Not only are the sandwiches and soups delicious, the crew are friendly and kind. Even though I visit there less than a month at a time, they know me by name and greet me upon entry.I recommend them most highly.

Probably best place to eat lunch in town. Affordable, quick, generous portion. Half sandwich with a side of soup or pasta salad is plenty. Everything on the menu looks good. There is a fee to use credit card.

We love this place. It's been here for 40ish years, and is a Statesville Staple. Plenty of parking on the street or in the BoA lot next door. It's clean and cute inside. The building is deeper than it looks (bigger in the inside!) and has plenty of seating. They are super fast but everything is made to order, so you might have to wait. Good sized menu, with just about every combo of sub & sandwich you can think of. Drinks are either bottle or fountain. Everyone raves about their pasta salad and I have to agree. It is definitely the best I've had (that wasn't my own). It's so popular that you can find it here in ready to go portions, or at small, local shops that sell food.

This restaurant has been in the heart of Downtown Statesville since 1980, in other words, I've been eating here since I was a kid and it was here long before there was a Subway, Jersey Mike's or Groucho's Deli in town! It is a staple for native Statesvillians and it's a part of this town's history! Sub Express is an original restaurant created by a Statesville resident, so don't expect the same food or service that you're served in other deli restaurants, it's really like comparing apples to oranges! My favorite sandwich from Sub Express is the Chicken Salad on a Croissant Roll! This sammie is the longstanding Friday Special! This special is served as a "meal deal" with their classic Pasta Salad and a drink. I always get their Sweet Tea with my combo, it is the BEST tea in town! The Chicken Salad is simply delicious with nice bite-size chunks of tender chicken meat in a creamy sauce, might be just mayo BUT it sure doesn't taste like it! When you couple this creamy Chicken Salad with a fresh, buttery, soft and flaky Croissant Roll, you've got yourself a wonderful flavor match! There's just something about the two together that brings out the best in the other. The Pasta Salad is another creation from the original Sub Express owner/creator that has stood the test of time! This pasta salad starts with tri-color pasta and adds in some tiny pieces of fresh, chopped broccoli and cauliflower before marinating it in another creamy sauce which is definitely NOT just mayonnaise. This creamy sauce has a tangy zip to it, along with a garlicky punch! Best part is, you can grab a container large or small "to-go" for later and trust me, you'll be glad you did! The longer it marinates, the better it gets!Over the years, I have tried many of the other menu options and they are all good! Sub Express has a nice salad bar, too! Desserts can vary (like a daily special) but there are typically fresh baked cookies available everyday. Also, it is one of the only restaurants in town where you can get a Diet Sunkist (my SO's favorite!). Sub Express can get very busy at times, so keep this is mind if you're in a hurry or on a time schedule. Statesville loves Sub Express and we appreciate that their food is made to order! Therefore, we expect to wait for ALL the goodness we know we will have in our near future! Thank you Sub Express for your 40+ years of serving Statesville! Here's to 40 more!! #supportsmallbusiness #eatlocal #shoplocal

Well this place was a nice surprise. The decor is confused and sound from 3 tvs is annoying but the sub was the best I've had in 30 years.

For the time, I'll have to rate them with just 2 stars but willl be back because there is promise.Went here for lunch today which was my first time. Looking for a sandwich to go so I could take it back to my office for a quick lunch at my desk. The way it works is you walk in and get in line, place your order, pick up your order and either take it with you or pick a table. Much like a typical Subway experience. Not that well organized so the line moves slowly. I ordered a Toasted Reuben which since I am a Reuben fan, was a natural fit.Picked up my sandwich and went back to the office. The sandwich was large and the break was great with a good hint of caraway. Meat on the otherhand, while generous was bland and had very little if any flavor. Sour Kraut had no crunch and devoid of the sharp contract in flavors that makes a Reuben great.I've had better but looking around, this may have been a bad day and not characteristic so I'm willing to give it another shot. Menu is more extended than most, very popular so in most cases they must be doing something right, might like other menu selections better, etc. We'll see

Its conveniently located right in front of the college so it makes for a great lunch spot however the the food is extremely mediocre (has its good days, has its bad days depending on who's prepping your sub) and I think some days I could make a better sandwich at my house. It's also a little difficult to even want to go here when they have places like Groucho's nearby. They have a lot of competition because of a lot of other places having different types of sandwiches and unique options with better quality meats.Sub Express is a little pricey for what they serve. They are somewhat busy most of the time but I think its honestly Because they've built a presence in Statesville (they've been around awhile so many elders stick to their guns and come here).

So I stopped in today for some lunch, I've hadn't been here till today and probably won't be back. I had a "steak and cheese" at least that's what I think it was, is was really bad. It was basically mystery meat on a bun. It wasn't grilled or anything, kinda reminded me of the frozen steak um meat from the grocery store. 2 layers of flat meat. The cookie was good tho. But that's about it. I can't speak to their other sandwiches but I hope they are better!
