First time here. Great experience. Cool atmosphere, nice looking and clean. The food was excellent and the servers were friendly and attentive. We started with wine and the lamb samosas. They were excellent, crispy, fresh and full of flavor. For our meal, we had the Tandoori chicken, the lamb biriyani, chicken Madras (where my family is originally from) garlic naan, sides of yogurt and a papdam. They food came out quick, with the tandoori chicken taking a minute longer. Everything was really fresh and tasted so good. The tandoori chicken was tender and juicy. They really nailed everything. I'd bring family here.

This place is so frickin delicious! Its a little on the pricer end but the quality of the food is absolutely worth it. Highly recommend going in person rather than ordering takeout because it comes out extra hot, steaming, and fresh in person. I got takeout once before and it was good but the price was much more worth it when we dined in. Service was attentive and speedy too!We ordered the chicken momo that came in a tomato based soup, and ate that first. These are such delicious dumplings and the tomato soup really was a nice light soupy consistency that had enough body to stick to the Momos for that nice flavor. We sipped up the soup after we finished the Momos! The garlic naan was super fresh out of the oven and so good that we ordered another batch. So soft, fluffy, and garlicky! The vegetable biryani was rich with flavor and it was hard to stop eating it!The bhindi (okra) was also so rich in flavor and spice and it was a perfect pairing with the naan. Can't wait to come back! Next time I shall try the lunch buffet :)

Cumin is a great spot in Wicker Park to get Indian/Nepalese food. All the food came out really fresh. The highlights were the garlic naan, chicken Tikka masala, and bhindi masala (okra). No reservation was needed on a weeknight dinner. The food was delicious but the price point seemed a bit high for the amount of food.

First and foremost I will say the food is absolutely delicious. But the quality of service and small size portions left more to be desired. We came early on a Friday evening and got seated quickly. We got our orders taken shortly and from there the wait started. We waited almost an hour until our food came out!! We even checked with our server prior to see if our food was coming and kind of got brushed off. I was pretty disappointed at how long we had to wait, and even more disappointed that the staff didn't really seem to care. The restaurant wasn't even super packed at this time so I'm not sure what the hold up was. For our food we got the butter chicken, chicken biryani, matar paneer, and garlic naan. All of the food was delicious and flavors on point. The chicken biryani might have been my favorite - it's probably the best chicken biryani I've had in Chicago. However, I was a little disappointed at the small portion sizes, considering the price of each dish. Really wish I could have enjoyed this place more, since the food really is delicious. Would love to see some improvements in service and more fair portion sizes.

We usually get the chicken tikka masala, chicken 65, garlic naan, and a wild card. The chicken tikka masala is verrrrry good, creamy, and nice robust flavor. It might be my favorite chicken tikka masala in the city! The chicken 65 is inconsistent. The first time we had it, it blew our minds and it's what actually hooked us! Since then, we've ordered it every time hoping to have the same experience, but are often disappointed. Sometimes it's too dry, sometimes it's too salty. It has never been as good as the first time. The wild card dish we had on our most recent visit was the chicken momo. I wouldn't get it again. The filling wasn't very good and the dough was thick and dry. I was between 3 and 4 stars because aside from the chicken tikka masala, nothing else is consistently good. But Cumin is still one of our go-to places for Indian food, and I'd come again despite the limitations. Just beware, the food is pricey for the amount of food and the entrees do not come with rice. We've never dined in, only gotten carry out.

Cumin is a great Indian option in Wicker Park. We've been frequent takeout customers and come by the restaurant a few times. The staff are all incredibly friendly and the location on Milwaukee is really convenient. Cumin's curry selection is top notch with a ton of different bases to chose from. I love that they put a lot of effort in their bases so all of them have distinct flavor profile. They have a wide variety of vegetarian dishes as well. The momos and dumplings on the menu are less common at Indian places. Compared to other Indian restaurants, cumin is very pricey especially for the portion sizes. They don't include rice for free and the staff sometimes has been bit pushy on pushing it when we worded. Cumin is one of the best Indian options in Chicago. Definitely a must try.

Our favorite Indian restaurant in Chicago recently shuttered; closed without warning or fanfare. As sad as we were......Oh well, let's just find a new one.Well, not so fast, Tex!One of our sons flew in today from Philadelphia and stated (with conviction) that he wanted Indian food at the restaurant that just closed. After breaking the news to him about its demise, we put "Mom" on the task of finding a replacement. This saga above was a very long way of me saying, "Hello" to Cumin in West Town.Cumin calls itself a Himalayan - Nepalese - Indian restaurant, and I believe their characterization is correct. Their food has tastes that resemble this region of the world in the best of ways. All three of us (tonight) combed through their menu and put together a pretty damn good dinner:* Chicken Momo Chilli Fry - steamed dumplings of minced chicken seasoned with nepalese spices and herbs served with delicious tomato sauce with sesame powder* Chicken Shali Korma - boneless dark chicken cooked in indian spices and creamy curry sauce * Lamb Vindaalu - boneless lamb and potato cubes cooked in indian spices and hot-tangy curry sauce* Chana Masala - chickpea cooked in indian spices and curry sauce * Paratha - whole wheat flatbread layered with butter* Garlic Naan - fluffy naan with a hint of garlic * Taj Mahal Beer (22 oz.) - We really enjoyed our meal. Not only was it very good, but the service was excellent, and the ambiance had this kind of Zen buoyant feeling going on.Cumin was a bit pricier than our shuttered "Go To" Indian restaurant, and the portions were a tad small, but certainly not a deal breaker. I would absolutely come back here - in a Mississippi minute!
