Pa-Paw's BBQ

Nothing spectacular here. We were looking for a real BBQ "shack" and this place looked like it would fit the bill but we were wrong.Service was really good but the food left a lot to be desired.

We were looking for someplace to grab something to eat in the area before we drove back home. We initially had another place picked out but it was closed for some reason even though the hours on the door and Yelp said they should be open. We decided to check out Pa-Paw's BBQ as our second choice. We arrived about 4:30pm on a Saturday. My wife's initial reaction was that she did not want to go to diner and this felt like a diner. They told us we could sit where we liked and someone was behind us with menus. The main area where you enter has a counter and register on the left with the kitchen behind it. There are a few tables to the right and booths along a hallway to the right of that. All the booths appeared full so we kept walking toward the back of restaurant. There was another room after the booths with most tables occupied and another room after that where we found a table. It appears this place has had several additions over the years. We were provided menus and offered drinks. We perused the menu and my wife had to order the hush puppies. Since we moved to the Southeast they are something new she really likes and we always are on the lookout for them. She also ordered the chef salad with ranch dressing. I decided to try the double cheeseburger with bacon and onion rings. The hush puppies arrived first and my wife really enjoyed them. A short while later the rest of our food arrived and looked good. Although her salad was good, my wife is not fond of iceberg lettuce. Unfortunately, it was iceberg as she expected it would be. My burger was delicious. The onion rings were good but did not have a lot of flavor. They also had a much thicker breading coating than we are used to.Although we did not try their BBQ which is their namesake, the food hit the spot and the prices were very reasonable. However, the building and interior could really use some freshing up, time and attention. The carpet is worn out and the ceiling tiles have a lot of stains.

The lowdown: An old school, down home, southern feeling restaurant with tasty, inexpensive food, southern fresh sweet tea and hospitality! While driving back to Raleigh from touring Appalachian State with a couple hungry teenage boys I turned to my YELP community to find some recommendations in the Wilkesboro area. The boys loved the name so we knew we had at least try it out. Driving up to the building I became a little nervous. It most certainly is off the beaten path and looks as though it could use a face lift, but based on the amount of cars there, I knew they must be doing something right. We walked in, sat down and our waitress promptly came over. We asked her for recommendations which she gladly gave us. I had read that the wings were great here so of course that was the first thing that was ordered. I had a Buffalo chicken wrap w buffalo chips and hush puppies, my son had wings, my friend and her son opted for the BBQ Plates, fried okra and onion rings. our food was served quickly, everything was delicious. Even if my son doesn't go to Appalachian State, I will be returning back here to try other southern cooking in their menu!

Excellent food, service, and the ultimate blt. Dont skip on the tater babies and the hush puppies

Disgraceful: first the waitress left me on hold, then they messed up the hotdogs. They were supposed to be footlong but weren't. Then the cheeseburgers with LTM had no cheese, mayo or tomato and the waitress tried to blame me. Saying this is made to order so you get what you order. Burgers were dry and tasteless. They made us bring the food back to get a refund. Pretty shameful if you ask me

Pa-Paw's is my go to for BBQ! They have the best Barbecue in our town in my opinion! The staff was very friendly and helpful upon picking up my order! The restaurant is a cute little country feeling place I love it. They have a very welcoming environment as well! I will continue to eat here and highly recommend you try it out if you haven't yet!

The service is great and the food is good and it's reasonably priced! Pa paws is a small town restaurant and the wait staff treats you like friends!

The food was good down home cooking, the staff were helpful and friendly. Feels like a cozy family diner, nascar memorabilia and family pictures. Lots of seating, bigger on the inside than it looks.

Be wary with your tips the person. Who served you does not get to keep it I had a wonderful young lady who served me and was working while the rest seemed not to care about nothing but yelling at each other so yeah I tipped her good then another waitress named sky took it and the rest of her tips that she earned that day after she saw what I tipped her very unprofessional and if I was that young lady I would see if there is a way to report that as theft that's the only way I see it
