I've lived in the neighborhood for 6 years and for 5 of those years I thought this building was derelict. When we finally ended up going, I was shocked to find the restaurant absolutely packed with people! Food was good and I plan to go back.

Standouts from the weekend dim sum menu:- seaweed fantuan - savory soy milk- Shanghai pan fried noodlesWe've come here a bunch of times and always enjoy the lively atmosphere on weekends and the food ofc. Everything is really comforting and they have a special Chinese menu outside of the regular menu iykyk. This is also one of the only restaurants in Seattle that sells all types of bing in case you're in the mood. The wait can get a little long depending on how busy it is so just be mentally prepared.

Nice waitstaff greeted us upon arrival, ambiance reminded me of the Chinatown authentic Chinese decor. Food was surprisingly good too. We had almost given up on finding decent Chinese food in these parts of Washington! Will be back to try some more dishes soon!

My family owned a Chinese restaurant in L.A. Chinatown back in the 1960's and Chiang's Gourmet Restaurant kind of reminds me of it. On the upside, the food is really good and authentic. Easily in the top 10 Chinese restaurants in Seattle and the service is good. On the downside, the venue really needs a little TLC. I would dine in here but it is a little run down. Apparently it was a local root beer chain (XXX?) which dates back to the 1940's. So there is a nostalgic history to the building. So here is how it scored from high to low...1. Chajiang Mian 5/5 ($15): wow love their hand made noodles.2. Salt & Pepper Fish Fillet 5/5 ($24): a fabulous rendition but a little pricey3. Fried Dumpling 4/5 ($14-8 pieces): a really solid pot sticker4. Five Star Spicy Hot Chicken 4/5 ($18): well it was 4 stars and not that spicy LOL Actually enjoyed this dish and would order again.5. Beef Chow Fun 3/5: not on the menu but the meat was chewy and no onions or bean sprouts.6. Bean Curd Sheet Roll: 3/5 ($10-1 roll): this was a disappointment for me. It was pricy and really dry compared to a traditional bean curd roll. All that said it is innovative.I like this place and will definitely return for takeout. I guess it's known for its Taiwanese breakfast dishes. It's pricey but everything is pricey these days. At least the quality and quantity justifies the cost. It's a "diamond in the rough" or maybe a "diamond in a root beer stand". LOL Check it out.

3.5 star is where it's at when it comes to authentic Asian food (iykyk) this place looks so trash and I was honestly taken back by it. But you know... don't judge a book by it's cover. You need to come here during the weekend for its breakfast menu. I come here for the sticky rice rolls and particularly love the savory ones. I don't know if there's anywhere else to get it. I love their pork century egg congee too--super flavorful and not overly large portion size. Staff are all friendly here, though service can be a bit slow during the weekend. Parking is very easy.

This is honestly a hidden gem. The exterior looks very old and outdated. It does have a parking lot which is convenient. food actually tastes amazing. Price is very affordable for the portion. Will come back.

Kicking myself for not trying this restaurant earlier. Chiang's Gourmet is easily one of the best Chinese restaurants on the North side of Seattle! We went for dim sum, which they serve from 10:30am-3pm Sat and Sun. We arrived at around 11am on Sunday and were seated almost immediately. The food was delicious and fresh, and our server was incredibly nice! Food:Baked Cake Wrapped with Stuffing of Beef: 5/5, this was recommended by our server and it was delicious! It was similar to a meat pie with a yummy umami beef and veggie filling.Pork Shui Mai with Shrimp: 5/5, some of the best shui mai I've had. Juicy meaty filling with great flavor.Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf: 5/5, delicious sticky rice! Great filling of Chinese Sausage, beef, mushrooms, etc.Sweet Rice Round Dumpling Wrapped with Dried Turnip, Fritters of Twisted Dough & Fried Shredded Meat: 3/5, probably would not order this again. It was good, but the filling was a bit too salty for my taste buds. Steamed BBQ Pork Bun: 3/5, solid bbq pork buns, but nothing to write home about. I prefer a higher filling-to-bun ratio.Deep Fried Meat Dumplings: 2/5, not my favorite. Too much dough and not enough different flavors in the filling. Overall, I definitely plan to try this place again, with a couple of adjustments to the order (and possibly more than 2 people so we can try more dishes!). I also want to try their regular lunch/dinner menu.

This is now my 3rd (!!!) review of Chiang's and this place still reigns supreme. My family has been coming here for over 10 years now, and I make a point of having a meal here every time I come back to visit Seattle. It's still the same friendly people and the same welcoming atmosphere. I am SO happy that they survived the pandemic, although I guess I shouldn't be surprised since they've always had a pretty robust takeout customer base. All my old favorites are still consistently great--the jajiangmian, the mushu pork or vegetable, the dry fried string beans, the wu geng chang wang (blood tofu and pork intestine in a spicy sauce), the mei cai kou rou (pork belly with mustard greens), the taro spare ribs...and if you're into it, the stinky tofu is pretty good here, too. The woman who runs the place is always coming by with pro tips on how to best eat your leftovers, which I think is awesome. I hope this place continues to thrive and stick around, because they do it best.

Probably one of the tastiest Chinese restaurant in the Seattle area. The exterior of the building is a little off putting as it's not something you would drive by and think "I have to try that place." You have to get past the chaotic-no-wait-list-you-stand-in-line but the food is worth it. Parking: yes but small lot. Dog friendly: noFamily friendly: yes even though there is a sign that says no minor FOOD: DIMSUM MENU: 1. Fritters of twisted dough with shrimp: 2 star. no price as this was the hostess "recommendation." I use this in quotes cause it wasn't a suggestion, more like she's telling us need to get it. Verbiage of the menu is kind of weird as most people know this as Chinese donuts or crueller. We agreed to get this mostly cause we had no idea what this was. 2. Baked cake wrapped with fritters of twisted dough and egg $7: 5 stars! This was like a massive hot pocket-sandwich. The "cake" is kind of like a less buttery puff pastry that flakes with sesame seed. It was sliced in half length wise and stuffed with 3-4 pieces of crueller and scrambled egg. Was probably the best thing and definitely worth the price. 3. Crispy biscuit wrapped with shredded turnip (2) $6: 5 star! This was actually really good but wish it was bigger or came with more pieces. The exterior was nicely pan seared and turnip was very tender and had great flavor tho a tad bit heavy handed with white pepper but I liked it! 4. Pan fried pork bun (3) $6.50: 3 star. It was decent - good sear on the bun but it was pretty small and the flavor was okay. The best part was the bun to meat ratio. 5. Pan fried leek bun (2) $4.00: 3 star. I think this was more like the garlic chive then leek. Similar to the pan fried pork bun but one less piece but cost less. 6. Steam chicken feet (Phoenix feet) $6.50: 5 Star! Holy hell these were really good! The feet most have come from some steroid chicken cause they were massive! The flavor, the sauce, and the perfect tenderness!! REGULAR MENU: 1. Green onion pancakes $10: 4 star - these were not the tradition scallion type pancake were you had the scallion all over and you could see the swirl. This was more like scallions we're packed into a dough ball and completely rolled flat then deep fried. Super crispy and hot which was nice to know it was fried to order. 2. Fried tofu $11: 3 star - they were okay. The best I've had so far is at King's in Bellevue (but I think they're now called Royal Kitchen). The menu just said "fried tofu" with no added description. So it wasnt the salt and pepper style or anything.. just deep fried tofu squares with some scallion bits. RESTAURANT AND MENU: For dimsum, they have a 1 pager, double sided, menu. The front page is more like Asian street food and the back page has more of the dim sum items. It was really confusing reading their dim sum menu because it's not really dim sum and their description isn't like how you'd find at other restaurants. They have a full lunch/dinner menu as well. Hence why I broke up the food description so you know where to find it. The restaurant is small, pretty tight with the number of booths and tables. The tables are all the larger style for big parties of 6 or 8 people. Like most chinese restaurant, they don't have a great entrance way/waiting area. They didn't have a waiting list so there was just a bunch of us crowding in the door way in line. There wasn't a separate line for to-go/pick up either. It was really confusing. SERVICE: They seemed understaff. I honestly felt bad for the workers because they were hustling when they were so busy yet so behind. We only really interacted with the hostess who also turned out to be the waitress taking our order. She's provided typical Chinese customer service when you speak Chinese - she told us what we really wanted, judged what we ordered and made edits to our order without telling us lol

Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouseXmas eve was about, and no food in the houseBut fear not, dear hungry, help was soon nearA restaurant was found, to provide munchies and cheerThank you for reading my exhaustive review .. the end(( walks behind stage .. waits for the crowd encore call ... storms back on stage ))Thank you!!!!Perhaps, one last note on my review!Picture it! Seattle. Christmas Eve, 2023. The people are hungry. The restaurants are closed. Panic runs amok in the streets and then from afar (or from a post in a Facebook group...), you see it, like a beacon in the night guiding you to salvation ...a bright neon sign ... Chiang's Gourmet (queue festive holiday music).Given that we visited on Christmas Eve, we were surprised at getting seated almost right away. Some patrons arriving after us did seem to have a small ... but very modest wait, especially considering it was Xmas Eve. The service overall was very fast, very knowledgeable, very friendly, but not without some small caveats (I'll touch on those later on in the review). If you're a vegetarian or vegan, please make a point to ask for their separate vegetarian menu (which is also accessible online). The majority of their vegetarian options are vegan, barring options that contain eggs. If you're unsure, definitely check with your servers as they seem very knowledgeable. The menu has a plethora of appealing options, whether you're looking for an appetizer, soup, noodles, special entree ... you'll find something to love! Most of the food was over the top amazing, the sweet and sour ribs were "meaty" with sweet overtones and a cute, edible bamboo "bone" in the middle, green onion pancakes, thick and savory .. especially when coupled with the delicious brown dipping sauce, the fried tofu seemed just ...ok, by that I mean a bit too cooked on the outside (all three in our party felt the same) , but all of the other vegan items were nothing short of amazing (please see attached pictures). The prices you'll find here are not cheap but at the same time ... the portion sizes are really big, so you do get your money's worth! Ok, the caveats. One of the main entrees was brought to the table before even the appetizers had arrived, we found that to be odd. The other oddity was not bringing rice to the table until well after all of the main entrees arrived. I'm totally willing to dismiss the errant timing of the food service due to Xmas Eve craziness but I'd be remiss if I didn't at least mention this. The last caveat was the bathrooms, they're kind of dinky, to be honest. My overall thoughts, Chiang's Gourmet is a huge win-win. There were some caveats which I wanted to be honest about in the interest of presenting a full and balanced review but I'm thinking there's no way you come out of your experience at Chiang's disappointed in any way.
