The Hot Dog King

Straight forward roadside lunch spot in south Asheville. Ordered a house special dog (chili, onions, mustard) and a jumbo all beef with slaw, onions, mustard. A side of steak fries and a root beer. While the house special dog felt a bit tasteless and mushy with only a smear of mustard which would have been nicer in greater proportion given the less than appealing dog underneath..., the all beef jumbo did not disappoint. Snappy exterior, flavorful, juicy interior and toppings that were well matched.I will return, move around the menu a bit and see about a few other staples like the chicken and bologna sandwiches. I'm sure my teenage roommate will want a few samples from the burger side of the menu as well.I will return.

Great chili dogs. Love this place. Have to stop every time I head to Asheville reminds me of when I was a kid

Stopped in for a quick bite and was impressed by the super fast service and a nice bun to meat ratio on their classic.

I'm from California and saw this place on yelp and decided to stop and try this place out. I was not disappointed. First off the hospitality was top notch. They were so friendly and right away answered any questions I had and recommended items for me to try. Unfortunately I'm not a huge onion or slaw lover, so I declined although I did get advice to try the sausage and I'm so glad I did. I had a sausage dog with mustard and shredded cheese. The bun was toasted and the sausage had a little snap which made it perfect. Mustard was not overpowering and the cheese was just enough. For a side I chose the tater tots. I mean come on why wouldn't I. I also had the fried pickles which came with ranch dressing. Now I don't know what voodoo magic they are frying with but nothing was greasy and they had a lite batter to it so it did not overwhelm. Inside they have tables and a restroom so you can eat inside. All in all I would be back so if you're in the area, stop by and give it a try.

The Hot Dog King has one of the best Gyro sandwiches in the area. It's a greasy spoon spit: that is spot on. Prices are more than good, staff is friendly and accommodating. A great hole in the wall spot. So good I went back twice on the same day.

Best damn onion rings EVER! Cheryl and I each had a foot-long hotdog with a shared order of 50/50 ( half fries/half onion rings). Not only were the onion rings the best I've ever eaten; the hot dogs were amazing as well!

I have been here a few times and the food has always been good. I normally get the hotdogs but today I decided to try their burgers. I ordered a double cheeseburger, fries, and a drink that came out to over $14. . The burger wasn't bad but wasn't worth $14. I think I will stick with the hotdogs for now on.

Looks like they had a change of ownership. Still pretty good food, but not as good as it once was.
