Good visit. The food was good and hot. Server came back constantly to check on us. Tucked in the cut on College St very close to the arena. The establishment was clean. No complaints. Definitely will come back in the future.

My nephew and I were on the prowl for a quick bite to eat uptown and settled on Soho Bistro. It's a small, quaint restaurant across the street from Mert's. My nephew ordered the pan-seared pork dumplings appetizer for us, a dish we've tried several times elsewhere. I wasn't a fan because of their super thick breading, but my nephew enjoyed them. After trying the dumplings, I didn't have the highest hopes for my entree. To my delight, the sesame shrimp was delicious. My nephew ordered the spicy curry shrimp, a dish he's had several times before at other establishments. He described it as a scorching-hot, mouth-numbing spicy, so I took a bite. The bite initially seemed innocent enough, but as the flavors unfolded, a gradual heat began to build and the discomfort grew, reaching a point where it became difficult to focus on anything else. Cold water didn't help with that level of spice. We joked about how someone must've inadvertently poured an unruly amount of spicy seasoning into the dish, but didn't start over. Although the spiciness level was too high for normal consumption, the flavors were amazing. I'm sure the dish is excellent when it's served "very spicy" vs. what we received. On another note, every person we encountered while dining was upbeat and personable from the time we entered the establishment until the time we left. Kudos to the entire staff for their service. .

First of all I'd like to say that I have eaten in a vest number of Chinese restaurants throughout my 68 years on this earth. With that being said, I would like to say this:I was greeted by the nicest people you could imagine; it was my first time there and I felt like family! My waitress seated me by the window so I could look outside.I was then given spotless utensils wrapped in a beautiful, freshly laundered green cloth napkin and a clean lunch menu. The waitress theasked me if I would like something to drink; I told her water would be fine and she promptly brought my water and then gave me a few minutes to look over the menu.

Food was good. We came for lunch so there were specials that ran between $9.25.$9.95 including choice of rice and a spring roll. I ordered the Kung Pao and the portion was pretty large, my recommendation to the restaurant is to cut down on the lunch portion size (saves you money) and add the drink to the lunch menu. If you like more "pow" with your King Pao then ask to have it made a little hotter. I forgot to ask so mine was very mild. Overall great food and great service.

Do yourself a favor when you are in Charlotte - go have lunch or dinner here. It is a fantastic gem tucked in the uptown area ( a little hard to find right now due to construction in the surrounding streets at the time of our visit) - entrance to restaurant is on N. College). We did street parking a block away and walked. They have a lunch menu that includes every favorite dish of mine so it made it hard to choose what to try. I love ahi tuna but many places don't truly season/sear it well so I feel that, for me, that's a great dish to try at a new place as a way of judging the food. Here, they do it right I had the ahi tuna salad appetizer. I also ordered house special fried rice - it was not only delicious, but the portion size was huge! Enough for at least two meals. We stopped in for lunch at 11:30 and we literally just beat their lunchtime rush, which filled nearly every table in the restaurant. But even with the lunchtime rush and crowd, this place is still pumping out delicious food efficiently so you can definitely get there for a noon lunch and be back at your desk in time for the afternoon work day! The service was fantastic every though they got busy with the lunch time crowd. Our drinks didn't run dry which is a big bonus star in my book. Give them a try - I bet you'll love it

After checking in to our hotel across the street we wandered over to Soho House for a bite to eat. I noticed they had a beef noodle soup which is one of my favorite things ever at the Mandarin Deli back home. There was also a Hong Kong Beef Noodle soup which apparently had a beef that was marinated but we were also told it was less tender. We both ordered the regular beef noodle soup - one with egg noodles and one with rice noodles and then an egg roll for each of us. While we waited we were brought a plate of won ton chips which neither of us had had in a long time. They were served with a sweet and sour sauce. Shortly after that our egg rolls came out, hot and crispy. The soup came out about 5 minutes later. It was not what I was expecting but it was good. The beef noodle soups I am used to are pretty simple - beef, thick noodles and an insanely flavorful broth. This had a good amount of beef, thin noodles and a lot of veggies - broccoli, carrot, snow peas, zucchini and green onion... might have had some sprouts too. All stuff we like so it hit the spot. The oddest part of the meal were the fortune cookies which are apparently sponsored by a Manscaping company. The "fortunes" are definitely geared toward men. I thought it was a weird choice. Where are my lucky numbers??

So, I learned that due to yesterday's storm, we now have a water outage in my communitiy and figured, since there will be no cooking tonight, I'd pick up dinner from one of my pre-Covid go-to spots. So, Soho... I get that it's late in the day, I get that these may be leftover from the lunch rush, and I get that this is a take out order. What I don't get is how you would think it is fine to serve stale, dry, flaviorless, barely edible food to your customers. End of day, you are not saving money, you are losing loyal customers to all the many new businesses popping up all over Uptown Charlotte and the surrounding area. Tsk...

Freshly made Chinese food, wide menu and very reasonable prices.WARNING: For those not familiar with Uptown Charlotte, it was very hard to find! Despite its Tryon St address the restaurant is actually on College St!
