So much about barbecue can be a matter of taste. Some think that the meat on ribs should fall off the bone, others are sure it should have some bite and fat left as do I. Some people like their sauce sweet and others like it smoky or spicy etc. I want you to know that this review takes it into account and I am leaving 2 stars just on cooking and food knowledge. The best chef, highlights their ingredients and doesn't bury them in what they think is good cooking like too much butter, fat, cayenne, chili powder, salt etc etc etc. Just because you know how to smoke some meat doesn't make you a good chef. This is just very poorly executed food. I really did not enjoy much of it.They bring you a dish of delicious pickles and house made chips. Both are great and were the highlight of this meal. It all went drastically wrong from there. I ordered the Pit sandwich. Brisket, sausage and pulled pork with slaw. The best part was the slaw, the bun is good too. The brisket is over seasoned and candied. Very spicy and sweet. I want to taste the smoke and the beef with all that other stuff in the background. The sausage inedibly buried in chili powder and spices. Cloying and impossible to finish. I couldn't find much in the way of pulled pork on the sandwich but thought the pulled pork in my wife's dish was good. Where was mine? In fact, this is $5 or so more than any of their other sandwiches but was really not very big. Really really not worth $24 at all. Not a good value. The sauces come on the side. One is sweet and is just too sweet and tastes of molasses for my taste. The other I didn't bother to try as it just had an enormous pile of chili flakes on top of it. Barbecue, real barbecue, isn't spicy by the way. In Texas, for example, the only thing that you can find that is sometimes spicy are some of the sausages. This wasn't smoky at all, not that you could possibly taste it if it were. You couldn't taste whatever meat it was either. One of the biggest mistakes you can make as a BBQ joint is to over season everything. Why? Because it becomes cloying on the plate. There's no relief and your palate gets burnt because everything on your plate starts to just taste like chili powder. Trying to hard with every side and every meat by over doing everything is cumulative.I ordered a side of mashed potatoes. There was enough butter for 10 sides. I took one bite and passed. Again, too much of a good thing isn't a great idea when you add it to rich meats, greasy potato chips etc etc. My wife's skillet was a good example. She must have had a pound of cheese in that dish and there was a good level of grease at the bottom. The potatoes were over seasoned. This skillet was like everything else a bomb. Thoughtless without any deftness of touch to the dish. Maybe the staff and or ownership should sit down and try to finish one of these. Don't just take a bite. Punish yourself like you are punishing your customers. These people just don't know a lot about food or cooking. I have traveled all over the U.S. eating this food. This is a bad representation. Probably better if you've had a bunch of drinks! This food is not for me.

We went with the blackened mahi mahi on a bed of the seasonal vegetables (Brussels sprouts), the smoked pulled chicken, and the coleslaw. We also got the smoky tequila cocktail. The Brussels sprouts were really tasty but they weren't cut quite correctly and still had the root/stem part on some of them which took away from it. The smoked chicken and mahi mahi were both good textures but a little bland - I was glad the chicken came with a few dipping sauces. And the cole slaw had good ratios of ingredients. The outdoor seating was lovely for a summer's evening and we were happy to find a place to be able to go without a reservation on a Saturday. The service was good enough, but our waitress did kind of give off the vibe that she didn't want to be there haha

I've been wanting to try Chicago q for a while. And my intentions were to try their bbq food, but when I saw they had a brunch menu, some entrees sounded good so we went with their brunch menu. This place is huge. It didn't seem big from the outside, but they have three separate dining area. The outdoor patio, the bar area on the front and a massive dining area towards the rear of the building. We chose to dine in their dining room which was empty. I felt the service could have been a little faster, they were that busy, but took over 1/2 hour for our food to arrive. They start you off with home made potato chips and pickles. Both of these were very tasty, but I would have eaten them slower if I knew the food would take awhile to come out. The bbq sauces were also really good. My wife ordered their Chilaquiles. I'll be honest with ya'll, these chilaquiles were the worst I have ever tried. I joked with my wife afterwards that they probably didn't have tortillas to make this dish, so they went to go buy some, came back, fried them for a bit put a little bit of salsa and queso fresco and a fried egg on top. Very tasteless and disappointing dish. I still wanted a little bbq so decided go get their Pulled Pork Benedict. This came with fried green tomatoes at the bottom, pulled pork and topped with a poached egg and Cajun hollandaise sauce with a side of potato hash. This dish was near flawless. I would have preferred a thicker cut of the green tomato. I love fried green tomatoes, and felt what they used was a little too small. But overall the dish was so delicious. The pulled pork had a nice Smokey flavor and went well with the Cajun hollandaise sauce. I would definitely order this again.

While searching Yelp for barbecue places to try, I came across Chicago q, which is within walking distance of where I live. I wondered why I'd never noticed it, but there is no tell tale whiff of smoke in the air as you walk by. It's usually that delightful smell of smoked meat which tips me off that I'm near some good barbecue, and it's missing here. This place is on my running route, so it's not timing, as I go right by here early in the morning at least a few days a week. At any rate, we decided to try their brunch menu today. It's a nice looking restaurant with a comfortable patio, lots of seating, a friendly and welcoming bar, and overall cleanliness and ambiance that beckons. Service was prompt and friendly, and we made our selections; I went for the Frontier skillet, which is a base of potatoes and bell peppers with pulled pork, bacon, cheddar cheese and 2 eggs your way. I asked for the barbecue sauce on the side, as I always like to try smoked meat without it first. I ordered my eggs over medium and they were cooked nicely. The pulled pork was also good, although I didn't get a lot of smoke flavor, and it was buried in about a half of a pound of cheddar. I really like cheddar, but this was overkill. The potatoes were highly seasoned and greasy. I found after eating about a third of it that the overall fat bomb quality of this dish was just too much, even though I pushed away quite a bit of the cheese and skipped the barbecue sauce, which was both cloyingly sweet and too spicy. For me, the best barbecue is simple, and it seems to me that they are adding too much here. I know this pleases a lot of people, but I find it out of balance. I'm probably not their audience, as this food strikes me as party fare (or hangover fare) for 20-somethings. I've had not great luck finding The Real Dixie barbecue north of the Mason-Dixon Line, so I should probably just wait for my next trip south to indulge.

Great food and service! The sampler of brisket, pulled pork, and pulled chicken was really good! I liked all the bbq sauces and couldn't decide on a favorite. The cornbread was amazing too!

We really enjoyed our visit to Chicago q! I have not tried any BBQ in Chicago that tastes quite like it.We sat indoors for an early dinner and it was fairly empty and quiet. Our server was very attentive and provided us with great recommendations. We split the ribs, brisket, baked beans, cole slaw, and cornbread. The standouts by far were the brisket and cole slaw- the meat absolutely melted in the mouth and had an awesome smokiness, while the cole slaw provided a unique, tangy crunch of high quality fresh ingredients. The ribs were flavorful but a bit dry, and the baked beans were a bit more peppery than expected. The cornbread was good, but I wish there had been more of the delicious honey butter. I really enjoyed the variety of sauces as well- the original was definitely our unanimous favorite. Will definitely be back, and recommend Chicago q to anyone looking for a new BBQ spot!

My Mom and I came here for lunch recently. I was surprised at how many seating options there were: Al fresco tables on the patio, the bar, the high top tables in the bar, booths and tables in the back and upstairs seating. Good for parties of all sizes! Very spacious and yet uncrowded.I have to say I was disappointed by the food-The signature fried chicken sandwich consisted of two chicken tenders that were overly deep fried and tough, three tiny B&B pickles and hardly any of the signature aioli. In addition, they no longer serve complimentary B&B House pickles or their house chips. When asked why they replied "COVID 19."Our waiter was attentive, professional and kind.My Mom said she was happy with her pulled pork sandwich-which came with three sauce options and was a very generous portion on a soft roll.

Overall, a good experience. Service was a little slow to start, but once it got going, it was adequate. My old fashioned was good. No apps, but I ordered a combo plate (pulled pork and ribs). The pulled pork was delicious and the ribs were pretty good. A little dry. I loved the 3 sauces that came with the meal. The Mac n cheese was also really good. Ambiance was good - not too loud.Overall, a solid option if you're craving bbq in the city.

All around awesome little upscale bbq place. Everything was very delicious, although the Brussels sprouts were a bit lack luster and could have used more flavor. I also wish there was another more classic bbq sauce option that came with the flight, but the meat was flavorful on its own. It's definitely on the pricier side but it's high quality. They have a nice little patio and the interior is spacey. Would return again!

We had phenomenal service from Haley. She made sure we had any and everything we needed. She made sure the big game was on the tv by us too. Definitely will be coming back. P.S. try the ribs!
