A Flightless Conchord after reheating. It tastes even better than it looks.

Made a stop here at 1pm on a Saturday only to find that they almost ran out of pies! They only had 4-5 of their flightless concord available on the display case. They mentioned they had a few more pies coming, but it would be a 12 minute wait. I really wanted to try the kiwi classic but didnt want to wait 12 minutes to snag their last one for the day. Guess I have to come much earlier next time. I ended up trying their flightless concord and it was hot and delicious! Reminded me of chicken pot pie. The creamy gravy along with the meaty chicken and mushrooms were perfectly enveloped in a buttery and rich pie crust.

So sorry, I'm in the minority here. The Service was 5 star!! I visited their food truck at King's Island during the Food Truck Festival. I want to say that the workers were extremely kind and paid extra attention to detail while serving me. They went out of their way to make sure that the money person that served my food steered clear of the cash. I can appreciate that. The Food... Not so muchI ordered the chicken, mushroom, and cheese pie. It was mediocre at best.... like a bland pot pie filled with canned chicken and canned mushrooms. The crust was decent, but that's all.Wish I would have liked it. Great service, bland food.

CMP is clearly one of the best new fast casual restaurants in Dayton. The Pies are awesome. I've tried them all but the vegetarian, and they are all excellent. My personal favorites are the Favorite Mate, Kiwi Classic, and the Flightless Concord. They use fresh and local food to make their fillings, which is packed full of yummy tender meats. The pastry is also flaky and buttery, but not too greasy. I eat there often and can say I've never had a bad pie. Their price point is $5 per pie, which at a glance may seem expensive but when compared to fast food burgers around the same price, you get way more meat, and a better quality meal. They also have a stamp rewards card, and who doesn't love free meat pies?Their chili is also quite excellent, which you can get as an entree or as a side dish. They do also have a pretty yummy cole slaw, and sweet potato fries (which I'm not a fan of sweet potatoes, but friends seem to love). Also, make sure to try their aioli sauce. Its like a mayo with garlic and lemon juice, and tastes omnom on all their pies. They've been in business a year and I will definitely be doing my part to make sure they stick around a lot longer.

And I thought meat pies were for old people!!! OVERALL: Let's start this off with a summary... fantastic little New Zealand Meat Pie Stand in the 2nd Street Market in Dayton, Oh. This bloke, Aussie, I mean Kiwi... has definitely brought a hometown favorite to Dayton. The pies are delicious and earned my coveted 4.5 star rating (the other .5 is here and not in the rating), meaning GO GET ONE! While, I have tasted some meat pies in London that were bigger and a bit tastier, but these are reaching the 5 star category. FOOD: Read above. I have tried 4 of their meat pies and each one has a unique blends of spices that bring out a flavor unknown to all in Dayton... (a little humor) . I would have gave a 5 star rating but the pasta salad brought it down... yes, I know a side bringing it down, but I believe to be a 5 you need to have the whole dish be a 5! SERVICE: Awesome! Need I say more. Friendly, courteous, should be a role model for some of the other food vendors... ;-)

I stopped by on a Friday afternoon to pick up a couple of frozen pies to take home and enjoy over the weekend. The frozen pies reheat very well in the oven or toaster oven. The microwave is not an option. I got a "Flightless Conchord" (chicken and mushrooms in a cream sauce with cheddar cheese) and a "Favorite Mate" (beef and mushrooms in an onion gravy). The crusts are nice and flaky, even after being frozen, and they taste great. The only downside is that they aren't open every day.

Cheeky Meat Pies is excellent. The pies are hot (prompting them to put an "Always blow on the pie" sticker on them!) and delicious. My favorites are the Kiwi classic, the turkey and cranberry pie, and the newest one, the Naughty Bird. The bacon breakfast pie is a good choice as well- it has a crispy potato topping rather than the pastry topping that the lunch pies have. They have a new food truck that is out and about, and they have expanded to selling pies at the cafe at Riverscape, so although their hours at 2nd Street Market are limited, there are other options. They don't update the website too often, but if you follow on facebook they are good about keeping that updated. I have also gotten frozen pies from them to bake at home and to take to friends who live in other cities.

If you are looking for a good mini pot pie then this is it! Everytime I'm at 2d Street Market I HAVE to have one! I've had all of them and they never disappoint! Meat, flaky crust, juicy and just pure deliciousness! You can share but I'd recommend DON'T! Make your friends and family members to get their own! If you aren't sure which one to get, the service personnel as super nice and will walk you through it but honestly you can't really go wrong with any of them!

First timer to this awesome little spot in an awesome public market. We had two pies, the Kiwi and daily special, both were amazing. The crust is tender, buttery and flaky and the fillings were out of this world delicious! They don't skimp on the huge chunks of tender beef. This place is definitely worth a visit. We will be back!
