Gary was very kind, funny and taught us some about Lebanese culture. It was busy on Saturday night, but Gary made us feel like we were the only ones there! My boyfriend and his family have been coming to the Phoenician for over 10 years - the quality and consistency is superb. They have been so quick with the food recently! If you want to be in and out, you can. But if you want to take your time and enjoy the ambiance, it's possible too. When you make your reservation, ask for Gary and tell him you saw the review on yelp!My star rating:5 - must go!!! 4 - liked it, give it a try!3 - it was alright2 - I probably won't go back 1 - turnaround and run"

Nathan L. "Came in for dinner on a Friday night. All of the food was excellent - we had the day's hummus, bouillabaisse, and broccoli, along with a couple of cocktails. The bouillabaisse is my absolute favorite, and it was a hit with both of us. Very tasty, a little spicy, and good enough you'll want to lick the bowl. The restaurant was busy and filling up, but pleasant, with enough room at our table, and we were able to have our conversation. The service was brisk, but polite, and our questions about wine pairing was answered with some hesitation, but with a satisfying result. One star has to come off because this restaurant has begun charging a fee for using a credit card. This is a vulgar practice that has no place in high-end dining."

Josh W. "I'd been quite curious about this little spot for a bit but never got the chance to try it... Until recently when I convinced the boss to check it out with me for lunch. Definitely glad I did because we both really enjoyed it. For lunch, it was a little pricey, but you absolutely got what you paid for.We went on a Thursday for lunch. It wasn't too busy but they did have some carryout business going on. The place itself seems tiny from the outside, but they do have a good amount of indoor and outdoor seating. Their menu has a lot of unique options ranging from gyros, kebabs, sautéed dishes, soups, salads, and tasty shareables. We started out with some pita bread and kisir. It had a very unique taste that neither of us could stop eating. As for our main entrees, he got a gyro with a side of lentil soup, and I opted for the sautéed lamb special. Right after we ordered, their head chef came out to meet us, and offered a special lamb leg that she'd just finished cooking instead of their usual dish. I'm always up for trying new things so I said sure. She was very friendly and inviting. We hardly waited long at all before everything was ready. My boss's gyro was HUGE and loaded with meat. My lamb was phenomenal and the meat was so tender that it fell right off the bone. My dish was so big that I could only finish about half, but I'm definitely a meal prepper, so I saved the rest for lunch just yesterday (it held up amazingly well). After we finished what we could, their chef came out and offered us some Turkish tea and talked to us about the tradition of serving tea after a meal. She said it gives people a reason to stay and talk more and create lasting bonds of friendship. The tea itself was very tasty too.I really enjoyed everything about this spot. I could absolutely see going here again, but of course, with my babe instead of my boss."

Service was good and the wait time was reasonable. We enjoyed the pita bread with dipping oil. The bread was soft and delicious. Our entrées were served fresh and hot. My son ordered a salad with meat. It was huge with lots of meat. I ordered sultan's delight. The eggplant puree was rich and creamy and the tomato sauce was nicely spiced with chunks of meat and peppers. Hubby was the only one who was mildly disappointed. He ordered kabobs. The meat was very tough, had to be cut with a steak knife. Seems strange, as the kabobs were made of ground meat. Maybe overmixed or overcooked? He maybe should have said something but didn't, so I did not let that affect my rating. About $75 check for 3 entrees, 2 hot teas, no other beverages or extras. We would be happy to dine here again, especially as a date night or special event."

I thought since this was my first time here, the mixed grilled kebabs would give me a sample of the main ingredients on their menu. Everything tasted so good! The meat was seasoned and cooked well, the rice was delicious, and the hummus and pita bread tasted so well together. I started dipping my kabbabs into the hummus and couldn't stop until all of the kabbabs were gone. The three gentlemen in the kitchen were very nice and helpful with giving recommendations on their menu. For my entree, I had the shrimp sauté, it was out of this world. I would have licked the bowl if I thought I could. The owner stopped by our table several times and was super friendly. The only thing that docked them a star, the server was a little rough delivering the food and drink. I always thought it was a bit strange being a cafe underneath a giant old factory that I guess is now apartments? Anyway I never really paid much attention to it but we finally decided to go. They have a good amount of space once you get around the entrance wall and they use it well! Service was very nice and you could tell this was a place where the same people have worked at for quite a long time. I feel like their menu selection was very eclectic as well as appealing to what most people might want. I had the cavatappi with the vodka sauce and I added Italian sausage to it. My friend had their catfish. My cavatappi was amazing! With the vodka sauce as well as the slices of mozzarella cheese on top and sliced asparagus, it was just amazing and full of flavor and you really got a big portion of it. I almost couldn't eat the whole thing! Make sure to ask for a side of bread which does not cost extra to sop up more of that sauce. My friend had the catfish which was on top of one of their fried butter ball and sauce. Butter ball is probably the wrong word. But it was some sort of fried thing that the catfish was sitting on top of and he said it was excellent. Definitely want to return here and try some more of their amazing dishes!"

There are seats to have your food, but it's not a dining experience in any way. I came in with friends and got the Falafel sandwich. My friends got Chicken shawarma. Being essentially fast food, the wrap was ready immediately. None of us were shy and got it spicy. And oh my God - so good! They didn't skimp on the falafels or tahini. It was a good wrap. My friend asked for garlic sauce and they just gave us some. For $8, this was a good meal! For drinks, they do have most soda and juice options up for purchase. I also spotted packaged cookies and baklavas in case anyone wanted to buy them. Parking is limited to on street parking and I've never not found parking there. Bailey B. "We stopped here for dinner on a long, long, long drive north to the Detroit area. I really wanted to get a small taste of local flavor instead of just eating fast food, and Olive was more or less on our way, so we hopped off the interstate to grab a bite. Now, from some of the pictures of the outside on Yelp, it looks like this is a standalone business with a private parking lot. That might have been the case at one time, but either the business moved or it has a second location that's freestanding and the pics are in the wrong spot, as that's not the case now. This Olive is very much in the downtown-ish area, carved into the ground floor of a much larger building. As such, parking may be a bit more challenging since there doesn't appear to be a private lot. That said, we had no trouble finding a spot on the street within a block or two. Parking was paid for with the Passport app, and it was reasonable. Of course, it might be harder during nicer weather -- not a lot of people out on a rainy evening! We walked in to find the restaurant fairly spacious but almost deserted -- only two other people waiting for to-go orders. Kind of odd for a Friday night, but again...weather. The decorations are kind of sparse but the place, including the bathroom, was clean. We ordered our meal at the counter and sat down to wait. Husband got a gyro and fries, and I got the Shish tawook platter, which came with grilled chicken, a salad, rice, and pita. We also got an order of the Greek potatoes to try out as an appetizer. Service was a little gruff at checkout but gave us a genuine, kind-hearted thank you as we left, so I guess they just had to warm up to us, lol. The potatoes came out first and were my favorite part of the meal! They were clearly cooked fresh. I'm honestly not sure what's Greek about them as they kinda reminded me of hash browns (the cubed, hash kind) with a little squeeze of lemon and maybe some herbs on top...but if it ain't broke, don't fix it! They were piping hot and very crispy. Husband and I enjoyed our meals, too. His gyro was very large and almost over-stuffed with gyro meat. The fries were medium-cut but tasted like McDonald's fries somehow...not complaining. My Shish tawook was very juicy and flavorful. I've had better rice and pita but these were both quite serviceable and I enjoyed a fairly healthy-feeling meal.Honestly, my true rating is maybe more in-line with a 3.5...but I don't have any super severe criticisms and we had a quite pleasant time overall, so I'll just round up to a 4.Seems like they do a lot of carryout / delivery business. I'd recommend this spot for a decently healthy, very fresh Mediterranean bite if you're in the area."

My falafel sandwich was pretty decent--and it was only $6. These people are severely undercharging! The fries I ordered were super hot, crispy, and salty. They were everything. Food came out quickly, and you can easily get your food to go (we saw lots of take out orders getting picked up).Note: It is not air conditioned in there, so if it is a hot day you are going to sweat something fierce. Meanwhile, Birmingham-based Taziki's has the much more common "fast casual" concept well figured out. (This native Southerner knows that Birmingham's got a bigger Middle Eastern community than you'd probably imagine.)There's no getting around it: Cincinnati has a serious shortage of relatively nutritious, reasonably priced, decent dining options. On those scores, Taziki's rings it up pretty good. The wife and I love Middle Eastern and Mediterranean food, and Taziki does a nice job with a generic Americanized version of it. Fresh salads, nice thick lemony hummus, pretty okay grilled meats, solid pita sandwiches. Not only tasty, but mostly pretty healthy eating as well. If you're familiar with these cuisines, it's not nearly the best you've had (and the limited sides are quite disappointing) but it's not at all bad, either.Service when we do go (usually lunch on weekends) has always been very fast. The staff is efficient and pleasant. Atmosphere and music are kinda bland, but it's agreeable enough, and the dining area seems spic-and-span. Scott N. "What an experience! I will say I was nervous about their cancelation policy that includes a $20 charge per person if reservations are canceled less than 24 hours before the reservation. We had reservations for six, with one canceling due to illness the day of. I called ahead to change the reservation, but was still worried there could be a charge. There wasn't.My reason for including all that information is this... after having dinner on a Saturday (we were there at 4:30 when they opened), it was clear they do a massive business and need every seat available. We had a plan to check in during the week with a reminder and confirmation everyone was still on for dinner. The restaurant is beautiful and comfortably upscale. Our server Brynn, was outstanding. She was very cordial and friendly, as well as being well versed with the menu. She also split our bill five ways, spreading the food across all five bills and divvying up the drinks appropriately. The food... where do I start? I'll start by saying there are things on the menu we did not order that I still want to try. Guess we'll have to go back. Darn! What we did order was well.. a lot! Everything was fantastic.I'd say we started with the Trio of Spreads, but that's only because it came out first. My favorite was the Taramasalata (cured cod roe), which had just a slight fish flavor (it's not off-putting in any way). When we go again I will just order this. The Tzatziki was lovely and the Tirokafteri (spicy feta) was indeed spicy. It was tasty, but I focused on it the least. The grilled pitas that come with the spreads are a bit like Olive Garden's endless breadsticks. This is a huge plus and was greatly appreciated.Next was the Ntakos. Brynn told us to let it sit and allow the rusk to absorb the liquid and flavors. It was beautiful and delicious. That said, I won't order this next time.Turmeric Roasted Cauliflower - Roasted cauliflower seasoned with spices and turmeric w/ creamy tahini sauce. It was not spicy and the sauce was delightfully light and wonderful. I recommend it!The Manitaria Confit, aka mushrooms, were out of this world. So freakin' tasty! Yep, you should get these. We will get them again. The Pantzaria (roasted beets served with garlic dip) was outstanding! I'd order it again and you should too.The Bouyiourdi (spicy baked feta with peppers, tomatoes and onions) was spicy. It was good, but not my favorite. If you like things on the spicy side, go for it! Best bite - Char Grilled Xtapodi - grilled octopus. I get grilled octopus whenever I can. Fillo's grilled octopus is about the best I've had. So tender, and the EVOO, vinegar, oregano and capers are the perfect accompaniment. If I was only getting one thing, this would be it.The Kotopoulo Souvlaki was amazing. The chicken was tender and flavorful. With tomatoes, onions, fries, pita and dipping sauce, this is easily a full meal. The Moussaka was perfect. It looked beautiful and it was full of flavor. They had two desserts - Baklava and Ravani. The baklava was amazing! Just half of one of the three small pieces would have been enough. Wonderfully sweet and bursting with baklava syrup. The Ravani, topped with quince, was good but probably the least favorite of all the bites that evening.I also had a Baklava Negroni. That said, I asked if they could make it a Negroski, which is a Negroni made with vodka rather than gin. They accommodated my request with aplomb and it was delicious. Oh... the thing that makes it special is baklava syrup. It's not that I could taste it specifically, but Negronis can be a bit bitter. The Baklava "Negroski" was beautifully smooth. It wasn't bitter. It also wasn't sweet. It was perfection.I can't wait to go back."

The bowl was great and I ended up bringing half home. Chicken wasn't dry. While in line, they offered us a falafel to try. It was very good. You can taste the herbs, which was a nice change from others I have tried. The hummus can be customized. We let the gentleman behind the counter customize it with chickpeas, parsley, almonds, garlic oil and hot sauce. The presentation was very thoughtful and you can tell he takes pride in the product. While we were eating, he came to check on us and brought a plate of Turkish salad, which we had never tried. Wow! So flavorful! Chunks of veggies with a kick of heat. After a bit, the waitress arrived and asked me what I wanted to drink. It's a small place with a few indoor and a few outdoor tables, plus 3 stools at the counter. Obviously, they can't handle large crowds in colder weather. They have a drive-thru.One difference I noticed when I entered was the lack of the smell of grease, compared to their location on Brookwood and Washington on the west side of Hamilton. Everything seemed clean at both stores, although it took them a bit of time to clean tables after people left.On the back of the menu, they have some combos, including the #1 combo with the gyros, fries, and drink I ordered for $8.99. Does that seem a scary price? The last place where I got such a combo was $5.99 and yes, the gyros was smaller with the price. Feta cheese is an additional $1.00. Adding a tip takes a bite out of that $15.00 you kept for a fancy meal. The food was good, and I was treated well. I can't say enough how that feels. I've been too many places where no one cares, so thanks to them, I felt better, even though they were otherwise occupied with restaurant business. I was kind of surprised to see the waitress carrying several heads of lettuce which were apparently delivered through the drive-thru window. In any case, it was a good experience, even if the price was a bit scary.
