Chef J, what a delightful little Chinese restaurant and it's tucked away right here in our neighborhood. Their soups are so rich and flavorful and are seasoned perfectly - not too salty, and with good flavor that isn't covered up by excessive spices, just how I like it.I'm a regular for a reason, especially on the winter days.

We were craving Dim Sum but didn't feel like driving far, so we decided to give this place a shot after reading some promising reviews online.Upon arrival, we noticed the nearly empty parking lot, initially raising concerns about the restaurant's popularity. A cardboard by the entrance displayed the day's specials, with "Js + landmade dim sum" catching our eye. Curious about the term "landmade," we hesitated but decided to give it a chance. When we walked in, there was no one to greet us, but a sign asked us to wait to be seated. After a few minutes, a guy came out and told us we could sit wherever we liked. The place seemed more like an American Chinese food joint than the authentic spot we were hoping for.Despite the initial impressions, we perused the two menus available - one for lunch specials and the other featuring dim sum options. Our order included J's signature fried rice, Shumai, sticky rice, and pan-fried pork dumplings. I understand that the dim sum might take a little longer. However, the fried rice took a bit longer than expected. I had a mini heart attack when we heard a loud sneeze from the kitchen, making us worried about the cleanliness of our food. After some hesitation, we tried the signature fried rice, which turned out to be flavorful and generously packed with chicken, shrimp, and sweet corn. The dim sum that followed looked and tasted authentic, with each piece appearing handmade and unique in shape. So, the moral of the story: don't judge a restaurant by its parking lot or cardboard sign or aller. Chef J Dim Sum & Chinese Bistro may not look like much from the outside, but the food is definitely worth a try if you're in the area and craving some Dim Sum.

Authentic Chinese family owned restaurant. Chef J and his staff were warm and friendly his menu features classic Asian Cuisine and Dim Sum. We tried a couple of lunch specials, and my wife had shrimp and vegetables while I enjoyed Chef J's special chicken. Everything was delicious with fresh ingredients. They had very tasty egg drop soup, and lunch specials are served till 3 pm. It is located in the McCormack Ranch area on Via Linda please support them.

Saw this place served dim sum with decent reviews, so I figured I needed to try it out. To my surprise, the food was actually decent. We ordered lunch specials and a few dim sum plates. The lunch specials were tasty and plentiful. The dim sum, on the other hand, was disappointing. It's great that it's made fresh in-house, but what you get for the price is a rip-off. 4 pieces of their Shu mai dumplings were $7. The entire bag at Walmart is $7. The service was also lacking. We are waiting at the front desk where a host/hostess usually is waiting for customers... however, no one was there. The restaurant wouldn't have known there were people waiting if someone hadn't been walking in to the dining area... it's a bit separated from the entrance. Overall, the ambiance was alright. Confusing set up, but you'll know you're at an Asian restaurant the moment you step inside. Overall, food is good. In terms of pricing... some items need to be reevaluated.

First time eating dim sum in Scottsdale. They don't bring the cart around but you order off the menu. They provide all the classic dishes so you won't be disappointed. Nice to have something in Scottsdale.

Got the spicy eggplant which was not spicy. The skin was too tough to even cut through while the insides of the eggplant were mushy. The sauce was good. The rice looked old.We got the pan seared pork buns, shrimp dumpling and soup dumpling. All were only okay and had a bad after taste. Service was good. Bathrooms were disgusting. Good ambiance in dining area.

The food was great! I was hesitant after reading the not so good reviews but decided on trying the food anyways and was not disappointed! The steamed pork buns were moist, had some kind of flavorful sauce to it. The siomai was very tasty and was the favorite. I had the wonton soup and it was full of veggies and 4 pieces of wonton with bbq strips! So good. We had the beef soup dim sum and the lotus leaf sticky rice. Both delicious! The sesame balls were small and I liked the size, easier to bite into. We had lo mein to finish our dim sum and it was loaded with chicken! All in all, highly recommended. Don't pay attention to the negative reviews!

I was in the area and wanted to try something new. I got my usual, egg drop and wonton soup with their rendition of a triple delight. The soups both had a bunch of extra ingredients in them which was unexpected. The flavor of both soups were good except for the pork pieces that had a lot of fat on them. The meal was tasty as well although the cut of meat was different than other places, it was tougher in texture. I also didn't like the canned mushrooms they used. I've never seen or had canned mushrooms in any Asian meal. This was disappointing. Overall it was a good tasting meal although the price was higher than in used to for these dishes.

Delicious dim sum! My husband and I went for lunch as we were both craving soup dumplings. The service was fast and the food was flavorful! I loved their pork noodles and pork buns. We will definitely visit again in the future.
