We took our castle loving dad for Father's Day. Neat to learn the history and try to fathom someone doing the majority of the building solo.We had a picnic in the garden.

We wanted something to do on a cold winter's day, so we drove 15 min to Loveland Castle. I'd visited previously, but never with my kids.Overall, the castle is pretty neat, yet also pretty small. My kids wanted to explore, but we were in and out in less than an hour. For $5/person, not worth it. Fortunately, the gate attendant only charged a single admission and let the kids go free. Super kind of him.All things considered, it's worth a trip if money is no object and/or you're really into castles. But, if you're on a budget, skip it. Not enough entertainment for the cost.

Inexpensive way to spend a couple of hours! My husband & I visited in late May and the weather was perfect. It hadn't gotten too hot yet so we could still go in and out of the castle without sweating. This was such a cute little place. We were in the area and needed a few hours to kill before checking into our Airbnb, when I found this man made castle for only $5/ per person I was stoked. Getting there: be warned you may lose service so download direction for getting there AND getting out. The road down is pretty steep so drive slow & keep a lookout for people leaving.Parking: it's a gravel lot, be sure not to accidentally park in any residents driveways!Bathrooms: it's porta potty's. They are in the direct sun so it can be extra stuffy. Overall: cute place to explore with kids or adults. Be warned there is some narrow/steep staircases that those with mobility issues may find difficult.

We loved the outdoor ambiance of the PNW wine tasting they hosted. We're new to the area and had no idea about the "castle" or the history so it was an interesting night out. To say this is a castle is a bit of stretch but it's an interesting place with curious artifacts. I hope they continue with the wine tasting nights!

If you are looking for something oddly fun to do and a little bit touristy, you have to check out the Loveland castle. When I bring people to Loveland and we go kayaking on the river, the Loveland castle is always brought up: it's a staple in our town! Crazy enough, on a beautiful Saturday, I went for a walk and ended up here. This is about 2 miles from my house and actually located behind a subdivision near the Loveland high school. You'll have to go down a long road that takes you towards the river. You will find the Loveland castle at the bottom of the hill adjacent to the river. You can drive, as they now have a very large parking lot to hold several cars or if you're a local like me, you can certainly walk. Better yet: if you're on the river, pull over your kayak and walk up the shore! I grew up hearing stories of this local legend. My parents met the man who built this castle in the 60s and 70s. He passed away in 1981 due to complications after a fire on his property. If you have ever walked the road going down to his property, you can understand why the garbage in town will not drive down his driveway each week. So, he did what anyone would do, and started burning his trash. One day, the wind picked up and the fire got out of control. He tried to stop it, getting third-degree burns all over his body.It is not every day that you get to walk the grounds of a castle... But what makes this castle incredibly cool is that it was built by hand! This man carried stones up from the Little Miami River to build his house. When he ran out of stones from the river, he used milk carton jugs to make his own square rocks. You can definitely see the difference once you're inside the castle. It cost five dollars to get in to walk the grounds of the castle (they do take credit cards). There were at least two men inside sharing information and giving tours about the man's life. There is also a movie inside to watch, as it captures the essence of what life was like building a castle in the 1930s to the 1970s. The whole experience is a little bit odd and certainly touristy, but you cannot beat five dollars for an entertaining afternoon right on the river. In fact, if anyone is in town visiting Loveland, I would say it's definitely something you want to add on your list. You can see the castle from the Little Miami River. If you are kayaking and take a tour with Loveland canoe and kayak, you will see the castle on mile four of the river out of your 5 mile trek. You can pull over your canoe and walk up the shore, so look for a place that is flat, and check it out: it is a perfect summer activity!

Unique experienceI had read about the castle for years and when in the area I decided to drive by and check it out. It was in the off-season so they are only open weekends. The castle is hidden in a residential neighborhood and then you follow a winding road to the river. There is a small parking lot. Entrance fee is $5. You can easily get a full tour in and hour. The tour is self guided but there is always someone available to ask questions. I highly recommend finding the hidden room downstairs that has 3 short documentaries about the castle and the guy that built it. It is really an interesting story especially when you see how he built the whole thing by hand over 50 years. Worth the visit when in the area!

I wanted to give this castle five stars but I felt it wasn't being kept up as well as it should be. The website talks it up way more than it actually is. Staff was friendly. I didn't mind the $5 fee. It was surprisingly busy so that led to some crowded small spaces. The videos at the beginning are important because there is no information inside the castle. It is still a fun small stop when in the area.

Saw this attraction online and we thought it looked interesting so we took the trip down. The work that went into building this is amazing. The man had an obsession and had the work ethic to make it happen. Grounds were nice but could have used quite a bit more plants and better upkeep. Castle was interesting to tour as well as the story of the man who built it. It was worth $5 to tour.
