Lobsta Bakes of Maine

I saw a Facebook event for a fish fry. I saved it for Friday. My aunt and myself decided to head down to Newtown for a non-religious affialiated fish fry. They were donating 10% to Turpin, so we could support a great cause. It was cold and rainy and PACKED! Going through the line, ordering, and waiting for our order took about 30 minutes in total. There were so many people and nowhere to sit so we headed home to eat. The piece of fish, steak fries, tartar sauce, and 1 lemon wedge was $16. I grabbed a pair of crab cakes out of the case for $15 and a cup of remolaude for $1.We got home and opened up our newspaper looking paper boxes. There was one large piece of deep fried code, a decent amount of thick steak fries, a large cup of tartar sauce, and one lemon wedge. It doesn't sound like a lot of food but it is. I could not finish it all. It was quite good. I'm sure we will be back sometime.

We picked up some shrimp burgers and asked the person waiting on us if the fish was wild caught or farm raised. We were informed the fish is primarily farm raised. I typically do not purchase farm raised fish anywhere nor do I eat farm raised fish. I did reach out and contacted the company to double check on how the seafood is obtained. I was informed that the sea food that is farm raised is only obtained through ethical and sustainable means. That made me feel better. They do sale a few pies and bread in addition to their seafood. The place is small and cute. The staff is friendly.

I live in Cincinnati. I love salmon sashimi. My bank account does not love salmon sashimi. We constantly have arguments on who should be right in this situation. After many tense years of sushi-induced overdraft fees, Lobsta Bakes came to the rescue and saved our marriage.I was driving through Newtown, determined to get wings, when I remembered reading about Lobsta Bakes on Yelp. They're known for their namesake lobster roll kits, but I thought to stop by to see if they also sold sushi-grade sashimi. I was greeted by a small but well-kept seafood selection and an extremely knowledgeable salesperson/fish monger. I simply wanted sushi-grade salmon and was ready to be disappointed. I've tried many places and the only store that seemed to ever had the salmon I wanted was Luken's. Luken's doesn't even offer it everyday so if I want to buy some salmon I had to get lucky. Lo and behold, Lobsta Bakes has sashimi salmon - Every. Damn. Day. I assume my excitement was obvious because the gentleman assisting me also went into all the other sashimi grade fish they offer. I happily took a pound of salmon and went on my way.I never ended up getting wings, but I got something way better - a seafood store in the middle of Porkapolis that sells my favorite food for an inexpensive price. My wallet and I are very thankful for you, Lobsta Bakes.

Fresh seafood in the Midwest? Yes please! I was so excited to finally try out Lobsta Bakes! The owner is from Maine, so he knows real seafood! This is basically your seafood equivalent of a local deli. Their selection varies, especially based on season, so your best bet is to sign up for their email list which goes out weekly with what they have available. You may also call to inquire, as the staff is super helpful. They are currently offering phone order and front porch pickup for safe social distancing. They have fresh fish, prepared foods, and receive deliveries of sixteen bricks bread. I placed an order for several items, and had the option to pay by phone, but wanted to see what bread they got in that afternoon when I arrived for pickup. Upon arrival they had a nice setup on their porch with menu boards, as well as the just delivered bread. If you havent paid ahead they will take your credit card inside to run for you. I picked up the Maine Blueberry pie, which is the best blueberry pie I have EVER had. It was packed full of tender Maine Blueberries, the crust was to die for, it wasn't sicky sweet, and the crumb topping was just the perfect way to finish it off. Next I chose one of their weekly specials, Lobsta Quiche. Another winner here for best quiche! The chunks of lobster were plentiful, fresh, and tender. The flavor of the cheese and quiche itself was divine. Finally I ordered some crab cakes. They come ready to cook with easy instructions. While they aren't super big, they are very rich and dense with quality crab meat. I was very pleased. I also chose some sourdough and foccacia bread from sixteen bricks. I cannot wait to come back when the lobster rolls are in a season, and to see what other great prepared items they have. I might need A LOT more of that pie too!

Kevin and his crew have come through for us time and time again. We held a 100+ person bake back in 2018 and sadly haven't been able to do so since. We also organized a bake in 2019 at our local watering hole. They are professional, efficient, and super nice people (everyone from maine is nice). I would highly recommend giving them some love during this odd time...you deserve a lobster dangit.

They have the best crab dip around. I always order a couple for holiday parties and they're a big hit. I also just tried their take-n-bake seafood stuffing and it was incredible. I can't wait to go back in a few weeks.

PHENOMENAL lobster roll, cottage pie, and fish and chips. All amazing! And truly amazing folks working, too, it was a big surprise as I was brought along and didn't plan the trip. If you can get a reservation, it's worth more than gold of high quality and well made seafood. I look forward to seeing if they get a chance to expand in the summer, and hopefully get a chance to get more folks in the door to enjoy the food too.

This place is fantastic! We ordered hot lobsters for my mom's birthday and they did not disappoint. They were being pulled out of the steamer as I arrived. Friendly staff too!

My husband waited an hour for four dinners of fish and chips. We live 5 minutes away. Our fish was not crispy, but soggy. The fries were not cooked all the way . We paid $75 with tax and tip. We saw that you could call ahead to order but that was not the case. We love to support local but do not like to waste money on under cooked food.

Outstanding fish market! Everything we've tried has been delicious. The new owners are great! Excellent fish, seafood and in house made pies, sauces, coleslaw, pasta, crab cakes, dips/spreads, smoked salmon & trout. They even offer wine and beer to save you a trip to the store. Friday nights they serve hand battered authentic British recipe fish & chips. Top it off with their blueberry pie!
