Excellent food and I would easily come back here for my Mexican food fix. Came here on recommendation from a friend while visiting the area as I was told this fast casual Mexican restaurant is fairly authentic. The set up is such that you pick whether you want a the food in taco, bowl or burrito, pick your protein choice and then add ons. There are other plates available such as birria, which was very filling and delicious. Chips were freshly madeas was the guac. Loved it all. Everything is authentic, tasty and worth the money and time.

Came with my bf around 7:30pm. The interior is pretty small but thats because most people come in and out to grab a quick bite. We ordered the taco plate, a guero taco, and a horchata which came out to around 24 dollars before tip. The taco plate was alright, pretty yummy (we got grilled chicken as our protein). But the guero taco with al pastor chicken was sooo good. A little pricy at 5 dollars, but delicious. You bus your own plate at the end and hand it to the cashier but it's not too much work as only the plates were reusable and everything else goes in trash.

Great spot for a quick meal! I usually get a burrito or taco plate. The food is fresh and flavorful, and their horchata is refreshing. The space is relatively large, with the biggest table seating six (more if you take chairs from other tables).

I'm guessing the stars are low because massholes don't know what real Mexican food is like. Beautifully decorated in an eclectic post modern/Memphis group Mexican style and the portions are very generous. I would like to see this place get busier as it's clear the owners take pride in the food and decoration. Very seldom do I leave a Boston business feeling satiated and grateful. Unlike many other businesses in the area, they aren't trying to swindle you or get as many people through the door as possible. Another thing Bostononians aren't familiar with.

Food was very much middle of the road, unimpressive but not terrible in a specific way - just about what one would expect from a Texmex fast food place. However the price was much higher than other places with substantially better quality.

We came here after pottery painting next door, and we were surprised at how tasty it was! When we arrived the gentlemen at the front talked up the menu and shared what was homemade and fresh, so we decided to try a torta and a burrito with carne asada, plus two drinks. When we got our food we were also given some salsas on the side, as homemade. The torta was delicious, so much better than we anticipated. The bread was homemade and you could tell! We got it as it comes, and it was definitely the right call. The burrito was just OK, the rice and beans didn't have much flavor in all honesty. But when I topped it with the green salsa, it was leagues better. I wish I got the larger burrito so I could enjoy more of it! I don't remember if there were prices posted (I don't think so), so that was my biggest question while ordering. We definitely want to come back here when we pick up our pottery pieces from next door.

Delicious, pretty authentic Mex food. Lots of options and add ons. Friendly staff , and venue has a nice vibe.Cons: Agua Frescas are too concentrated, a bit pricey for food quantity (the taste makes up for it though), no self serve water available.Review by a Mexican and Peruvian couple.Chilango Approved

Having a Mexican restaurant replace the original Anna's is a tall order, and Chilacates definitely lives up to the billing. The fun and lively decor, the vibrant and colorful painting of Frida Kahlo in the back got my kids super excited to be eating out in our little neighborhood. It's been a long time since I've been able to order Torta and I was so excited to see it on the menu. The torta bread is delicious, with the bread the right amount of airiness and crunch. The Elote was well grilled with plenty of flavor. It's great to have this in the neighborhood. I'll be back for more!

Great Mexican food outside of East Boston. Since they expanded, I've noticed some quality control issues. The location is Brookline is the last one I visited and it was really good.

This place is the real deal. In an area with limited Mexican food, this place is shockingly good. I've tried a quesadilla, the birria tacos, chicken tacos, and the guacamole and they've all been great, but the chicken tinga torta is what I always come back to. It's a great deal, it's delicious and it's huge! I usually split the two halves between 2 meals, and it tastes delicious (and reheats well too)Everything I've had here has been flavorful, high quality, and worth coming back for. My only complaint is I wish the chips and guacamole weren't so expensive for the potion size, but that's a minor thing
