I stepped into the wayback machine and went to "Hatting's Supermarket" near me in Western Hills. I tell you it was like 1985 in there. A family-run, crammed full supermarket. They cut their own meat and made their own deli selections. The aisles were about 1.3 grocery carts wide. It FEELS like a family grocery. Like a labor of love. It feels like a hometown grocery store in a small town. I loved it.

My favorite mom/pop market growing up remains my favorite as an adult. I love having this market just down the road. They have everything you need and it's easy to run in and run out. Whenever there is more than 1 person in line the cashier always makes a call for additional help. They open another cash register quickly, and I've never been delayed cashing out! Where else can you say that happens? Yes, you do pay a little higher prices on some items, but I'd rather pay the price to keep a small community business going than to a big corporate chain. Their deli is amazing! Everything from their party platters to their excellent stuffed pork chops to their peach cobbler is of excellent quality. They also sell a lot of local items front and center including Regina Bakery items and Fawn candy. I love to see small local businesses supporting each other!

At 7pm on Saturday night, I found out I was going to be having a gathering of Yelpers at my house at 8pm... (I am not kidding. Yelpers really are a like a cult.) I had plenty of drinks to get the party started, but nothing to soak them up. I needed munchies and fast!No time to drive the 10 minutes to Krogers and back. No time to navigate the huge store and long lines. So instead, I ran to my local grocery store, Hatting's, just 5 minutes away. This is what Hatting's is best for... When you need a quick run for a couple, non-specialty items. The store is a decent size and they have a surprisingly large selection, but if you are picky, you may not find exactly what you need. If you generally try to save money by buying generic brands like Private Selection, you will not find them here.Prices are a little higher than at a chain supermarket. On the other hand, if I was elderly or injured this store would be great because of its smaller size. It does offer a meat counter and deli. Produce selection is a little limited, but has all the usual suspects. The people that work here are always nice and willing to help out the crazy woman who is running in for caramel apple dip and pretzels and doesn't have the time to search every aisle for where they are.Looking to support a local business, try shopping at Hatting's

Excellent alternative to the lines at Kroger's. Full service grocery shopping including a deli/fresh meat counter. They may not have all the cheap brands of a bigger store, but there's a pretty good chance they'll have what you're looking for. I shop here when I need something quick or when I need beer or wine. They charge the same price as everyone else for alcohol, so why not help them out.

This place is a surprising gem. You expect something like a convenience store or at least a very limited grocery. It's a full grocery store with a butcher and deli and a nice selection of everything you would find at Kroger or Meijer, not all the brands but definitely higher end ones at reasonable (albeit slightly higher) prices. Family run and very friendly service.
