Ted's Kickin Chicken

I read about Ted's Kickin Chicken in a cookbook: North Carolina Back Road Restaurant Recipes. It recommended the Chicken Fried Steak, but that was not on the menu on our visit. This restaurant is on a back road and it is bigger inside than it appeared from the road, but the place was full on Friday at 1 pm. The parking lot is sizeable, but I got the last spot. It is in a gravel lot, so no real "lines" to follow. When we walked in, I couldn't tell if it was seat yourself or wait to be seated. We asked the hostess, who found us a table, but just pointed to it, so I'm still not certain. The food was hit-and-miss for us. The fried half chicken that they had on special was excellent. It came drizzled with a special sauce, which I dipped the chicken into as I pulled it off of the bone. It came with baked beans and potato salad. Both were ok, but didn't taste particularly homemade. The fried chicken is the star here and should not be missed.We had fried pickles for appetizers and they were fine, if not a little oily. They were in a sort of tempura batter and served with a yummy ranch dressing. We did enjoy them.The kids had chicken tenders and chicken tender sandwiches. These were very underwhelming and looked like they were made from frozen tenders, not hand-breaded. These were fine, just not as delicious as the chicken they fried themselves.I can mark this one off my list. I may be back again, but would probably try other spots first.

Always great food and service! Wish there would be a little bit more to the menu but still delicious no matter what you get!

I've always wanted to try it because it says kickin chicken. Tonight I finally did and now there's no going anywhere else for chicken. It's that good. Even the white meat is juicy. Mouth watering. To die for. The sauce is really, really, really good. The guy who took our take out order was friendly, polite, fast. The prices are seriously reasonable. There was plenty of tables; plenty of staff; room to park. We loved the laid-back atmosphere and the music they were playing. I'm going back and taking friends ... You should, too.

You see that girl in that first photo there? Yeah, that is me sippin' sweet tea at Ted's. Okay so we were driving to Yadkin Valley and it was lunch time. I wanted some southern fried chicken because well.. that is what the south is known for, yes? We were looking at places listed on the GPS. Who would NOT want to go to a joint named Ted's Kickin' Chicken? First impressions when we drove by this place and MISSED the parking lot? It looked desolate... dingy even. Anyway, we turned around, I held my breath and we walked in. Dimly lit place, Nascar decor and football playing on the television that was propped up on the corner back wall.We ordered accordingly- my friend a dark meat chopped chicken sandwich that was topped with a mayo based slaw and a slightly spicy sauce on the side. The sandwich was freaking ginoromous. I do not typically use such language... but that is how huge it was. I ordered a half fried chicken. I know it sounds like a lot.. but lets put it this way.. I was expecting the chicken to be cut up like the breast, thigh and leg. It literally was a half chicken. I thought it was going to be a breaded chicken. It was breaded... but extrememly lightly which I was fine with. What kind of threw me was it was dipped in a sauce that resembled buffalo sauce. It was tasty, do not get me wrong, just not what I was expecting at all. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed the sauce it was dipped in, and this half chicken thing was actually just enough. It was a small half chicken. The half chicken was really cheap though.Overall, the food was fine. Portions were large, prices were low. Not your typical fried chicken that I thought you'd experience in North Carolina, but it was a nice change.

So I pop on to 'Teds Kickin Chicken' to pick up an order of 25 hot wings. I get home with only two tiny cups of ranch for dipping and no celery or napkins. I called, to ask if that was standard as I usually get more stuff at other places. The chick on the phone said, "We're not other places." Then hung up on me. A paying customer. I'll give you one guess as to who will never see me darken their doorstep again.Staff is rude. Food is overpriced.

Amazing chicken wings and fries. Don't expect something fancy or the fastest service but love the food.

The very best chicken I ever eaten my life! I heard about this place for years decided to come up to it with my wife. We both ordered a half a chicken I had beans and french fries with my meal. It was outstanding. I don't know what sauce this chicken is cooked in Lord have mercy Is it great!!!! Service was fast about 5 mins meals in front of us, can you get any better... I sure don't think so!!!Will return for sure!!!

The chicken is amazing and moist! I am so happy with the "regular" flavor, but my family members are in love with the "hot" and "suicide" flavors.

Horrible experience, started out as soon as we walked in. The waitress asked how many I jokingly said 2 and 1/2 because we have a 1 year old in a car seat. She said we'll just pick a seat with an attuide but I tried to explain I was waiting for my husband and she just walked away . We get seated and another waitress comes up, rushes us to order drinks and food. We had to ask for more time twice! We finally just ordered something. When she comes back to the table she tries to refill my tea that I hadn't even taken a sip of! We hurry and eat because we had stuff to do. So my husband goes and pays. While he's paying I asked two different waitresses for something else to drink because I finally tried the tea and it was no sweet what so ever and tasted old! 1 of them brings me back a lid and straw and the other one says yes she will get me a Dr pepper but instead comes back with our dessert and tells me that even though my husband and I just spent 80 bucks at this restaurant that I would have to pay for the drink. Even though I took one small sip from the tea! The music was so loud you couldn't hear anyone! Each waitress was rude! Very unhappy! Im gonna try to get in touch with the owner!Also I had to clean our table because the waitress wouldn't!We had even just bought one of their hoodies trying to support a small business. I never complain because sometimes people just have a bad day but this was bull!​

This place has went down hill. The woman who runs it is hateful the wait staff I had told us we would be better off going somewhere else.
