Cafe Royal Coffee House

I've been visiting my Aunt that lives in New Castle quite often over the last 5-6 years. I'm not sure why but I never thought cafe royal had much to offer so I didn't try it. I'm not a coffee house kind guy and I thought the sandwiches and breakfast in particular might be lacking. I couldn't have been more wrong. Three of us finally went there recently and between us tried the grilled cheese, turkey sandwich and a breakfast bagel sandwich. The standout was the turkey sandwich and now we can't wait for our next visit. Definitely coming back for lunch sandwiches. The bacon and egg breakfast bagel was good but the egg is a little odd. Like maybe a premade egg patty the just gets heated up?? Reminded me of a subway breakfast sandwich. All of the bread and bagel seemed fresh like they bake it or have it baked for them. They have Cookies, muffins, croissants and probably more that I'm forgetting. We got some cookies to go and have on the plane ride home. They were delicious, just like homemade. The dining room was much bigger than I thought it would be. Would be nice even for larger groups to meet up. Drive thru window as well.

I love being able to support a local business for my coffee fixes! As I prefer cold coffee, I usually order one of their frappes or a cold brew. I live the selection they have of sugar free syrups. Most places only have vanilla and maybe a chocolate/mocha. Cafe Royal has 6 different options! I will occasionally order my lunch from Door Dash, and my go to is their Ham and Cheese Panini. The bread is always perfectly golden!

They have so much more than coffee. The pastry case is filled with muffins and assorted baked good for a healthy choice or a sweet tooth. We opted for a chicken salad plate and a salad to share. The seating areas were interesting and plenty to choose from with either tables or comfortable chairs. The atmosphere is really quiet and there is plenty of room for groups or if you want to be left alone in solitude.Not too far off of interstate 70, totally worth the drive

Under new ownership and that has really improved the customer service at Cafe Royal! I've been there a handful of times since, for meetings and lunch and have been greeted. They even sell their local beans too now! Making some improvements here and there - a work station area, new hours, open longer, and events. Lunches are great, I love the paninis and sides. Under $10 for lunches and there are a lot of options. The menu appears to be the same. Alternative milk options are available for drinks.

They are moving to a 5 star coffee house. Under the old management and ownership, my rating was low. That's another story for another time. The new owner, Carl, has already changed the "vibe" of the place. As I was walking through the door, someone welcomed me! Wow! The staff were very cordial and conversational. It was very nice. The coffee is most likely from the same roasters as the coffee was about the same as it was before. I had a latte ~ my go to test for coffee shops (good black coffee is difficult to mess up for coffee shops.) Overall, the coffee experience is a 5. Good stuff. As Carl and the team progress with this coffee house, I expect this rating will be a 5 from me ~ the JavaMan. The Big Picture was ... this experience was 100% better than last time. I'll be back and I would recommend this coffee house.

I went to use the restroom and realized there was no toilet paper so I checked the cabinet and found what looks to be cockroaches or bugs of some sort. They're literally crumbling apart meaning they've been left there for who knows how long already. I let management know and it's been a week and they are STILL in the cabinet. Disgusting and unprofessional.

We enjoyed our sandwiches. I ate my zantorian sandwich before realizing I should take a picture. It was different with red onion rather than the usual white onion on a beef and horseradish sandwich. My dad enjoyed the mac and cheese, and it was good but simple and nothing unique. I liked the potato salad but nothing extra special. The cream soda was delicious once mixed up and I would try other flavors for sure. We didn't have ice cream but I saw they sell Sundae's ice cream and it's amazing stuff we eat often in Indianapolis. Graham central station is a safe choice!

Went to Cafe Royale for the first (and last) time today. The only thing that I thought would appeal to me was a tuna sandwich. When I got it it was the worst tuna sandwich I have ever had. There was something in it that I didn't recognize and I took it to the counter to tell them I couldn't eat it and I asked what was in it. The lady told me it was craisins. I have NEVER heard of putting craisins in tuna. She asked if I wanted anything else and I told her honestly that nothing else looked appetizing. She acted like she didn't want to refund my money and was very rude and said if I came back it wasn't guareenteed they would do that the next time. My husband said not to worry, because we wouldn't be back again. She then said that she couldn't believe how I was acting. All I had said was that I couldn't eat the sandwich. I would not recommend this place to anyone.Cyndi L.

Great food, great people, great service!We came to New Castle from Chicago to see the eclipse. We didn't have a solid plan for where to view the eclipse but we read the reviews for Cafe Royal and thought we'd stop here and pick up sandwiches, then we'd find a spot to look skyward. Well, these folks knew their neighbors were charging $$ to park and they opened up their parking lot and set up tables and chairs for us, and generally made us feel so welcome. Thank you Carl and crew for making an amazing event even more special. And...The sandwiches were DELICIOUS!

Great club wrap and fantastic service!!! Would recommend this restaurant to everyone!!
