NC Donut Star

So, I'm lying on the couch early on a Saturday morning trying to determine whether to get more sleep or to go get donuts. Cut 30 minutes later and I was at NC Donut Star ordering a dozen of what looked to be delicious, and huge, donuts. There was one person working the counter and she did a good job describing the different selections, and let me tell you some of the donuts looked "out there." There was even a donut with what looked like Cinnamon Toast Crunch on top of it. Intriguing but maybe not something I would order.The donuts in the middle of the display window can be filled with any of a variety of creams, custards, and jellies. However I think they do themselves a disservice by limiting the ones that can be filled. The donuts on the sides of the display are "as is."I ended up getting two each of maple bacon, s'mores, lemon filled, raspberry filled, Bavarian cream, and a couple with a toasted coconut/caramel/chocolate topping. The donuts were fresh, tender, and delicious. I'll probably come back again.

Donuts are large and appearance is great! They fill them on demand and have 3 or 4 different filling containers. Ordered a half dozen and they were gone instantly; my family loved them! Reminded us of a family donut shop where I grew up.

Made fresh daily. Many varieties of doughnuts! About $40 for two dozen. They also have filling of your choice

They have THE BEST donuts ever! I have never had donuts that were as big and tasty. The place is always clean and they are super friendly. These donuts are worth every penny.

Best Donuts in the whole area I'm positive of this! If you are traveling through the area you have to go here. It might be a little ways off of the interstate but well worth it... AND they just opened a caribou coffee right next to them. Can't beat it!

Wonderful donuts! I'm a bit of a donut snob, and sad I haven't ventured out to visit NC Donut Star until now. Best glazed donut in the greater charlotte area, and HUGE filled to order donuts. Though it's a little trip, I'll be back for sure!

Delicious and large doughnuts including filled to order!They have two styles of donut, light and airy glazed (with many many types of frosting and toppings), and light and airy glazed shells to be filled with a variety of filling choices (the shells come in glazed and glazed with chocolate frosting). There are no cake doughnuts, either regular or chocolate (so no chocolate cake glazed, one of my go to's). This is my first time being in a doughnut shop which fills doughnuts to order; they have the following fillings (and maybe more): custard, vanilla cream, raspberry jelly, strawberry jelly, apple jam, lemon. The person at the counter was polite, not too talkative, but patient with a first timer to the shop. The shop was clean and tidy. I didn't look closely at the pricing before I ordered a dozen doughnuts, 6 mixed glazed and 6 mixed filled, which came out to be about $25, which I felt was quite high. It turns out that each category of doughnut has a different price. Also I'm not sure what happens when you mix less expensive and more expensive categories in a box of a dozen, so be sure to inquire and look at the menu on the wall if you're price sensitive. I'm attaching an old menu photo from Google for reference. These are not current prices. Overall I recommend giving them a try at least once.

The best donuts in the LKN area. They are consistently fresh and the staff is always friendly. Prices are also reasonable.

Good but not the best. We picked up some on Saturday morning. The main thing is the donuts are lack of the taste of freshness. Better than DD but can't beat the amish donuts fromFarmers market. Not much apple or apple taste in apple fritter, just sweetness.
