Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina

The Food Bank is a great asset to the Charlotte, NC & surrounding areas! It is continually finding ways to network in the community to combat hunger. Typically NOT open to the general public. This is a place where organizations (i.e. Churches, Schools, nonprofits) can come and shop to feed underserved communities.

This is a great place to volunteer in Charlotte! I come here frequently to volunteer with work. Parking is a bit of a pain, but you can usually find a spot somewhere. The check in process also hasn't been great recently. I think they've been doing construction so you have to go in through the warehouse entrace. There wasn't anywhere to put costs or bags, but again, this was just the last time, so I would assume there will be a lobby area again soon. What you do will depend on the day. I've sorted and boxed food before. The last time we were in the back sorting through donations from CVS. I will say, the Cleveland food bank got redone and is very nice now. This one isn't nearly as nice as that, but I don't fault the food bank for that. I think it's a fun and interactive environment to volunteer in. I'll continue coming here to volunteer!

A great place to get some volunteering done. Serve your community where it needs it! Donate your time to local services that help drive your town to be better. Surround yourself with other great people that won't to help out. Second Harvest is a great food bank located near the NC Music Factory that anyone can go an volunteer to help. The building is very large and clean. The people who are on staff there are super helpful and very friendly. They all appreciate the time you put in to help out. Be ready to work hard for an hour and make new friends as your sort through various items! This is a great place for your work to do volunteering through as they can support a large group coming in to help. But even if you want to just go solo there is a spot waiting for you!

The Second Harvest Food Bank is such a great place to volunteer. The staff were all very welcoming and accommodating. When my group and I arrived we were thanked for coming in and given a brief history on the Food Bank and some quick stats on just how much this place helps out in the community.And then we were immediately put to work! Our jobs ranged from marking out UPC labels to cleaning up and packing juice boxes and toys. We were busy the entire time and it was just really nice to see the positive energy focused on giving back. Overall, it was a great day of service! I'm hoping that I'll get the opportunity to come here again and be of service for the community!

This is a great place to volunteer! They have shifts throughout the day and also at offsite locations throughout the school year. Depending on what your task is when you arrive you may be sorting or packing foods or marking items from Walmart out for distribution to the dozens of agencies this organization serves. They can accommodate groups, individuals, and youth but check the website for their hours and special restrictions. Closed toed shoes are a must! And dress in comfortable layers. You're inside a climate controlled warehouse, but it is a warehouse afterall! It's super easy to sign up for time slots on their website and they'll send you a reminder a few days before each shift. Parking is typically first come first serve so I would recommend carpooling whenever possible! On Saturday mornings the lot can be full and you'll be walking a few blocks.

Had the oppurtunity to actually volunteer through work here just recently. I was overall impressed with how smoothly run the operation was and our leader that helped orient us to our task was entertaining and a great instructor. Second Harvest gets tons of donations but they need volunteers to sort the items and get them ready for deployment. It's good to have such a great orginazation here in our community.
