If you get a chance I recommend visiting The Godmother of Soul Food. This is some of the best home cooked food from a restaurant. I was very impressed with the amount of food given and the taste. Everything was seasoned perfectly. You definitely will not be disappointed. Service is a little slow but the owner stated, food is cooked to order, it's worth the wait. She also stated you can call it in and have it ready for done in when you arrive. I'll definitely be back.

One of my go to soul food places! Everything is so good! I always get the fried chicken, mac and cheese and rice and gravy. I would suggest ordering ahead of time because you may wait a while but it is worth the wait! Desserts are really good as well. I love this place, and the owner is really nice!

In the new location across of UNCG Police station she is one in her element now. She has the space to operate and the patrons have room to sit and enjoy the food. It's flavorful and cooked with love. We've been coming here for a year now and have no complaints. She made need to add staff soon bc with her being on college territory the demand is going to increase ALOT! If you want real soul food this is the spot for you!!!

The food here is absolutely DELICIOUS!!!!! Nuff said. I wish I could get some more of those turkey wings. Please!!! Keep cooking. Everything is from scratch and this lady cooks from the soul.

The food was really good, the portions could be bigger, the fish is perfect but the wait was waaaay to long, order before you go and sad to say that you may be waiting too- mac and cheese was good

You won't eat here for the ambiance. You order at the counter, there's no wait staff, seating very limited, food served in to go containers, BUT don't let that deter you, really. It's FLAVORFUL. I typically get the fish plate, which is made to order and it never disappoints. My opinion, the sides are small portions for the overall meal price. The quality is consistent; although there was a dip with taste on my last visit, which was surprising (it just didn't pack the standard punch). However, that visit is not the cause of the 3-star rating. The wait! OMG, It's excessively long to be reasonable even with a call in order, we still waited 25 additional mins. It appears to be standard practice considering my other past visits, bummer. Hopefully, the Godmother will work on how to pick things up w/o impacting quality. When time allows, I may consider returning.

I ordered Mac and cheese and turkey wings Mac and cheese was too salty and the noodles were too mushy for me

I have tried going to this place 5 times in the last 2 weeks and they are either out of something or there's a 2 hour wait. I never even got to try the food. You can't even call in because don't answer the phone and they switch their hours up randomly. They seriously need to make some changes and become professional.
