I don't know who enjoys this museum more- the kids or me! The first time we went there was a great exhibit on nocturnal animals ;however, the second time that was closed. I love the taxidermied animals and a great learning experience for kids for different terrains and the animals and plants that grown within them. There are tables to investigate more and many books and information! I have yet to be in the planetarium as they are limited in show times. My kids really enjoy the kids room too- kitchen area, puppets, blocks galore. A safe and fun space for kids of all ages (probably best for those under 6). Most employees very nice - one lady was getting on kids in kids area to clean up behind themselves in a strict manner. Cute gift shop for local gifts.I would love to see an upgrade to the outside of the building to be more welcoming and maybe something's done outside -- garden, bird houses, etc. For it to represent all of York County a few upgrades would be great!!

A musuem well-worth the trip... multiple trips, in fact! I came here on visit to the area with my set of teen twins (BG). We made the mistake of coming the first time during school hours. While we were on Spring Break, local schools were not and we weren't able to go into the planetarium or a couple of the side rooms, and our time in the hands-on room was limited. Why did we bother returning to this museum? Because the staff was so friendly and knowledgeable. On the first day, there happened to be a couple of the staff inventorying and assessing the dioramas. My kids asked the staff questions regarding the animals in question ("Are those male or female lions?" "Young males."), the accuracy of the dioramas ("You're right, it's unlikely that the lions would be hunting together."), and what education lead them to this career path ("A degree in Museum Studies."). All qustions were answered, politely and in a friendly but professional manner, and the kids never felt as though they were hindering the staff. When the other staff let us know that we wouldn't be able to access rooms until after 1, it was done in a way that made it clear that we were welcome to stay or come back later that day.We couldn't make it back that afternoon, but were able to come back the next afternoon. We visited the diorama rooms we missed, watched the planetarium show, and finished up with an hour or so in the hands-on room. The hands-on room is a room with specimens that the kids are allowed to respectfully, fully explore. They were allowed to go into the drawers and take out and look at various skulls and other bones, skins, claws, wings, insects, fossils, & rocks (though the last two they didn't look at this trip). They asked questions and the staff was both (tell me if you've heard this before) friendly and knowledgeable. This is a small museum and if you're looking for cheerful paint, interactive buttons to press, or computer terminals of canned information found in many other museums, you will be disappointed. What you will get is a unique, hands-on experience overseen by a friendly, professional, and knowledgeable staff. I recommend you consider going out of your way for this museum. I know we will.

Very cool museum. Lots of taxidermy animals for the kids to marvel at. Also has a planetarium and kids play area. They have tons of events throughout the year which makes a man Aniyah membership quite worth it. It's free on sundays which is nice as well. Very friendly and patient staff. Highly recommend.

Went here with my girlfriend. The price is $8 per adult. Don't let the building fool you. The place is bigger than it appears. Inside there are exhibits of all types of exotic animals. There is one room where you can touch stuffed animals. There are also cabinets filled with animal hides, specimens of different marine life, that you can touch and look at. The best part was a sloth that was larger than a human that was found in the 1700s by Thomas Jefferson. He found the bones and it was recreated. It was so awesome!Great place for kids also. Great place adults who are looking to do something different. It took roughly over an hour to read and see everything. There was a quilt exhibit that we did not visit.

For a small country museum, I was impressed. When I took my son, they had a dinosaur exhibit. Please do not think there were giant fossils or anything else you would expect from a museum in a big city, but it was cute for my 3 year old. They had 2 different dinosaur mazes. This is where you answered questions about dinosaurs to get through the maze successfully. They had 'dinosaur feet' the kids could put on and walk on a memory foam mattress to make tracks. There were lots of small dinosaur toys to play with as well. There is a room that is a permanent fixture that kids can play in. He really liked this room a lot! We spent an hour in there. There are also large taxidermy animals at one end, which were interesting for my little guy. We spend about 3 hours here. Since we have a membership at the Children's Museum, we also got in here for free.

This place is fantastic and my kids love it! The building doesn't look like much from the outside, but it really has a lot to offer inside, plus there are walking trails in the back. There is a planetarium, lots of taxidermy animals from all over the world, new exhibits throughout the year, a children's play room, and a gift shop. They always have fun and interactive things to do in the large room for the kids. Plus there are plenty of events they put on throughout the year. We bought a membership because we go so much now. I would highly recommend checking out this museum to anyone in the Rock Hill and surrounding areas.

When it comes to the Museum of York County there's not a place that's better for "killin' and stuffin' fans!DC, you can keep your Smithsonian. Paris, you can keep The Louvre. We got ourselves the best taxidermy collection available to the public! While there is some creative taxidermy at the museum, I'd like to see some more. Jackalopes, pandaroos, maybe even a deagle to spice things up.While the museum is a great resting place from rifle encounters, the museum has much more that stuffed animals to offer. The fossil collection and many hands-on specimens are available for you and your children to get a close look at and ask questions about. The planetarium offers an opportunity explore the universe while seated in a comfortable air-conditioned room. Come and learn about local history and the nature of the past and present. Come and learn a little about our local artist of fame...one of several, anyhow. The museum is geared a bit more towards the youngsters...but adults that still have a propensity for learning, will enjoy it just as much.To do: Marvel at the giant ground sloth...you know it's coolTo don't: Come if you see buses outside
