Great supermarket. Impressive beer selection. Limited bakery and limited meat counter. Limited deli but hits on the essentials in a strong fashion.

Ok.. McMaken's is an institution in Brookville... It's the only grocery.... and it's been there a long time. I went to school with one of the daughters and knew all of the kids... but that was a while ago and it doesn't influence my review. They do really well for an independant IGA store. They are large and carry a wide variety of items. They will order anything for you. Tom has been in the meat dept as long as I can remember. My dad always sought him out and I still do. Need a special cut... Tom will do it. Need fresh oysters... Tom will do it. Just want to say hi to a friendly face.... Tom will do it. You don't get service like this just anywhere. The downfall? Prices. It's well worth the short drive to Wal-Mart or Meijers to get better prices on every item. McMaken's probably has to pay more than these huge chains so the difference is understandable but in the current recession it's regrettable.

This is a great community grocery store! Except for a very opinionated 1-star review by someone who isn't from the area and doesn't actually say they visited the store, most folks see the value of a hometown grocer. The meat and deli departments are outstanding, and my purchases here are normally even cheaper than they are at places like Wal-Mart. The produce is nice and often less expensive than other grocers. While not everything is cheaper every day, good shoppers always look for sale items. Their dairy section is super, and while milk purchased other places often lasts until the sell-by date, my purchases here will last a week beyond that. Very nice folks; good selection; and they've even added organic produce for those who require it. They even offer a Golden Buckeye discount to seniors on Tuesdays and Thursday for an additional 5% off. Can't beat the place! I highly recommend it and I've shopped there weekly for the last 7 years.

If you live in the area, the meat department can't be beat. They win hands-down over any of the cheaper stores (Wal-mart, Kroger, Meijers). Years ago, I'd recommend the Village Butcher Shop, but that's long since gone. Now all the meat that's fit to eat in Brookville is at McMaken's. Prices might be a little higher here than at Wal-mart, but the customer service is a million times better than you'll get at a big chain. The store has been around for ages, but is always clean and well-lit, and the bag-boys will even help you out with your groceries if you need assistance.

I have more than once recommended the meat at McMaken's. I find their quality and prices better than any at Walmart or Kroger's even with the lower gas prices. The people that work there are always friendly and helpful. I'm glad we have them in Brookville.

Small local grocer in Brookville. Pro's - Huge selection of fresh veggies and fruit, especially for an IGALarge selection of groceries at different price points and brandsService is excellent, no way will you find this kind of service in the big box storesLiquor store on siteLarge Beer selectionThey will take requests for your favorite itemsQuick in-and- out serviceCon's - Hot food carryout is below averageWine selection seems either cheap, or higher mid-end'Non-existent local grown foodsButcher is not the best All in all, I visit this IGA about 5x to 1x visit to the big box grocer. It is more $ than the other choice, but the employees and the patrons are much nicer, cleaner, and friendly. The cost does not seem to be a huge factor, as long as you are a smart shopper.I would rate this store 5 stars only if they set up a local section for honey, produce, and meat. I think this is lacking in this stores environment, surrounded by farmers. If this store provided a local farm market atmosphere, I think they would get allot more attention, but otherwise it is a great place to shop.
