This not only the biggest grocery store in this area, other than convenience stores, it is the ONLY grocery store out there. Part of the Kroger chain.Small and functional and reasonably priced. Carrying hot food for lunch and dinner and seasonal goodies and plants. Also has Skyline chili in the can. Yay!The store is old but clean and the staff is very nice.Definitely a good place to stop if you are camping or staying in the area.

Ian is always so sweet to my toddler. He plays with while we r t the register. Amy goes above and beyond to get my son his milk, and Amanda is an amazing employee who makes us always feel so welcomed and comfortable. I love my towns JC store. I just wish the company met employees needs so we can keep the ppl that we like and get to know. I don't mean this on a bad way but I don't want to keep seeing new ppl who don't know us in our small town

I was reminded of why I only come to this dump once or twice a year after I thought I would just stop in for a few things. Do not go here to shop, it really is for when you just need an item or two. Go five miles south to Versailles, ten miles east to Milan or eleven miles north to Batesville if you really have to shop. First, all of the prices are jacked up because they know they have a captive audience, which is largely food stamp recipients that can't get out of town. Second, the selection is poor, especially on fresh meats and produce. $3.50 for a bag of onions that is always $1.99 at Kroger or Walmart. $4 a pound for ground beef that you can find elsewhere for $1.99 a pound. Other meat cuts are grey, and still twice as high as Versailles IGA. The Deli's motto is "We'll serve you if it suits us." There are no guarantees of availability or selection like they have in other Kroger stores. The staff is just about the worst part. Customer service will refuse to ring you up if you have one or two items. They'll watch you stand in a long line behind a food stamp purchaser with a heaped cart, with five kids all trying to distract the mother by whining for candy and sugary drinks, while she tries to argue over the sales ad with the apathetic clerk. A bagger will stare absently and idle, rather than opening another register. No one in that store wants to work. It really shows in the long wait lines, the general dirtiness of the store and their inability to render prompt service.

No challenge to meet weekly budget at this store. You can pretty much assume that they won't have all you regular items in stock regularly. Chicken breasts, frozen pizza, last week was eggs and cheese. Have not purchased deli meat in over a year- generally because no one is at counter or too busy making fried chicken...Walmart is 25 minutes north, or cash saver is 10 minutes south- both with a big variety of in stock fresh foods. I'm gonna start passing on this spot! Would not let me submit with 0 stars.

I am sick of this store. The prices are high, the stock is old, or it's out of stock. They claim to have a meat cutter, but the meat is 2x as high and the selection horrible compared to other Kroger chains. Better store in Milan, but not by much. The Jay C in North Vernon sets an example this horrible branch should strive to meet. They won't accept returns for soured milk unless you have a receipt even when the date isn't reached, but who keeps a receipt for milk? A quick call to corporate gets you your refund in spite of their accusations.Customer service is non-existent. They're rude, unhelpful and sulky. They will pass by running a mop under your feet, desperate to avoid eye contact lest you ask for assistance. You can be unloading a cartload of groceries and the cashier will refuse to budge until you stop, walk to her, and hand her your precious store card. She could full well scan your order and ask for your card when your hands are empty and are getting your money out to pay, but no! Inconvenience and lack of accommodation is the name of the game at the Jay C in Osgood. The baggers need a course on bagging. They bag chemicals with food, one cold item in every bag with dry goods, and all the canned goods together or all the heavy bottles together. This is in spite of my efforts to separate my order into logical bagging groups. They roll their eyes if you ask them to double bag.If you go to the customer service desk for lottery and are trying to buy a one or two regular items, they'll try their best to not ring you up even though they have a drawer and are fully capable. Lazy? You tell me. I have experience shopping here, but I try every week to not earn anymore than I have to.I try my best to avoid this store, as it is only a glorified convenience store with none of the convenience. I recommend the same to you.
