Please ignore the puddles and tape. We are mid pandemic so playgrounds are closed, and this was taken 12 hours after a big storm

My grandkids had a great time at this park near their house in Matthews, NC the other day. It even has a green roof on one of the shelters.
It's so serene and tranquil just to sit by the pond and listen to nature do what it does best.

What a cute park! After spending some time in our hotel we wanted to take a nature walk of some sort that had a playground for the kids and this place came up. I'm glad that we decided to come as it was a great place with unique trails and a cute little playground. The kids enjoyed the trails and the cool wooden sculpture. It was nice to see people fishing and tons of people taking walks.

The town of Matthews doesn't have too many parks. I believe that Squirrel Lake is the largest one of their inventory with 36 acres of recreational space. There are two shelters, a permanent structure with restrooms, a pond that is complete with a fishing pier, playground, swing sets and even a 12 hole disc-gold course. There is also access to the Four Mile Creek Greenway from here. Some more parking would be good. I was at the "Shelter B" area and all but one space was used.[Review 11580 overall, 1360 of 2019.]

This is a lovely park. If you live in Thornblade or Ashley Creek it is an easy walk to the park and down to the playground and fishing lake. The playground is always clean. There are several play sets for varying ages. My son is younger (1 1/2) and he has more than enough to keep him busy including a few bucket swing seats, smaller slides, little mountain to climb and bouncing animals. There are several pavilions that have picnic tables. The fishing lake is nice and you can bring a fishing pole and try your luck. There is also a walking trail and restrooms that I have not used, but they are there and see many people using both. I removed 1 star because it can get crowded a d if you drive parking could be an issue due to limited parking spaces. All in all a great park that we frequently use and it is a wonderful extension of Thornblade or Ashley Creek neighborhoods.

Excellent local park for playgrounds and walks with families. When not social distancing it can be crowded and busy for the kids but the trails to the greenway are nice. The library has done some outdoor storytime in the summer. Hopefully that will continue this year. Parking lot is tiny but you can park on the gravel road leading inside.

Beautiful residential park in Matthews. Family and dog friendly. There was a pond and a lot of space for recreational outings. Many people in bikes, a few fishing in the pond, families sitting for a picnic and watching the geese walk by. There were swings and playgrounds and an area for disk golf. Highly recommend if you're looking for a stroll in the park, go out for a run, or walk the dog. Parking can be limited.

Wonderful place. No matter if it's summer or winter. You can bring your kids/pets/bicycles/or just enjoy a pleasant walking. There's a big playground, with clean restrooms (I'm writing this, because another similar places don't have). You can use the grills or just sit down in comfortables picnic areas. That are not only round the lake. You can fish as well. The only con is the entrance, has not been paved yet. We've been here like 4 times, never ended the trail. Hope next time!Ps: bring your drink!, and enjoy nature, little friends (animals) and the peaceful.
