I first found Chef JUN during Covid in 2020 and was immediately impressed with the selection and quality of their sushi - especially when your only option is to have it delivered. I loved it then, so when we moved back to the SD area and wanted sushi for dinner I had my fingers crossed Chef JUNs establishment survived Covid (knowing a lot of our favorite restaurants had to close because of it). We were so glad it did and were excited to have our very first dine-in experience.As a family of four we went on the side of caution and made a reservation via Yelp for the early evening. We arrived and were seated immediately. I have to say how lovely our whole experience was - from service, to quality of the dishes, to ambiance, etc. I love that they offer a omakase (but you have to reserve that 24hrs in advance)...so I'll definitely be back for that experience. So, in its place I went for their Jun Sama which has the essence of an omakase in that it is premium sushi and chef selected. I wish I could tell you the names of everything that came out, but it wouldn't do any justice. I was so happy with my selections and everything tasted wonderful. My husband opted for a few of their rolls a la carte and the kids enjoyed the typical rice with miso soup (this dinner was definitely more for the adults than the kids, lol). The dishes came out on-time and service never skipped a beat.Overall, we were both extremely impressed with our meal and can't wait to make our return! If you're a lover of authentic sushi then you must stop in to Chef JUN to see for yourself!

Came here on a Wednesday evening craving sushi. The inside of the restaurant felt inviting with a nice ambianceI ordered garlic edamame, the fire fire roll, and a draft Sapporo. Garlic edamame was tasty. The fire fire roll was perfectly seared and packed with flavor. The sushi roll had more fish in it than I was expecting. Service was okay. Server took a while to come to my group's table and take our order but was very quick to hand us our bill. We had asked about any happy hour deals and our server said that they didn't offer any. But then served the table next to us saying that they had 50% off draft beers, leaving me confused.

My sister's surprised me for my birthday with an omakase dinner at Chef Jun. The service and space was great. Parking lot was OK, but it is smallish so could easily fill up.The omakase was served at our table which was different since I usually get seated at the sushi bar at other restaurants. It was 8 courses, plus miso soup to start. All courses were beautifully prepared and lots of unique sauces and even a few slivers of black truffle! Every course had multiple pieces of different fish which was very generous.My only complaint was the lack of starch or vegetable. I think a course with a sushi roll, small bowl of sukiyaki or ramen would have been a nice touch. I left happy, but a little hungry since we only ate fish except for 2 course which had 4 pieces of nigiri..We shared a nice bottle of Hakkaisam sake which was a nice light, not too sweet complement for the sushi.Overall great dining experience that I would enjoy again.

Came back, stuck to sushi and ramen. Ramen was not as spicy as I hoped it to be. However it had good flavor. All the fish was melt in your mouth. Would recommend. Was easy to get same day reservation.

Truly outstanding. Service was amazing, with detailed explanation of the extensive (and reasonably priced) menu and great monitoring of our needs and rush to help out. For example my wife dropped her chopsticks and from across the room a waitress not even assigned to our table rushed over to replace them!There are four tiers of what is essentially omakase. For the third highest tier, we got really outstanding dishes including a fresh scallop in mango sauce and raspberry and a super buttery thin slice of lightly toasted fish on rice. Truffle slices and truffle salt was used in three separate presentations (not just in the omakase). The excellent waiter advised that the kitchen would gladly modify dishes, so for example when we expressed a preference for aburi (lightly toasted) belly sushi, that was done for three of our omakase pieces.We loved this so much -- and we are extremely picky sushi eaters from San Francisco and New York City--that we made a reservation for tomorrow as well!Totally recommend.

This place was really good! No pictures to post, but this spot exceeded my expectations. The seafood was very fresh and the prices are legit for the quality you get. My wife and I had amazing service. Our server was very helpful. This is definitely a little hidden gem for their location. Will be coming back for sure!

We saw the many raving reviews and decided to try it out. Even with the more affordable prices, I will never come here again. We ordered the Jun Sama. The fish itself was average and didn't have any depth in flavor. There's also a seared salmon pressed sushi dish with lots of mayo so you don't really taste the seared salmon. The WORST thing I have ever eaten at any sushi restaurant was the jumbo scallops in a mango puree dish here. It was horrible. The purée was slightly warm and completely overtook the taste of scallops. And then on top of it they added a fresh blueberry. WHAT?! I was appalled they ruined perfectly good scallops. That was the final straw for me lmao I'm giving 3 stars because the service was nice, it was easy to make a reservation, parking was easy and fish was decent for the price, but not enough to make me want to come back.

I discovered chef jun by mistake several years ago while i was visiting sd area and ended up in la jolla. I'm glad i found it, because everything was GREAT, in quality, presentation and service. Every time i visit sd, i make an effort to go back to chef jun and every time i've been back, it has been awesome.
