Oasis Restaurant

My dad had heard good things about this place at work, so we decided to try it today. As soon as you walk in, there's a bit of a haze in the air coming from smoke off the grill, so if you're sensitive to things like that, this might not be the best restaurant for you, but they have outdoor seating too. The food is quite cheap and is served quickly. We all got hot dogs. They are boiled, but we thought they tasted good, especially with the slaw. The only other thing to know is that they only take cash. They've been here for nearly 100 years though, so it's been a staple for downtown Monroe for many decades.

Since 1933 Oasis has been serving up their version of hot dogs, sammies, chips, and drink. Strictly cash and counter service, it's an icon smack dab in the 4-block social district commonly known as downtown Monroe.Today I ordered a dog with mustard and sauerkraut and Lori ordered a chicken salad sammie with a side of slaw. The good: the chicken salad was delicious and the hot dog bun was steamed. The just OK: dogs were boiled sitting in a big ol' pot of hot water. Nope. Grill 'em please. The slaw was bitter, unfortunately, too.It's hard to knock 90 years of success, so I'll I applaude all your efforts. However, just not my cup o' tea. Give 'em a whirl and judge for yourself.

Visiting from out of town, seems their hot dogs are quite famous but don't skip on the chicken wrap, it was really good!! Everyone was super friendly. 10 out of 10 highly recommend and will return next trip! Ambiance was casual and welcoming! My son kept asking for another hot dog!

Being a true-blue Southerner, I love their hot dogs! Yes, they boil them in water, however, a lot of restaurants do this. Their slaw and chili are wonderful - so much so, I could just order slaw and chili and be happy.

I love old school diner style restaurants. They usually have sneaky good food at lower costs. This place is no exception. The hot dogs are great! Don't forget your CASH! Because it's cash only. The prices are unbeatable for that reason though! My only negative was the chili. It was almost just chili flavored water with very minimal meat. I originally thought maybe they forgot to put chili on my hot dogs because it was just juice, so I asked for a small side so I could add more, and then I realized in the cup, it was the same watery juice. Maybe it was just that way the day I went? Because some of the pictures of the chili on yelp look much more appetizing that what I received. Other than that, no complaints.

My one experience at the Oasis was several years ago and it was so bad I never went back. The hotdog was nothing special. The barbecue.sandwich tasted like it came out of a can. Bag chips were good. The drink was overpriced and when I watched others walk up and get free refills I was surprised to be charged for a refill before they would refill it. The staff were very friendly to others who seemed to be regulars but treated me as if it was a bother to even take my order. . I let them know it was my first time there and I had heard so many great things and that after several years of living here I thought I would try it. I never went back.

This place is steeped in old school tradition. It's all about the steamed dogs at a very reasonable price. The people are great and you will feel at home. It's not my kind of dog, but I get it and love to see a historical place taking care of people so well.

Amazing staff and the hot dogs are the best in town... it's so sad that I don't even know if they sell anything else. Because I only go for the hot dogs....
