For years I've been a fan of the Gantt Center! I recently got to come by and check out a Wednesday night live Jazz event with Harvey Cummings. He's one of my fav local musicians and this was a free/donation event. The cool part was they hosted it inside one of the exhibit rooms, so you got be listen to awesome live jazz and peruse art. It was divine! There was standing room only as this event filled up fast and I stood right in the back and enjoyed myself.I highly recommend this museum on any day, but definitely for a jazz night surrounded by beautiful art in Uptown!!

What an amazing experience at the Gantt center for African American Art. I was in NC and was told about the museum and decided to check it out. They do have discounts for educators and students. I was able to view several different featured galleries they had in display. I would totally recommend stopping by if you're in the area.

Visited during my 2023 birthday trip to CLT. This is a must-visit if you are a local or visiting. At the time of my visit, they had 3 featured exhibits: My Presence is Present, Kennedi Carter: Sight Unseen and lastly Post-Traumatism: In Search of Freedom. The artwork is breathtaking. Definitely check out the center.

**3.4** I feel I am being very generous with this extra star. I am reviewing (2) things Yoga on the Rooftop and the museum itself.Met up on the top floor, next to the rooftop, not on the actual roof. No explanations no real guidance on why we weren't outside on rooftop. Our instructor started right on time. No big introductions, just right into the flow. I will say the class is a little more of an immediate class because of how swiftly he would go. It was a good stretch though. Tried some new positions. I ended up enjoyed myself. However, I doubt I would return. After yoga, we went to check out the museum itself.Impressive building looks fairly new. Lots of space, not a lot of art to be seen. A huge lobby and a huge conference/theatre/projector room. Overall, I feel there is a lot of wasted space and we could add a few more pieces for others to see.Museum is located in a very nice area in uptown Charlotte. No street parking for a couple of blocks. There is a parking deck in the JW Marriott building across the street

Had such an amazing time at the Art After Dark: Imitating Life. The vibe was so chill and was good to be around like mindedness people want to take all the culture in. Can't wait for that next one!!!! And even more!!!!

Attended a Black History on Canvas workshop this afternoon. Artist, Michelle "Bunny" Gregory led the class. We were asked to bring a pre-drawn canvas featuring powerful symbols that represent Black history, triumph, and peace. The assignment was to bring our own unique perspective to our interpretation of the importance of Black History Month. We were also asked to include an inspirational quote, from a prominent African American icon, that resonates with us.Some followed the rules. Many didn't;But I think we all still had fun. The event lasted two hours. Some had pre-drawn images. Others painted free style. Some painted from stencils. I didn't see many with an inspirational quote. When coming here, the parking deck is across the street from the center; not the one attached to the building. That was very confusing since there are 3 parking decks all within a single block. The instructor didn't give an introduction of herself or relay any information about her work. However she did have an assistant. For those that hadn't painted before, they didn't learn techniques about colors or shading because we didn't get tips; but we all had fun. I felt the event could have done more to created a vibrant experience. Even if it was just light music.

The art museum is an impressive building. I was a bit surprised how little art was actually in it; three moderately sized rooms and the interjoining hallways were all that was open. There seemed to be ample conference space, but for a museum that charges for entry there wasn't a ton of actual museum. The collection varied wildly in my estimation. Some pieces grabbed the eyes, while others made me roll them. And yet, the notion of devoting a painting to the life experience of quitting one's job at a T-Mobile store seemed more trenchant as I thought about it, such an easily overlooked experience. It also reminded me that T-Mobile's nationwide network can fail to provide even a single bar virtually anywhere in that nation in my experience.Moving on, there were things that were compelling and unique to be worth looking at, but staying for a half hour would be a long visit based on me and the people around me.

I recently attended a Zeta Phi Beta evening event at the HBG Center in Uptown Charlotte. This location was a great backdrop for a chill but dressy sneaker ball fundraiser. The different floors featured a wide variety of art, and the ambience was perfect.

The Gantt is a gem! It is an excellent museum with exhibits and programming featuring African American art and culture. I've attended several exhibitions and a Jazz series. My husband and I recently attended the Classic Black Cinema Series. They also have other programming and workshops, such as yoga and dance. Visit! It's fantastic, from the architectural setting to the programming.
