Having visited Chennai Express through several changes in ownership over the past two years (I believe they're now officially called Indie Spice), I'm happy to report back that their food has remained consistently delicious throughout. I'm not sure if they've maintained the same chef(s) or have changed, but I have thoroughly enjoyed all of the food I have ordered thus far through about 4-5 different visits. The standout though has to be the freshly baked garlic naan. I very much enjoy naan in general but this place's naan is hands down my favorite of all others I've tried in the area. Last time I went, both the lamb vindaloo curry and lamb biryani were flavorful and the meat was tender and easy to chew. While I normally am not a fish person and will almost always choose meat over seafood, I was impressed enough by my wife's fish curry that it's under consideration as part of a change of pace for my next visit. The spices in the curry pair very well with the fish and the fish was cooked seemingly perfectly.I also enjoyed a mango lassi with my meal. I would recommend it, but will caveat that the texture of the drink is a little bit on the thicker side compared to other mango lassis I've had. I personally have no issues with that, but it may fill you up a bit more than you'd expect. As some reviewers have mentioned, the one knock I have on this place is the interior decor. It's not particularly inviting and it's a rather large space with not much going on. I think most of it was leftover from the bar / restaurant that used to be there, but unfortunately, it didn't seem like much was repurposed to improve either the interior or curb appeal. That being said, the food is fantastic and the service is great so I will certainly be back.

Delicious, flavorful, and authentic! Came here on a weekday for dinner and did not have to wait long for a table. We ordered the chicken tikka masala, lamb vindaloo, and multiple orders of the garlic naan. The naan is simply that good. The establishment is clean and neat. Great service and great food. Highly recommend checking them out!

Highly recommend!!. Food was absolutely delicious. Ordered the chicken tikka and biryani; both were flavorful and delicious. Samosas were outstanding, as were the sauces which are made fresh daily.. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for authentic Indian cuisine. (Tip: byob)We will certainly be back!!

Indian food is anything but lightly seasoned. We had the saffron chicken, vindaloo chicken and the best of the three for me Briyani chicken with rice. The garlic naan also deserves a shout out. Portions were large for lunch especially the briyani

Found in the sticks of Arlington Heights. (The drive from the city I mean.) I mentioned this to the owner. He came over to introduce himself during our meal. To the question of location he wanted to bring his styles of South Indian food to a new market. Chicago & near surrounding burbs have a significant South Indian presence in the restaurant game already. From our conversation we gleaned that he had worked in NYC & Miami. Picking up new techniques and ingredients along the way, he wanted to implement them to see if it hits with his new customer base. His menu includes flambé and a special preparation of biriyani which utilizes a cooking utensil specific to coconut infusions. For this special biriyani (seasoned rice with chicken, that's the only protein they use. Bummer.) To enjoy this special preparation customers are requested to order three hours in advance. The restaurant is a first for he and team so they're adapting and reformulating as they move forward. From the time of my dining to the writing of this review (about a month), their menu has expanded with more offerings. Currently the restaurant is only byob and it doesn't sound like they plan on a liquor license anytime soon. So for the diner, enjoy your favorite spirits without any extra byob fees for the time being. If you're a fan of Tamilnadu food preparations you should enjoy. Just be extra careful of how spicy you request your meal. They haven't properly figured out maintaining specific spice levels. Best to experience as is and if you need a side of yogurt (raita) it can be requested. Presently they offer entrees, curries and grilled items. Currently there are no plans to offer dosa specialties. However there are many breads offered. The standards, naan, paratha, kulcha and uttapam (usually only offered in South Indian restaurants)The restaurant isn't much to look at presently, very generic at the moment. Hopefully with time and more audience, they can change it up as they move forward. Given it's distance from commuter traffic areas, I wonder how much attention they might get. Food is solid and tastes are wonderful but if you're not drawing enough attention to the area... is all I will say. Best to phone ahead and find out what's going on. The night I stopped in, it was Chinese night. Special Indo-Chinese food offering in a prix-fix menu for a specific price. (Three courses) Although they offer special menus nightly, their regular menu is always available.

This restaurant is tucked inside a strip mall, and I wouldn't have noticed it if it had not been recommended on my maps. When you walk in, you notice the spacious, if sparsely decorated, interior. We have been here several times and have thoroughly enjoyed the dishes we've tried so far. Portion sizes are large, and prices are reasonable. I really liked the fish malabar curry. The fish was tender, not dry at all. Garlic basil naan was delicious - so warm and fluffy! They will adjust spiciness levels upon request if you have lower tolerance (me, unfortunately). The servers were kind and helpful. I think this will be my go to spot when I'm craving Indian food!

The best Indian food in the northwest suburbs. It's not cheap, but you're getting good quality. Chicken and lamb dishes come in thick curries....not watered down which is usually how I can tell when they are freshly made. Great carry out option...dining in is a little different because the place is usually pretty empty. Bring your own bottle and don't expect a lot other than good food and a lot of open space.

FYI this place is closed. Came here Aug 9th 2024- was looking for a lunch special and picked this one from Yelp but no luck- it isn't open. Also is listed as indie spice not Chennai express. Would love to try it whenever it opens but mad I drove all this way and it's closed.
