I have two words for you: Cumin lamb. Chen's is legit Chinese, not that American nonsense we call Chinese food. Easily the best in Phoenix. Hands down.

I have heard of this place for years but never got around to trying it. Decided to go in the summer while it is less crowded because there are less college students around. I know that it will make it easier to find parking since it's such a small lot with a very limited number of spaces. I don't know where I would park during the school year when there are simply more people around because there's not a ton of spaces around the vicinity...unless you're walking some ways away. But, if you get to make it inside, it reminds me of a lot of small owned Chinese restaurants I've been going in my whole life. We ordered the beef noodle soup, one spicy and one plain. One of us ordered it with rice noodle and the other with egg noodle. The menu defaults to rice noodle which I think is different but when we ordered, they gave us a choice of rice or egg. Quick note: get the rice noodle. The egg noodle was subpar. Both soups had great flavor - you can't go wrong either way. The spicy soup broth had nice spicy flavor rather than just being spicy and numbing. The rice noodles had a nice bounce/qq texture - makes this dish a little different than most places that have beef noodle soup. The beef was also great! It was too tough or dry. It had nice marbling of meat and tendon - great cut of meat for this soup. It was also cut to a good thickness that complemented the dish well. Service was great and prices were reasonable. So happy to have this as an option close to campus. You can tell the owners work hard and take pride in having this restaurants and it really reinforces that it's businesses like these I want to support! Give them a try!

The parking lot was a bit small, so biking there might be a better option for college students. Once inside, the restaurant turned out to be much larger than expected, with interesting Chinese paintings adorning the walls. We tried a variety of dishes including noodles, dumplings, fried rice, and drunken chicken - all of which were flavorful and served in generous portions. We visited around noon and found the restaurant to be fairly empty, likely due to the summer break. It was nice to enjoy a peaceful meal without the usual crowds. What impressed us the most was the reasonable pricing for the amount and quality of food we received. Good portion sizes and tasty dishes at such affordable prices are hard to come by these days.

I should have been to this place sooner! I hear about them but I was worried about traffic/parking around the campus. I did delivery order and I wanted to do this every Friday. The fish is so tasty with some kinds of salt and pepper sauce with lots of chili. The pickled celery on top of rice is surprisingly good and addictive. The black rice porridge is tasty with a little bit of sweetness. I need more bowl please.

I'll start with a couple caveats--1. I recognize this place is a Noodle House and I didn't get noodles, which is on me.2. I ordered on Doordash, so have no insight on service or ambiance. Now, for my experience--I got the Braised Chicken House Special Combo (which comes with rice, a fried egg, celery and peanuts, and choice of egg flower soup or black rice porridge--I chose the egg flower soup). I love me a good combo, because it gives me the variety that I enjoy in a meal, but this one unfortunately fell flat. The egg flower soup was very starchy, and didn't have much flavor - I don't even think it was broth-based because it didn't have that umami that I typically expect. Similarly, though the egg was beautifully fried, it didn't have any noticeable seasoning, nor did the celery. I found myself looking for salt, which is atypical (one of my go-to criticisms of restaurants is that the food is too salty). The braised chicken itself was ok - was pretty good on its own, but bland when eaten with the rice or celery, and was also a little starchy (probably because of the potatoes) and the chicken pieces were very small. That being said, there was a good amount of food and I was able to make a couple of meals out of it. Overall, I think if there was just a little less starch and a little more salt and seasonings, the food would be much better. Not a "bad" restaurant by any means, but not worth going to with all the other great Chinese places in the Valley.

too much rice compared to pork! to me it's like a comfort meal but not special! the egg drop soup tastes strange to me! my husband expected his beef chow fun to be more saucy instead of on the dryer end with cumins! would not come back

Despite the short wait we experienced to finally order after being seated, the food was actually so tasty. I heard the spicy beef noodle soup was good, and all the reviews were right! The meat was so tender and juicy, and the portion was pretty decent. There were other items on the menu that I'd like to try in the future. Definitely more of a lowkey place and a quieter setting, but would definitely want to come back!

This was the first time we ate at this restaurant. We were so happy with the delicious food. This place is the real deal. We ordered 8 fairly typical Chinese dishes, and nearly all were delicious and authentic. We started with their potstickers which were tasty and with a good amount of filling although I would have liked them crispier. The beef noodle soup had veryI tender meat and delicious broth. Lots of egg noodles, too. The pork chops dish was delicious; it would have been better if the egg was sunny-side up. The accompanying black rice porridge was really tasty. The soup dumplings were good, thin skin and plenty of broth. I liked the green beans a lot because they weren't the typical greasy and overly salty beans. I didn't care for the cold chicken dish; it would have been better with fresh ginger slices and cilantro. Service was quick, too. The parking lot is quite small and most spaces are assigned to specific businesses. We were lucky to find an end spot because it was a slow night.
