One of the coolest dive bars in east Charlotte! Great local and friendly crowd. They also have pool tables!

Some people love this place. I am a dive bar fan myself, but I just can't get into it, even though some of the same patrons from elsewhere are there for convo. Could be the underground grave feeling and/or the lack of ventilation and lighting in the dark, seedy cancer pit that they call a patio. Not sure. Service is fine... some days. Others, takes 30 minutes to even get the bartender behind the bar.Overrated IMHO, but if you must visit every dive bar, it's on the list.

I'm just gonna agree with Ben F.'s review. I really don't think I should be the one to let the cat out of the bag here.

Want to take a break from the over-illuminated trendster bars in the QC? Had enough of insufferable CLT scenesters? Looking to impress no one? Just desiring to drink in peace? The answer to all 4 is the most Bukowski-esque bar in Charlotte: Surf Inn, started in '76 as a 19th hole by a golfer. Set in a semi-subterranean, dated-townhome-looking office complex on North Sharon Amity (this aint SouthPark), you may think you've been pranked. (Note: It reads 'Surf Club' on the nondescript directory sign.) Tell her the psecret psociet told ya - might get a discount on your psixth one.

Surf Club is the most laid back, chill vibe, good energy dive bars I've ever visited. I live 2 counties away from the bar and I still love coming here. The bar tenders, the owner, and the regular are why I can't get enough of this place. They make you feel so welcomed with a family type atmosphere. My most favorite thing about Surf is the Saturday night Karaoke. I love to sing and be around music lovers. This is a fun place to release all the stresses of the week and just enjoy yourself. I highly recommend this place to anyone who just wants a chill but fun environment, not too crowded or noisy type place to hang out. Mature environment as well. No drama.

The Surf inn is one of the best dive bars I've ever been to. Lots of interesting people and friendly atmosphere! Best drinks in town and the best prices. A true Charlotte treasure if you can find it.

Larry (owner) is a fun guy and holds down the bar tending job a good bit of the time, his other tenders are better looking though. The Surf is a small place tucked out of the way in, what I would call, the cellar. You climb and few steps, then descend to the bottom floor of the busness bldg. If you don't want to be found, this is the watering hole to visit. Most of the bar flies are locals and regulars. You do have to be a member or a quest to enjoy the Mixed Drinks and beer. Darts are the focal point of the place alone with viewing your favorite sport on the big screen TV.The Surf Inn opens about 3 pm most days and I usually can find one of my cronies at the bar, but don't expect a a crowd because 25 people will jam the Surf.
