3.5 starsI got both the chicken cordon bleu & mac and cheese croquettes - the price made me think I'd need two orders to fill up. I was wrong though - you definitely could have filled up on just one order. I only ate about half of each. So definitely cheap, which is always a good thing!!The chicken cordon bleu ones had a great flavor, but they were lacking in any good texture. The mac and cheese ones were the opposite - great texture, but the flavor was just not there. But this place is an interesting concept, and I'm always here for fried balls of food, so would definitely try again. The chips were great and definitely the best part. I just wish they weren't served directly underneath the croquettes so I could have gotten to them easier and that they weren't covered in the sauce from the croquettes - I got their cheese sauce as well and would have just liked to dip them in that.If you go here, the cheese sauce is a must. I dipped my croquettes as well in the chips in them & it added just what I needed.Definitely worth the price & definitely will try again, but wasn't really the best

They had this food truck at the Oregon District Halloween party and it was amazing! I ordered the Turkey and my Friend ordered the Sweet potato pork. both were to die for and for only 7 bucks each they were a steal.

I'm torn here, because the staff was so friendly and the croquettes weren't necessarily that bad. Here's the thing... the food truck was available to us during lunch time. I expected a lunch portion amount of food for $6. I am, by no means, obnoxiously cheap. I just expected to be served a somewhat satisfying portion. I did ask the lady up front if one order was enough. She told me that they were indeed, and that one portion was usually enough for her. (I appreciate honesty and also that she didn't up-sell me.) I ended up ordering the salmon variety and the regular pretzel bites. I can't remember exactly what the salmon mixture claimed to be, but at the very least it was supposed to contain sushi rice. When I bit into this croquette, I experienced a textureless mix of cream cheese and fragments of salmon. I was very disappointed. I ate two and then gave the other ones away. I didn't want the chips at the bottom of the cup, either. I didn't think the two went well together, and again, it wasn't anything substantial for lunch anyway. The fried pretzel bits were good, but they would be impossible to mess up. The cheese sauce was undesirable... it tasted vaguely of cheese and more of butter. I feel bad about this strong dissatisfaction, because the staff was so nice. I may try the reuben variety in the far off future if I hear about this food truck again from friends. I may recommend this as an appetizer, if those turn out to be good. I just really don't understand how such a small portion of fried food is priced at $6, with 10-12 potato chips underneath. For the quality and portion, I would expect $4. $5, if they plated fries instead of cheap potato chips.

Horrible food. Extremely rude cashier. I found the cashier very rude. I noticed he was rude to other patrons also.

So I've read all of the reviews, both good and bad, and am surprised by the negative reviews. I've eaten at Hunger Paynes a few times, tried a variety of things and have never been disappointed. To the reviewer who said the Mac and cheese bites were bland and no salt was detected; yes, they are not as strongly flavored as the Rueben but it isn't supposed to be. Mac and cheese is creamy and warm and comforting while Rueben is bold, an explosion of flavor that catches your taste buds off guard. Onto the complaints about price. It's $6ish for a generous portion of croquettes and homemade (not "cheap") potato chips. The price is reasonable and comparable to other food trucks. The croquettes are always warm and gooey and flavor packed. Definitely not the same as traditional bar food. Oh yeah and they aren't very greasy but they are deep fried so you probably shouldn't expect it to be completely devoid of grease! Thanks for coming to Speedway!

If you offer online ordering which provides a pickup time, make sure the times are accurate. If it's going to be 30 minutes, great tell me 30 minutes. They even sent me a text at 5:57 saying my order was in progress. I got there at 6:08 and he hadn't even started it. He said it would be at least another 15 minutes. He wasn't sorry and I'm not going back.

Hunger Paynes is a unique experience. I had never eaten a croquette but quickly became a fan after trying Hunger Paynes. Mac and cheese, buffalo chicken and philly cheese steak are my faves. They are moist and packed with flavor. Although the croquettes are Hunger Paynes' calling card, the sliders and chicken wraps are an excellent option. The folks that work the truck are friendly and make you feel welcome. If you are looking for an excellent alternative, look up Hunger Paynes on Facebook and give them a shot.

Been eating at hunger pains at fairs and food truck gatherings for a number of years now and have yet to try an item on the menu I do not like! My kids love the Mac and cheese croquettes, and my son fancies the buffalo chicken as well. It is a very unique food truck and the taste backs it up as well. Yesterday I tried the Cuban croquettes for the first time and thought they were awesome! Keep it up guys! Also, the fellow taking orders is awesome, gave the kids stickers and despite the lines was friendly and cheerful throughout!

I got the Reuben croquettes, which were marked as award winning on the menu. There were very good. I received five croquettes with my order, along with home-made kettle cooked potato chips, all in an easy to carry Styrofoam cup. The small balls of goodness had the contents of a Reuben sandwich but inside a fried ball of goodness instead. $7 paid for these little pieces of heaven and a Mountain Dew.

The Reuban Croquettes are great, especially when you sub mustard for thousand island. I wasn't too much a fan of the Shepherd's pie ones, as I felt like they didn't have much seasoning to the mince. The Mac and Cheese ones are delicious. The pretzels bites I won't get again... there was something off about the cheese sauce, but that's probably personal preference more than anything. My only critism would be that 6 bucks for 4 croquettes seems a bit much, but I still pay it, because I do enjoy the reubans. I only wish they offered larger portions of 6, or sampler packs where I can try multiple ones out rather than just getting one type at a time.
