The Spartanburg Art Museum is located in Downtown Spartanburg on the Chapman Cultural Center campus. There is free parking it the large lot. Admission is also free but donations are accepted.I didn't realize until I visited that the museum is located on land that was once the home to Cherokee Indians who were forced to leave in 1830 by the Indian Removal Act. Many ended up in Cherokee NC as they escaped by the Trail of Tears. I like that the museum is trying to reserve history. The museum wasn't large although I think I missed the permanent collection and just saw the current exhibition which was great. I enjoyed seeing the work differently looking at it from different angles. I wish I was given more guidance if more work was on the second floor. But I can check it out next time. The work presented does focus on the big issues like climate change; social justice; women's rights; and immigration. So if these types of issues are important to you, I think you will enjoy the art created by these artists.

Worth stopping by to check out some free exhibits. We happened to swing by when a new exhibit opened up. They provided snacks and beer & wine to celebrate the opening. It's not a huge museum so you can get in & get out pretty fast. We really liked the collection of Andy Warhols.

This place provides such a day or weekend activity for anyone and everyone! It is a small museum tucked inside the Chapman Cultural Center, but offers very unique and interesting rotating exhibitions. There is plenty of space for social distancing, and never a huge crowd. They have interactive activities for kids and adults alike. They also have an audio guide via QR code that you can scan with your phone. It's free entry, so you can come back for all of the exhibitions and however many times you want.
