Sunday, 1/14/24, my friends and I decided to dine in at this facility. Granted, I come here often, usually with different people despite having had some not so great experiences, I've continued to come and support this local business. That ends today. I will not waste my hard earned money at a business whose food is mediocre, managers are unprofessional, and staff lacks communication and customer service skills. As for ambiance, the location could use a good cleaning and new dishes, nothing too terrible to take away from grabbing a quick, or not so quick in our cases, bite.Upon greeting our table, the waitress- Gabby- greeted us by letting us know that she wasn't our waitress; she was only taking our drink orders to help out our actual waitress. Drinks were ordered and brought to the table wrong. She apologized, we were cool; it happens. After several minutes pass, Gabby returns and proceeds to take our food order; I guess she would be our waitress The four of us place our orders: vegetable yakisoba- spicy, bento box with a side of mixed veggies, Penang curry- no rice- and a side of spicy cabbage, and lastly, fried rice with only egg and diced onions. (I ordered the yakisoba.)My friend who ordered the chicken fried rice with diced onions and egg had a detailed conversation where she expressed she ONLY ate diced onions, and asked if this were possible. Gabby assured her that she understood and the diced onions would be no problem.. Gabby was off to the kitchen to put in the order. Nearly an hour passed, which we had patience with as Gabby came over once to refill drinks and replace drinks- there was something floating in the half and half. We were all still calm and patient. She let us know our food should be out soon. When the food finally arrived 3/4 of the orders were wrong. No one complained, we simply let Gabby know what our issues were. (I.e.: the veggie Yakisoba came out all veggies, no noodles; the fried rice had sliced strips of onions not diced ones; and the Penang curry with no rice and a side of spicy cabbage came out all mixed together as an entree and a side of rice- which of course is no issue, who doesn't enjoy extra food? The point in me adding this was either the kitchen didn't pay attention to Gabby or Gabby didn't pay attention to the orders.) Gabby said "she wasn't sure what was going on, the kitchen was blank and had a moment". My Yakisoba was fixed, I was grateful. The issue was the chicken fried rice was put back on the grill to dice the onions but the rice was extra hard and re-fried. My friend let Gabby know that she was grateful that the onions were semi diced; it's just at this point, the rice was all too hard. She no longer wanted the food and did not eat it. At this point Gabby was very nervous and lacked communication about said requests. She assured the table that she let the kitchen know about the diced onions, she'd bring the tickets, and let the manager know about our tables' issues. Needless to say, a manager never came over. I paid for my meal via the cash app option and was sure to tip Gabby. Being in the service industry I understand that tips are a blessing and based off of service, which she wasn't the best and definitely not the worst. I was grateful for the service she did provide. At the register, the fried rice could not be taken off of my friend's ticket because there was no manager. Gabby told us to hold on because she was going to talk to the "serving manager" who never came over and addressed us at all. Gabby let my friend know nothing could be done because the manager wasn't there.I've never experienced such cluelessness regarding a situation. I stepped in and asked Gabby if my friend was still being charged for a meal that was left on the table barely touched beyond the bites revealing the refried rice. Gabby said yes, she would be charged and let me know a manager would be in later; I could leave my number and she'd have a manager give me a call. This is what upset me: the manager calls, and it was a woman who asked me what was going on. I proceed to explain the situation- I was put on a brief hold and a man gets on the phone claiming to be the manager. I re-explain the situation, which he said he was aware of. I hear discussion in the background and laughing. At the end of the day there was never an apology, simply arguing and disputing of facts- it was a joke to the staff.

When Sushi Dojo opened in Shelby, I believe it was 2005, it was the place to go. I was here the first day they were open. Superior food and awesome atmosphere. It looks they moved from the original location at the end of the strip mall or just expanded. I was visiting Shelby and decided to go down memory lane. Big mistake. Should have just kept a good memory. The food was lacking flavor. No, it was horrible. There's a table with cleansers next to our booth and the kitchen garbage adjacent. The fish taco was dry and had no flavor.the fried shrimp was 6 inches long. It must have been minced. The place was definitely "Shelbyfied". Reduced to nothing more than a disappointment. The restaurant had class, the elite came here for cocktails in the evening. The floor is covered with debris.

We made plans to go with my stepdaughter and grandson, but she wasn't feeling well and had to cancel. I had already viewed the online menu and was excited about it. We decided to make the trek from Charlotte to Shelby, in Friday rush hour traffic. So glad we did. Everything was delicious, but my favorite was the Squid Salad and Takoyaki (squid balls). I didn't even get to my sashimi, I was so full. And to top it off, our Server, Dakota was so pleasant and attentive. I had a little fun with her on pronunciation of dishes, but she was a good sport about it, and by the end of the night she was a pro at pronouncing Takoyaki! What a delightful evening out. So worth the trip

It was not the best but the food was ok when we finally did receive it. The drinks were mediocre. I've never been to a place where it was an hour and 15 before anyone received any food. Only my husband ate alone then after he was done our food came trickling out. It was affordable and that's the best I can give

After a delightful Sunday service, my mother, friends and I decided to have dinner here after a long while of visiting. The last time I came here some years ago I did not have the issue I am about to divulge. We walked in and were serviced rather quickly, always a plus! It wasn't super busy but we could tell staffing was a bit low at the moment. The atmosphere was decent nothing too exciting but good for where we were! We were very patient and understanding while we waited. Finally someone from the wait staff named Gabby came by and said she would be taking our drink orders but she is not our waitress. She went off for our drinks and came back with incorrect drink order which was rectified. Eventually she ended up taking our food order despite the information we were given, no worries there! While we waited on our food we noticed there was something floating in the tea given to my mother, which prompted me to check my tea. My sweet tea also had something floating in it, so we had them changed out; I did not trust it so I got water. Our food finally comes out during our mingling and majority of the food was incorrect. We ordered vegetable yakisoba (spicy), a bento box with a side of vegetables, fried rice with just egg and diced onions and the Penang curry (w/o rice). My mother ordered the fried rice and asked if diced onions was something they could do as she does not eat julienned/sliced onions. Gabby confirmed that it was doable and shouldn't be a problem at all. When our food came out the yakisoba (this is a noodle dish) came without noodles, the penang curry came with rice (we are not complaining about extra food), and lastly my mother's rice had non diced onions. To top it all off, the shrimp in my bento box were NOT clean, but I went around it and ate everything else in the box. We sent back the fried rice as she was told it could be corrected. When it arrived back to the table it had been "diced" by tossing it all back on the grill and chopping it up leaving the rice hard and unenjoyable. My mother took a bite and couldn't get through the rest. She left behind the entire plate of food and we told her to get a manager involved. She chose to pursue to pay but we asked for a manager for her. We waited at the front for someone to come as the person in the front just stared at us, soon Gabby came. We asked if there was a manager and we were told there was not one there she got the person who as technically in charge (the person who sat and stared at us waiting to pay). She was told her order could not be refunded so we asked could we leave a contact number for a manager. Two managers spoke with one of our friends about the situation and I was informed they were rude, laughing and mishandled the situation. She also was told" you got lucky that you got diced onions because we only slice them here." Even though her onions were not sliced in the Yakisoba I digress. As a Chef, customer service expert and consumer this definitely lacked professionalism and care. If a customer is paying, patient, more than understanding and never rude why not take care of them? If the food was not eaten it should have been taken off after it was sent back one time. Mind you one of my friends tipped regardless of her many bad experiences at this particular location. Needless to say I will not be back here and neither will my friends and mother.-Signed,Sunnyy

Can I just start by saying, the food was delicious, as always, which is why I'm willing to deal with the poor welcoming I received this evening -- the hostess was so sweet once she realized that I had been overlooked and completely ignored for the better half of 5 minutes while a server, WHO WATCHED ME WALK IN, completely IGNORED ME & disregarded my presence but had time to STOP BY THE hostess stand and talk about how she now weighed 122lbs with another server... whom also did not even once acknowledge me -- the other servers were actually busy serving and not cleaning, so I didn't expect them to stop and greet me. Once I spoke up about it, the hostess even tried to blame herself (she was in the back getting to go orders together and as soon as she saw me she stopped everything and came straight over) .. but I just want to say, EVERYONE is able to greet a customer at a restaurant, not just the hostess! *done ranting*Service: Hostess: pleasant and graceful, multitasking Server: Alex -- charismatic & attentive. Even though my entrance was less than welcoming, she didn't miss a moment to share a kitchen mistake with my table to make it right -- thank you Alex, for turning this 1star into a 4star!Food: Rainbow Roll: my go to, everything is always fresh and delicious with it and tonight the wasabi was extra crispy 10/10Side of Steak: PERFECTLY COOKED & SEASONED, great for low-iron days! 10/10 Hate My In-laws Roll: tasty, different than what I usually order (prefer cold) but the salmon was perfectly flakey inside with just the right amount of cream cheese. The eggs on top, my bff wasn't a fan off but I love them -- nothing was over cooked or too greasy, might actually order this again! My only recommendation is that the sauce that comes with the honeymoon app be added on the side 8/10 Honeymoon App: not pictured because I always order it, eat it in 3 minutes, and it's always delicious! 10/10Overall 8/10 recommend & if you try this place, encourage the servers to smile!

We really like eating here most of the time. Food is good and the people are nice. Sometimes they are just a little slow so it would be nice to eat faster.

The service was definitely substandard. A waitress was not very knowledgeable about the menu. The sake menu is horrible. They seem way more interested in there to go business than they do the actual customers that showed up. The rice for the sushi rolls was not top quality and everything was just sort of bland.
