I went today and had a blast at plant night. Two hours was plenty of time and doesn't feel to long when your talking with friends and doing the activity. The plants were a bit large for my glass bowl, so I went to micheals and got a larger bowl (picture posted). I also got some cute decorations (a gnome, mushrooms and frogs, along with a few other floral things) to make it my own. I only give it four stars instead of 5 bc the plants were to big for the bowl and decorating in the original bowl was tuff, but I had fun overall. Not sure I would do it again, in part bc I don't need more then one plant terrarium to take care of, but I would recommend it to others, especially during the long winter months. Also, groupon gave us a really good deal.

My dear friend invited me to an event given by plantnite where we planted succulents in a terrarium hanging glass globe. Plantnite is a spinoff of paint nights where you and your friends gather at an art studio where you sip wine and are guided in painting a work of art. In this case, however, the events are at popular bars around town. Basically, you hang out while getting your hands dirty and at the same time glean a wealth of knowledge so the plants will thrive once you bring them home, to work or give them as a gift. All the tables were set with a cheery light green color which matched the pretty aprons we wore to protect our clothes. They brought succulents, glass globes, soil, decorative rocks and other supplies to make your project look appealing. Our hostess, Sarah, was lots of fun and was a perfect blend of instruction and entertainment. We took breaks to play games like trivia. If you won, you got little prizes to adorn your terrarium with. Also, they can do both private and corporate events. I'm thrilled with how my terrarium globe turned out and will think of the fun time I had with my friend when I look at it. One thing is that there is not a physical business address. You can access them by going to their website, type in your city and they can tell you what classes are offered during the month you are interested in. Besides a terrarium in a glass globe, you can do them in double wooden drawers, in a sloped bowl with sand art, in a distressed wood 7 inch square, poly slate rectangle, round birch planter, etc. Look on their site for all the options.

I attended plant night a few months ago with two of my friends. We had purchased Groupons, which is the only reason this isn't one star, if we had paid full price it would have clearly not been worth it. While the concept is fun, the quality of the plants is just plain poor. I'm not exactly a green thumb, but my friend is and both of our plants are now dead. The Plantnite we went to was for succulents, which they told us repeatedly were virtually impossible to kill, since ours are dead, I can only assume they gave us poor plants to start with. Needless to say, we won't be rushing back to a Plantnight anytime soon.

A couple friends and I purchased Groupons for this event. I'm glad we didn't pay full price. I felt what they dragged out for two hours could have been accomplished in less than 30 min. It certainly was not as fun or interesting as paint nights are. Take a glass bowl fill it with dirt, add a little sand/rock, then take the three succulents they allow and put them in the dirt, done! They tried hard to make it fun but it all fell flat. Playing group games as if you're at a bridal shower is not the way to go. After a while I felt like they were just trying to get us to stay longer so we would purchase more drinks from the restaurant that was hosting the event. As much as I loved the idea of it, it just wasn't something I'd do again.
