Generous portion sizes with good food and service! Definitely a restaurant where I recommended ordering family style. They have a bunch of vegetarian options and some of our absolute favorites were the fried eggplant, fried vegetable noodles, vegetable fried rice, mapo tofu, and home style bean curd! The vegetarian Dan Dan noodles has a lot of flavor but were way too salty.

Back again! It has been too long. We ordered my classic triad of green peppercorn fatty beef, Mao xue wang (intestine and blood), and mala kidney, paired with ci ba for desert.Happy to see the dishes are still consistent. I like that they are flavorful but don't feel oily. Even the blood has full flavor penetrating. It was a good amount of numbing and spicy without taking away from being able to taste the other flavors. These are also great dishes to take home left overs.Service was a bit slower, probably have some newer staff and they brought the Ci Ba (desert item) out first. We did order everything at once but they never clarified if we would like the dessert early or after our entrees. But still tasty as an appetizer. The place was about 50% capacity on a Friday night dinner so seating is not difficult but there's still the feeling of bustling.

We were in town for a trade show. This restaurant was close to where we lived. We had no expectation whatsoever. Both food and service were great which explained why there were no empty tables the entire night. Not sure when we would come back again, but I highly recommend if you are looking for authentic spicy Chinese food.

An awesome find in Wicker Park! Chengdu had been on my radar for awhile and it's safe to say this will be a new go-to.With an extensive Sichuan menu and affordable prices, we were able to try a variety of dishes at a great price. We started with the Zhong's dumplings which had a great spicy and sweet sauce and a flavorful pork filling. The dry chili chicken was super crispy and piping hot- I had not had numbing spice before, and it was an addicting phenomenon that was not too spicy. We also ordered the stir fried beef with celery, which added a refreshing crunch to the spicy, thinly sliced yet tender beef. I loved that the rice was sticky and not dry (and may have eaten too much of this). Our favorite, though, were the Sichuan string beans. They packed a punch of flavor and I am already craving this dish again! The staff was super prompt and professional, and the vibe is casual with a nicely decorated interior. Will definitely be back soon and can't recommend enough!

Great Chinese food with big portions. Got takeout and everything was good except for the scallion pancakes! They were SO greasy so beware of that. Otherwise we enjoyed everything else per usual. Will definitely return if we are nearby.

Chengdu Impression is one of my favorite spots for Chinese takeout in Wicker Park! My favorite dish that I get every time is the Sichuan Cold Noodles Salad (under cold appetizers). For $9 they give a ton of flavorful noodles that can be eaten hot or cold! The cold spiciness is a very unique combination and the texture of the noodles are always perfect. Today I also got the salty and pepper shrimp, I was expecting larger shrimp than the popcorn shrimp, but the seasoning was still good. I also tried the bean curd with peanut appetizer, it's pretty flavorful. Their hot and sour soup is also a great deal at $3.50, and it's about two servings worth! They also have a really good dry chili chicken.Their menu is extensive and they have plenty of seating inside. I definitely recommend Chengdu Impression if you're craving Chinese/Sichuan food!

Walked in around 7pm on Saturday and the restaurant was packed. However, we only waited about 15 minutes to be seated. While waiting, I noticed tons of carry out orders. The space is very open, so it can get quite loud. The decor is simple yet effective as it provides an authentic and clean feel. The eating style is shared dishes. Generally, they're large enough for two or three people. We started with the West Lake Beef Soup which was similar to egg drop soup, but had beef and fresh vegetables. It was more traditional but still very good. The next one was stewed chicken with taro. The flavors were great, but I wish they added more chicken. The chicken itself was one of the best I've ever had.Finished the meal with Hong Tang Ci Ba, which is a rice cake rolled in toasted soy powder atop a caramelized brown sugar sauce. It was surprisingly light and very tasty. The sauce wasn't too sweet or overpowering. Overall, Chengdu Impression provides a nice, authentic Chinese dinner.

I came here with some friends a couple of months ago for dinner on a Friday night! It was pretty busy, but the service was still really good. I loved the ambiance in the restaurant and it had a really good vibe. The food was absolutely delicious and SO good for the price. I was so hungry and was only able to finish half of my fried rice which I got to-go. Would definitely come back here and recommend for anyone nearby who wants delicious and affordable chinese food!

This is now the first place I think to do when I'm craving spicy, savory, flavorful sichuan food. Chengdu Impression has a huge menu and every single item I've ordered while there has been exactly what I hoped. I've tried the dry chilli chicken, hot and sour soup, xiao long bao, spicy wonton soup, and spicy beef noodle soup. While they were all outstanding one of my favorites was definitely the spicy beef noodle soup packed with tender braised beef and numbing mala spice. The broth was heavy and on the salty side but easily enjoyable. I was shocked at how flavorful the dry chili chicken was-each piece of meat was moist (it had avoided how dry deep frying chicken can get) and seasoned well. Service is prompt when its busy and the restaurant is a great spot to either eat in or order takeout from. Definitely a new favorite for me!

My son and I took a trip to Chengdu to visit my brother who was teaching out there, and since then we have been fans of Sichuan cuisine. We came thru Chengdu Impression right before the kitchen closed at 2:30pm (weekday hours). The ambience wasn't bad, but wasn't anything special either. The restaurant is clean, open, and has a lot of natural light. I don't know if aroma would count as ambience, but if it does than Chengdu Impression's ambience would be 5/5 as the Sichuan peppercorn and spices fill the air from a block away. I was served by several different people, and all of them were polite. The food came out within 15 minutes, and it was delivered all at once. My son and I both ordered Dandan noddles, and they were the best that we've ever had. Better than the Dandan noodles we had in Chengdu. The fries we got were just as delicious as we remembered them being in Chengdu. Overall I was very impressed with Chengdu Impression. I will be back to try more items and I recommend that you give them a try if you like Sichuan food or Asia food in general.
