Dropped in on a Sunday night for some sushi at this place. We found the sushi to be some of the most freshest we have experienced in Charlotte. Had to sit in the bar area which is where the entryway is. Not a great atmosphere, but we were grateful as we did not have reservations. That held it to a 4, hopefully next time we can experience the dining room area.

This is a cute little Asian fusion restaurant that has a very friendly staff. It is fairly priced for the area but I thought it was a little expensive for the size of the rolls. The fish on the rolls did not taste super fresh, it was not bad the did not have much flavor. The most disappointing item was the spicy Mayo. It was not your normal sushi restaurant spicy Mayo and had a very odd taste. Overall it was not bad but I probably wouldn't go back.

My hubby took me on a surprise low key birthday dinner and I mentioned I'd never tried this restaurant, so we came. We were greeted by our waitress, Ivy, and she was truly amazing. She gave us suggestions and she was right, the spider roll was great and it was my first time eating soft crab. She also suggested hibachi, so we ordered chicken and shrimp and it was very good. The ambiance was low key and chill. We were able to take leftovers home, but I definitely recommend this spot, especially for date night!

You can't go wrong with sushi! We came on a Saturday evening around 6:30 with no reservations (party of 2) and were sat immediately. It wasn't very busy at all, but apparently it can be more crowded during the week. I ordered the red hot roll and a classic salmon avocado roll. The seared tuna on the red hot roll was amazing. Both rolls were great and fresh. The manager was also very knowledgeable about the menu and could point me in the direction of gluten-free items (or how to tailor options accordingly). Would definitely come back!

Been here a few years back but did not post a review, but visit area periodically. First time was great. This visit, twice in a week, was also terrific. Sushi is amazing and drinks are on par. Staff is very knowledgeable, polite, and professional. Prices reasonable for quality. I highly recommend this place.

My husband and I stopped by Yama for lunch. We were seated quickly on the patio. We loved our waiter! We both ordered bento box lunch specials. They let me substitute a roll because I'm pregnant, which was so nice. The food came out quickly and was delicious. The lunch specials are a good price and value. We were in and out quickly which was perfect for lunchtime!

I so hate to drop my previous review by one star, but I will explain why.Yes, Yama has amazing sushi, some of the best I have had in Charlotte. However, my past three visits have been very disappointing when it comes to what I received. So, yes, I get the cost of everything has gone up over the last couple of years so I appreciate that Yama hasn't changed their prices, however, rather than increasing their prices they have downsized on their rolls. My go to order is the Morrison Roll, with several Nigiri, including Tuna (Maguro), Salmon, Crab, and Uni. The Nigiri is always fresh with just the perfect amount of rice. However, the Morrison Roll has shrunk, ha ha! It is so tiny these days yet still costs $16.00. I am not saying I will not continue to go, but hopefully they will be able to provide what they used to.One other side note, love their clear soup and ginger salad. Note: If you get the salad to go, order the ginger dressing on the side as it waters down the lettuce by the time you get it home.

Yama is a great restaurant to go to anytime. They have yummy food and they never seem to busy. The staff is also always friendly. The hardest part about Yama is the parking. Be courteous of those who live in the building and dont park in their designated spots.

I went to yummy Asian fusion with my parents after we wanted on South Park looking for some gifts. We all started out with a drink and really enjoyed them I had the pumpkin spice margarita which was honestly so yummy and my mom had the pear martini what she really enjoyed. We started out with brussels sprouts and the shumai which are shrimp dumplings. The brussels sprouts were so yummy they were super crunchy with a good amount of balsamic vinegar. We shared five rolls and my favorite by far was the crazy tuna. We also got Niigata, pink lady, lake Norman, and downtown rolls. I didn't really love the pink lady (wouldn't get again) and the others were ok. Overall, I would come back try some other rolls and get the Brussels again!

To qualify the below review of this, the Southpark location.... I've been going to Yama Waverly for 7 years (5-stars, go there. It's always wonderful). Often getting takeout twice a month. Total, well over 50 visits between lunching in, dining in and takeout. We always order these same 4 items that will be discussed below....always those 4 at a minimum. Today, we ordered takeout from the Southpark Yama, as we live up here now. They were not busy. It was not near opening and it was not near close. Service for calling in order and pickup was wonderful and friendly. 1. Brussels sprouts: bunt - too bitter. Couldn't eat more than 2 bits. Into the trash. 2. Hamachi Kama: overly dried out and burnt - very bitter. Picked around the burnt... not really a pleasant eat. Also, why on a bed of shredded lettuce. It was wilted, slimy and gross from the heat. 3. Veggie Udon: Inedible - WAY too smokey. Everything was so overcooked it was not at all pleasant. Shiitake and asparagus was an exciting surprise to see; Waverly doesn't add them. Shiitake couldn't be chewed and asparagus ends that normally end up in trash were included. Straight into the trash. 4. Yama Bowl: Saucy and weird. Rice wasn't good and seemed old. We just ate the fish and threw out the rest. It's confusing since the Waverly location is ALWAYS consistent. This location got everything wrong. Both from a culinary 101 standpoint and coming the least bit close to their flagship operation in Waverly. It was like they are not affiliated whatsoever. If you made it this far. Baku in Southpark, same ownership, if I recall correctly - IS absolutely the best place to get sushi in Charlotte.
