I'm home for the holidays, and my family and I stopped in for dinner and the food was delicious. It was so nostalgic! I'm sure with all of the "BBQ restaurants" out here and now that everyone is a "Pit Master" this place will be called out, as not as being good or great BBQ, but after 93 years and still counting some of the new BBQ restaurants don't have the staying power as a Stamey's! I've been eating at Stamey's since I was a child, and I'm very biased when it comes to comparing foods outside of NC to my local favs. I say all of that to say, Stamey's may not be for everyone, but I still love it. Now, on to the food. The hot dog was just as I remembered ("The Bomb") and the "Q" and BBQ Slaw was delicious, and the crinkle fries was hot and fresh out of the grease. It felt so good to be home the service was great, food was just as I remembered, and it was nice and chill inside! It's definitely one of those restaurants that is a staple here in Greensboro, and a must try. No frills, just sit down and enjoy some good ole NC BBQ.

If you have dietary restrictions and want BBQ, Stamey's is the place for you! No flavor or seasoning to be found. Just bland. I didn't take a picture because why? Years ago I enjoyed Stamey's for what it was and if I'm not mistaken they were a little more tastier back then. I ordered the combo plate with sliced pork and 1/4 chicken with Mac and cheese and collard greens as the side. The greens are can, the Mac and cheese is watery. Sadly, Stamey's is nationally known for its BBQ but this is by far the best NC has to offer.

When a BBQ restaurant has been open since 1930, you know you're in for a treat! Quick, friendly service from the waitress as she delivered the slow smoked pork. I'm a fan of the traditional western NC vinegar sauce, which is also used in their slaw. Not many places serve Brunswick stew, so I enjoyed it. I could have eaten my weight in hush puppies. Also got to meet Mr. Stamey, who was real friendly. Great experience!!

Congratulations to this storied NC barbecue operation for its founder's, C. Warner Stamey, induction into the first class of the North Carolina Bar-B-Que Hall Of Fame in early March. Also in the first group was Pete Jones of Skylight Inn, his grandson Sam Jones now operating both Skylight Inn and Sam Jones BBQ in Winterville, Wayne "Honey" Monk of Lexington BBQ, Charles Hursey of Hursey's BBQ in the Burlington area, Kent Bridges of Alston Bridge's BBQ in Shelby, and Steve and Gerri Grady of Grady's BBQ near Goldsboro! If you get a chance to research these folks and their businesses you will learn much of what went into making both NC BBQ - both Eastern and Lexington styles - the jewel it is!Congratulation to them all!

Well the food wasn't that tasteful. It could have used a lot more seasoning and the bbq sauce was watery not thick so that didn't help at all. The waitress is why I gave it a rating of three. She was very pleasant. I enjoyed the one on battleground way better. I will try this place again. The atmosphere was pleasant. Overall I must say I have to go back and try something different just to see . The people there were also pleasant. It was just the food I was disappointed in . Otherwise I would have left with a smile

Excellent BBQ. The kids are picky about BBQ and they LOVED it! The hush puppies were crispy outside and perfectly soft inside.

We were in Greensboro for a day trip (errands) and decided to try Stamey's. We had been hearing it mentioned for many many years, as my wife's grandmother used to stop in here when she came to "the big city" for occasional shopping. The physical setting is nice for a BBQ joint. Spacious dining rooms, cool in the summer heat. Service was attentive and pleasant. The food was about what I would expect from a typical barbecue restaurant, with a few quibbles. Being the fat boy that I am, I ordered a chopped pork platter (comes with one side, I chose collards) and also a chopped smoke chicken sandwich. I knew I did not need both, but when am I going to be back again? My wife chose a chopped pork sandwich with fries and an order of brunswick stew and hush puppies. The pork was a little dry in both cases, and was closer to minced than chopped. The two sauces provided (mild and spicy) did not carry much flavor but did help with the needed moisture, along with the slaw on the sandwich. (That slaw was perfect slaw for a barbecue sandwich.) The flavor of the meat was as good as I have found in a restaurant in recent memory, but no better. Not much smoke that I could detect, but decent pork flavor. The chicken sandwich was a pleasure, with a lot of smoke flavor and good texture. The buns for the sandwiches held up well to the meat and added sauce-- so many places use cheaper buns that disintegrate before you finish, so this is a detail to be noted about Stamey's. Quantities of meat on both sandwiches were generous. The stew was very tasty. This is one of my wife's litmus tests on a new BBQ place, and it passed. Lots of veggies, deep flavor in the broth. The abundant hush puppies seemed house made and had a good corn meal crust, could have benefited from a little butter. The fries were an afterthought I think, not anything to think about after eating one or two. The collards were acceptable (not outstanding) to me but my wife found them bitter and lacking any real flavor from simmering with pork or side meat. All in all, it was an okay lunch. I would stop in again if in the area.

Well this is supposedly the best of barbecue here in Greensboro North Carolina since I'm here for the first time. I ordered the chopped and a slice barbecue pork it was okay. No wow but decent. The New Brunswick stew was something I never heard of and it was ok. A little watery if not sour tasting and the way they make their coleslaw for the pork and chicken dinner was a bit on the vinegar side than creamy. I've never heard of blueberry cobbler which was decently good. I probably would order this if it had ice cream had I known. Service was actually pretty good Linda was the server and she was pretty attentive and informative. The ambience was busy since we came during lunch time and at a donald trump rally. Otherwise it's ok. I was curious why this was the best barbecue it's okay nothing spectacular but nothing poor.

Over the years, the food has been good and consistent. Clean spacious restaurant. Seat yourself, pay at front counter, attentive waits.. I am not a BBQ expert but I love their sandwiches and slaw and baked beans. The BBQ chicken is very very good. Good fries and hush puppies. They have altered the menu over the years with new things, e.g. collards.. The cobbler and ice cream are worth a visit. 2nd location on Battleground.
