If you are looking for a new family tradition, this is the place. Run by a local family for generations. They have plenty of beautiful trees to choose from. They also have a variety of styles to choose from. We picked a beautiful Leland Cypress. The same size, style and quality of tree at the big box store would have been almost double what we paid for it. The family that runs it is incredibly helpful with helping with questions and getting the tree ready for travel. They also have s'mores, hot chocolate and wreaths. Always a fun outing.

This was the perfect place for what we were looking for - under 2 hour drive from Chapin, SC and Spartanburg, SC so we could meet our BIL/SIL and nieces, easy to navigate for 3 kids under 6, beautiful views for Christmas card pics, additional activities for the kids.If you can't make it to the mountains but want to cut down your tree this is the place. We were a little disappointed that the only trees you could cut down were various types of cypress, but they have pre-cut Fraser Firs in from the NC mountains so we bought a pre-cut tree. They were expensive (all over $100, but it was worth it for the experience. They also sell stands, wreaths and garland. They also have the fire pit, s'mores (for sale), hayride and hot cocoa (for free) available on weekends. We went the Saturday after Thanksgiving (and the day of the SC/Clemson game) and it was very busy, but not annoyingly busy. All in all, a great day close to Rock Hill where we could go watch the gamecocks win together afterwards!

I wanted to update my review again after trying out another farm unsuccessfully Thanksgiving weekend. I noticed Penland was open on weekdays and we decided to give it a shot on Monday after Thanksgiving. It was busier than expected, but not crazy like opening weekend.I was fully prepared to have to get another type of tree this year since you really have to go the first day or two in order to get a Southern Scotch/Virginia Pine Tree. As I was walking up, I noticed a lone pine tree on the corner as you reach the start of the pine tree section. It was large and full and had a slight curve to the trunk that corrected itself, which is why it was probably overlooked. Thankfully so, as there were maybe 10 others left, but we got it! It is probably one of the fullest trees (definitely tallest) that we've had awhile. My excitement for real Christmas trees is back, very happy with our tree this year!!It's definitely been a learning experience for me as a customer. The crops have faced shortages recently and the seasons have ups and downs with availability, it's not like it was when we first started going in 2012. Definitely recommend at least checking out Penland if you want a Christmas tree to cut down. Pay attention to their social media for updates on status of availability, but go opening weekend if you can! Bring cash or check!PS - They are also dog friendly - on a leash. Also, they throw cut greenery on the ground from all tree types for free. I love being able to get some to decorate my mantle.

They used to be something great, now they are hungry just for money not memories and we are planning to buy plastic for half the price.

Amazing Tree Farm! Cutting down your own tree is very easy so if you do not have your own saw, they will provide. Their selection is awesome and the trees are beautiful. Lots to do with the family, extremely friendly staff, and you're supporting local. What else could you ask for? If you have not checked this place out you may want to add it to your Christmas tradition moving forward. Thank you!

My husband and I moved to Charlotte from the Midwest and are so happy we found Penland's. Our experience was very pleasant, upon parking we headed to the check-in desk and were provided with overall instructions, a map, bow saw, and wagon. We spent roughly an hour on the farm, including 20 minutes browsing the Treasure Barn. Our beautiful 10 foot Christmas tree was a bargain at $60.00

Such a nice experience. This was our first cut your own tree for Christmas. Parking was a bit small but we got a spot... whew. Who wants to walk super far with toddlers that are ready to see Christmas trees. There was a big sign in sign... thank goodness. I had no clue what to do. The girl at the desk was so nice and explained everything. I left the desk feeling much less confused. We took some family photos in front of the picture tree. Then off to hunt. We were directed to the trees that we were looking for. It was much harder then I thought to pick a tree. Finally after lots of walking we found the perfect trees. Once they were tagged and cut we put them on the side of the dirt road way. They were scooped right up by two nice men and put in the truck to bring up front. It was so quick, I was happy we didn't choose to carry our own. We sat by the fire and only waited like 10 minutes for our trees to be shaken and wrapped. We are super happy with our experience!

First time hubby and I cut our own Christmas tree. A friend recommended this place. A good hike from Lake Norman (45-60mins) but well worth the trip! Get there early to get good and hassle free parking and good pickings on a tree. They have several varieties and sizes to choose from, something to suit any budget. Oh and it's CASH ONLY. Great for the whole family, including your dog! Plenty of picture opportunity spots and props. There's a cute little Christmas shop and a snack hut. Wear comfortable shoes. They provide a hacksaw and a wagon to haul your tree back to get trimmed and wrapped ready to put on your car. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Have fun!
