The Tin Trout

Tiffany and Co. would have leased this town like it did many of the mines in this area because this place is a GEM! I can see why everyone recommended it, and we saw many of the same cars parked outside every day. The service seemed to be stretched both times we went, but it was still an enjoyable experience.Skillet Cornbread- Small skillet of cornbread covered in butter and hot honey. Very fluffy cornbread, flavorful, and Crumbley.Carolina Poutine - The flavors were delicious. The fries were a little soggy, and the curds were more melted than I would have expected. The flavors themselves were delicious and rich.Crossnore Corn Hushpuppies- The Hushpuppies were the sleeper. Local corn, crispy and hot, with a wonderful a pickled veggie kind of topping served on the side and called "chow chow"Shrimp & Grits - The best shrimp and grits I've had to date. The grits are ground from corn from the next town over. The Shrimp were cooked wonderfully, the veggies were fresh, and the rich buttery sauce really completed it.I unfortunately always left too full to complete a meal with a dessert. But everything sounded great on the list. If you're within an hour of here, put this place on your list, and get there early.

So thankful they have opened back up after their devastation from the hurricane. The food was exceptional tonight. The corn hush puppies were great and I also highly recommend the Smash burger with their house made bacon jam!!!

One of the best meals I have ever had---AND I never had a trout filet before! Delicious, especially when starting with amazing hush puppies accompanied by glazed carrots, sweet potato fries, fried green tomatoes and great friends. Tasty cocktails too, awesome decor and friendly service!

Sooo good. The cornbread and hot honey appetizer were delicious. The Pesto Pasta with blackened shrimp was fabulous! Feel free to bring your own wine! Linville Falls Winery is right down the road!

What a find! We hiked the nearby Linville Falls earlier in the day with my daughter and her husband who were visiting from KC. After the hike, we were famished and stumbled upon this rare gem. I cannot wait to go back! Everyone was so pleasant and the food was beyond tasty! It should be renamed The TASTY Trout! There's a quaint little gift shop as you enter with local art, prints, souvenirs. The restaurant is set just off the road and a babbling creek runs right by it. So cute and welcoming. Hostess was so pleasant and we were seated right away. The menu was pretty expansive for such a small place - and it had something for everyone. Trout is the main theme, so I ordered the fresh (smoked) Trout salad (see photos). I devoured it. Highly recommend. Photo doesn't do it justice. Fresh baby greens, perfect type and amount of dressing. Read the attached description....! So good! Yum yum yum. Son in law ordered a shrimpPo boy and it looked delicious, which he said it was. Daughter got a wedge salad and husband ordered trout plate. Everyone was quite happily satiated! We also ordered the poutine fries - as an appetizer - and they were also prepared perfectly! I just wish this restaurant was closer to home - but please consider it if you're out in the area, going to or from Linville Falls or the winery that is also nearby! We plan to make this a regular stopwhen we have out of town visitors, after hiking the Falls. Just GO!

Outstanding is the only way to describe this place. Best grill trout I've ever had. Small place that stays packed. Gave to get there early to avoid a long wait. Very popular place in middle of nowhere.

What a gem! We ran across the Tin Trout as we were meandering around the area and had no idea what to expect but knew that if the parking lot was full it had to be good. You're greeted by a cute entrance and a friendly hostess. We had to wait a couple of minutes but no big deal. Our server was super friendly and the service was great. I love a place that has a good daily specials board. Everything sounded delicious and as good as the chicken and waffles sounded I had to try the trout, after all, it's what is special about the area. They bring a complimentary serving of pickled cucumbers packed with flavor. I knew this was a good indication that the rest of the meal would be tasty. We started with a cup of corn chowder served piping hot, which was a blessing on this cold day, with a huge handful of saltine crackers. The chowder was delicious and very creamy, with potatoes and some veggies added to the mix. It was almost like the inside of a chicken pot pie without the chicken. Following the chowder was their smoked trout pasta carbonara which was out of this world and rich in flavor. Always check for thier specials on the board and make sure that they are open for the season before you head over.You wont be dissapointed.

I was here with my family 2 years ago and I hate to admit the quality & service was excellent the first time. This time, the quality seemed diminished and while the service staff were friendly everyone seemed in a hurry ... zipping away before we could ask for things.The wings were great. The meatloaf, the smoked trout & the fried fish (both fish were very small portions) and were all just 'so-so'. Disappointing at these prices. Plus it was just packed to the gills and everything felt rushed. We won't be back.

Wonderful lunch experience; service was attentive and the suggestions made were excellent; will definitely return when we're in NC again
