Wine in a can

This was my first visit to Southern Strain and I was impressed! It's very dog friendly--they even sell dog treats at the bar. I'm not a beer drinker but they do have prosecco on tap and wine in a can (red, white, and rosé) for the non-beer drinkers like me. The vibe and decor are friendly and inviting. Lots of cool art on the walls too. It's located next to Harris Teeter so you can pick up groceries on your way home!

I visited a neighborhood brewery, Southern Strain, this week because they had live music! Local musicians treated us with their songs and talents. The space is not exactly cozy but the welcoming attitude of the staff most certainly was. The location is great. I'll come back for some live music again.

Popped in to try after getting my nails done! Service was super friendly and great beer selection, plus wine and misc for people who don't drink beer which is a nice touch! My only downside was they were closing at 4 for a private party but other than that I enjoyed the Kolsch and loved the vibe inside!

Small brewery but great beer! Open concept with tables and bar seating. We popped in for a drink, but they were closing early for a private party. We just had one beer and sat at the bar. Relaxing atmosphere and a good selection of beer to pick from.

Southern Strain is a laidback brewery in Plaza Midwood, located across the Harris Teeter. The brews are nice and it's an open and airy space. Staff are friendly and service matches their dispositions. There are no frills here - no kitchen, no snacks or bites (that I could locate), so I think they may have to add those or contract some food carts/trucks to contend with other breweries/brewpubs in the area.Oh, and they had live music and a number of young single guys with dogs. So, this might be the place you meet the love of your life. Wishing you brewtiful beginnings! Cheers!

Nice place - interesting beers. Brown ale was excellent. Coconut coffee stout was sweet and in-beer-like, but very good. Not a Bock fan, but the hazy spelt bock was better than necessary. Might even get it again. Bartender was friendly. Store was clean almost to the point of sterile, but good music pulled it back from the brink. Go there.

YES YES YES!!! Finally a Charlotte brewery that has a chill, coffeehouse ~vibe~. I drink a lot of beer, but if I could only drink one beer for the rest of my life it would be the Tropical Mornin' from Southern Strain!!! The coffee, the COCONUT, the robust flavor...2 die 4! And the classic, historic twist of old Concord textile mill g l a s s is tip tap top notch. Even though it is hot as a Tropical island in the CLT, the open concept allows for a breeze that feels like something only the Mornin' can deliver!P.S. my baby slept like a ROCK here so 10/10 family approved (comfy sofas, chairs, lounge circles and MORE) Come to Southern Strain to get your groove on :D

I love this brewery! They have a lot of different types of beers and the vibe is incredible. The bartenders are very nice and they even have live music and food trucks some days of the week! It is also pet and family friendly. Love this place, would 100% recommend :)

Great selection of beer (THANK YOU for having more than just IPAs), wonderful staff, primo location. Prices were averagely high. ($6 pint)My complaint is about the sound baffling, or lack thereof. Lots of hard surfaces which makes it a little hard to converse but then. BUT THEN a dude showed up to play some music and a 300 watt speaker in a 1200 sq ft space = 400x too loud. We couldn't leave fast enough and judging by the exodus, we were not alone. Long story short? Yes, I would definitely go back but I'd check to make sure there isn't "entertainment.". Read the room, you know?
