Lee's Famous Recipe Chicken - Springfield South

If ya know ya know: I'm country so I'm a fan of livers and gizzards. For a couple of years they took em off the menu. Nevertheless they are back yet for a higher price. Of all the parts of a chicken the livers and gizzards are the most disposable and CHEAPEST yet they charge a premium for them and they give you LESS food. A large is like a 1/3 of what it used to be. I don't know what the excuse is for this change? Inflation? Covid? Corporate Greed? Who knows? Times certainly have changed. On the other hand Lees cooking technique of their livers and gizzards are UNMATCHED because they pressure cook them which makes them buttery, tender, and melt in your mouth. Decades ago Springfield and Dayton area KFC's used to do them that way but removed them from all their locations and menus. Outside of this everything else there was PERFECT. Chicken and biscuits were piping hot and fresh. Potato Wedges are breaded, seasoned, and fried to perfection. Courteous staff and speedy service. If ya know ya know that LEES IS THE PLACE for that home style taste and flavors that don't seem mass produced out a factory or from Gordon Food Services like OTHER major chains.

OK, this review is for the Buffalo Chicken. I can't comment on the other food. Basically, this was "a hot mess", and not in a good way. The chicken was drowned in sauce, which made it both difficult to eat and gave it a gelatinous texture. The sauce was not all that good either. I literally couldn't eat it all. I was hoping for something spicy like a Hatties Hot Chicken or even a Popeyes, which is why the counter person recommended the Buffalo Chicken. If I go back, I think I'll just add my own hot sauce to their classic chicken.The coleslaw was fine. The biscuit delicious. The counter guy was friendly and pleasant. I guess I should have stuck to something more classic.

There are a few things to consider. I really like my Tenders hot I will usually ask for them to be hot. The apple pies the same. When I get my order, they are Luke warm and back I go to complain. They do make things right its the wait that gets me upset. Plus, there are tenders seem to be getting smaller & smaller. Pot pies are always hot and really good. I will still be going because they are still better than KFC.

What your looking at here is some pretty freaking amazing fried chicken!!! This was our first time in Springfield Ohio and our first (but not last) visit to Lee's.We just happened upon this hidden gem and decided to give it a try! Folks, it tastes as good as it looks! Five star fried chicken experience. Lee's is fantastic. Was looking for a place off of the 70 and Lee's was perfect. Great chicken, great sides. Highly recommend.

When you are craving fried chicken late in the evening and cruising old 70 near Springfield Ohio give lee's a try. The cheapest chicken joint East of the Mississippi. Nothing fancy that's for sure! But the biscuits are warm and tender' the chicken crispy and the gizzards and liver well seasoned. For eleven dollars and change for two you can't go wrong. In and out in a heart beat and back on the road. Give it try....bathrooms are clean and the staff are pleasant...what do you have to lose?

I will only give this store one star . To start with I was just in there Wednesday 12/7 I ordered a 3 piece dinner two thighs one leg I was in a hurry so i didn't shock it got home and had 3 wings and they were so hard from being overcooked that I couldn't eat them on top of that I asked for potato wedges and got mash potatoes instead . This isn't the 1st this has happened I live about 5 minutes from the store and usually will not go there because it's almost always wrong or you have to Waite for your order. And a lot of time if you go in at 7 or after and they don't have what you want they tell you they can't fix it . From now on no matter how much I am in a hurry I will just go to Popeyes .

I eat at Lee's Famous Recipie every year when I visit Springfield OH. There are 3 in town. I think the one on S Limestone is best. I found the employees would talk to me when I talked to them. My order was out quickly. My gizzards were the best I've had in a while. Even better than the Home Ave location. My coleslaw was almost as good as KFC. The one thing I didnt particularly care for was the menu item they called barbeque baked beans. Had they been called pork n beans, I'd have no problem. Nut in my opinion they were neither barbeque or baked. Unless you count the trace of barbeque sauce.. Maybe they did bake them a min or two. At any rate they were not what I expected. I now know one item NEVER to order again.. The gizzards were cooked to perfection. They were battered just right. They were as tender as a gizzard could be. NOT tough as they are in lots of places There gizzard and coleslaw portions were goodThere wasn't as generous portion on the beans. Over all a pleasant dinning experience I'd reccomend them to anyone that appreciates good gizzards.

I picked up a 12 piece family meal spent $35 when I got home back in Columbus I noticed that 6 of the pieces of chicken were wings !Horrible value !

Forget the other, more known chicken joints, this is the spot for chicken. Hearty chicken, wedges that taste like real potatoes, an excellent spread of sauces... Lee's is a regular in my life & has been for years. While a little more expensive than their competitors, the quality is there & will make you feel better about it. Not to mention, I was able to successfully & satisfyingly work the Lee's menu into a Weight Watchers program a couple years ago.As for the S Lime location, it's south lime. It's a bit small for comfort, with an awkward parking lot & not the best looking area. The staff is usually pretty on the spot, quick & correct service. The few that have worked there for years are always friendly & greet you regularly. Upper management can sometimes be found on location & when they are they will greet you & seem genuinely interested in your satisfaction.
