I was visiting San Diego and was torn between multiple food options in the city. As I headed to a restaurant that I decided on, I passed by this food truck that caught my eye. The girl at the window informed me as I walked up that they were pretty much out of most of the items that I told her I was interested in, but she would see what she could do. Immediately she was able to make a miracle happen and I was able to order the shrimp, collards, mac, and jumbo shrimp. As I waited I was offered drinks and was able to listen to the music being played by the truck, sending west coast vibes through the air. While my food was being prepared, other people walked up and reluctantly left because the truck was out of food. I knew that the food must be amazing if they ran out. My suspicions were correct when I got back to my car, as everything was seasoned to perfection and a hearty serving of all portions were given. If you visit San Diego, RUN don't walk to this place, because if they run out of food, that goes to show you how high in demand they are! My favorite part of the visit was the staff. By far you can tell that they are extremely close knit, to the point that If they aren't family, I would be surprised. You can feel the love for each other as they work around one another to provide an excellent experience for each customer. Cheers to you guys!

FoodWas unable to eat any but menu looked amazing!ServiceProsI called and texted number to find truck was not in usual place. I did not know it was a truck as I only searched for address and GPS. Outside location near CVS off University was probably a good area. Not too busy or crowded. ConsWhen I called the number, took 3 tries and a text for a response. I was informed to check social media for updated location schedule.2 stars because I do not have their social media and would not have known about schedule. I drove from far with 6 people, 2 cars, to eat here and was unable to because truck was somewhere else.We even drove to Balboa park where the person on the call said they were. Must have not been in our cards!

Okay, so this was technically my second time trying Chef Budda. The first time was at a foodie event in Del Mar about two years ago, and at that time i think they were still getting the hang of it because our chicken had come out burnt. But they have truly redeemed themselves and got it down now.I got the shrimp plate with the potato salad and collard greens. The shrimp was still crunchy even after the box had been closed for a while. Which, if you know, you know. They were a great size and were not small. The potato salad was also good as it tasted fresh. I was pretty impressed with the food, the portion sizes are pretty good and everything was tasty. I'm happy to see the growth and that this family run business is doing well.

Chef Budda always hits the spot!!! They've got great portions for their sides plus the main dishes that will leave you full and satisfied. I ordered the Mac & Cheese, Greens, and some Wings. What makes them great is the way they cook their food. Their wings are crispy and juicy and their blend of seasonings with every dish is just truly unique. It always gives me that 'home cooked meal after Church on a Sunday' vibe. I believe that's why I keep coming back! Thank you Lily and team for serving your delicious meals at the Foodie Feast today! These ladies (and Chef Budda) are all working on a truck so give them a little grace (aka be patient) when you make larger orders on the spot or simply choose the option to order ahead. Greatness can't be rushed y'all!

Um, wow! The mouthwatering pictures I've continuously scrolled through of Chef Buddha Soul Food does align with the deliciousness of their food! I attempted to visit when they are Downtown but couldn't seem to catch them, so you could imagine the excitement when they were a vendor at the SD Pride Festival! They had a real display of their creations at the table and focus on a few select but staple soul foods like chicken, mac and cheese, collard greens, etc. I was sharing with a friend that couldn't eat chicken, so we opted for their fried cauliflower instead and the mac and cheese as the side. The mac wasn't as creamy as I wanted for a Mac and cheese, but it was well seasoned and went great with some drops of hot sauce. I loved the batter on the cauliflower and I assumed that the chicken tenders would taste even better. The batter is extremely crunchy and with the cauliflower that tends to make breading soggy, it held up well. Hopefully I can catch them again because I am liking what I've tried so far!

The winner of today's meal was definitely the Mac n cheese. The shrimp and chicken were okay I didn't think it was anything special. Potatoe salad I didn't like but my husband did. I really enjoyed the cantaloupe juice , super refreshing but feels like I barely got any since there was so much ice.

The food looked like it was cooked in some old grease. It wasn't burnt, but it wasn't. The candied yams was not good at all, and the greens wasn't either.

After seeing this place pop up on Instagram, I gave it a follow to figure out where I could get a taste! It's a food truck that pulls up to various spots through out the week and the schedule is posted regularly on Instagram. They are frequently at the Pure Project in Bankers Hill. I got the shrimp and fish combo and my husband got the chicken tenders. It comes with two sides. I chose the mac and potato salad, while my husband got the beans and fries. They unfortunately didn't have the yams but we were pretty happy with what we got! The sides were the standouts. Surprisingly- the favorite was the beans! The fried items seem coated in cornmeal or have that grainy consistency. I wasn't expecting that for some reason but it was good. Overall, some pretty tasty comfort food!

I recently tried Chef Buddha's with high hopes, but unfortunately, my experience was disappointing from start to finish. Ordering Experience:First off, I was unable to place my order over the phone. The staff instructed me to order online, which was fine, but a location discrepancy turned into a significant inconvenience. Relying on iPhone Maps, I was directed to North Park, only to find out the restaurant, which turned out to be a food truck, was actually in Mira Mesa. This added unnecessary time to my trip, which was frustrating.Food:Given the wait and hassle, I was really hoping the food would be worth it, but it fell short. Wings and Tenders: I ordered two half-and-half meat options: 3 wings and 2 tenders, and 3 wings and 1 catfish. Unfortunately, everything was overly salty, and the texture was off--neither crispy nor tender as expected. The tenders were dry, and while the catfish was a bit crunchier, it was still too salty. Both options rate a 5/10 for me.- Sides:- Mac and Cheese with Gravy: The gravy overpowered the mac and cheese, making it an odd and unappealing combination. I'd give it a 5.5/10. - Greens: The greens lacked flavor and tasted like they hadn't been washed properly, with very little meat for seasoning. A disappointing 3/10. - Fries: The fries were tasty, but they lost their crispiness by the time I got home. Still, they were decent at 7.5/10. - Candied Yams: The yams were soft and sweet but slightly over-sweetened. A solid 7/10. - Mac Salad: The mac salad had an overpowering eggy flavor, which was not enjoyable. Another 5/10.Overall:We were excited to try Chef Buddha's, but the experience didn't live up to the hype. The combination of the location mix-up and the underwhelming food made it a less-than-satisfactory experience. Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend making the trip.
