Metropolitan Ballroom

My wife had purchased some dance lessons for my son and his fiancée for their upcoming wedding in June, they both wanted to be able to have their first dance without embarrassing themselves :) We went along to participate and figured we could get a couple of lessons to help us as well. Since my son lives in Richmond VA they were going to have to space out some lessons over the next couple of months. For me and my wife, we decided to sign-up for a few for more lessons, since we live here in Charlotte, and the first experience was so good. We had taken some previous lessons when we lived in Florida that we quickly dropped.Our instructor Alyona was great at getting us comfortable over the first set of lessons we took as a couple. That was in early December, and now we are both taking couple lessons and single lessons, because we are having a lot of fun. Alyona and her partner Jake are great coaches for me and my wife, because as both professional dancers they know we are there to learn and just have fun, not looking to go pro. The facility is very clean and the entire staff is very friendly. I would recommend this dance studio to anyone who needs lessons or just wants to experience having some fun from a group of folks who love what they are doing.Five Stars for sure

What a beautiful space! This is a wonderful dance studio. The owners are very friendly and accommodating. They offer individual, couple and group dance lessons. The studio can also be rented for private events. The decor is modern, yet friendly and welcoming. When you enter the studio, you walk into a lobby which includes a reception area and bar (equipped with a large flat screen tv). There is a large dance area beside the lobby and smaller dance room in the back. The place is so charming that it makes me want to sign up for dance classes and plan a party!

This place is awesome. Great instructors with Darinka and Ranko and Clement and Tatiana and Kelly. The owners Jim and his wife are wonderful people. They really take the time and help get you in the right program for someone that has never danced. They have great party's too!!!

I went to their speakeasy New Year's Eve event and it was awful. For one it's way overpriced just to get in the door. The vip upgrade is a total joke because the "vip" room is shoved all the way in the back and was freezing cold. I spoke to one person who worked there and all he said was yeah everyone is complaining about that and I wish they paid me more to stand here. I spoke to the manager and he just shrugged me off. It's a cheap place just looking to make a buck. There was nowhere to sit aside from the ice cold vip room in the back closet basically. There were no shows either I kept waiting for that. And no live music just a dj playing beats way too loud. They advertise it as a speakeasy lounge. It's not. It's a night club for drinks. Very disappointing I had high expectations of being much more comfortable. We left early and took the loss of $160 spent on the event (plus the $13 martini that came in a plastic cup made poorly that filled about 1/4 of the already small glass) and decided to do something else with our evening. Especially to avoid the weirdo talking our ear off and trying to dance who wouldn't leave me alone and then insulted me when I wasn't having his "jokes".

The only thing good about Metropolitan Ballroom are instructors Stefano, Ranko and Darinka. Sadly, if you're not "liked" by one of their other students, you can be prohibited from dancing there. They depend so much on this student's financial resources, that if their income is threatened in any way they won't risk having you in the ballroom if it means they may lose that student. Just last month they were offering a special holiday package which I purchased, only to be told they wouldn't honor it. Hard to believe this is how they run their "business". Seems to me this may be something the BBB would want to know about.

Amazing instructors! Classes and private lessons are top notch and all levels are welcomed.

Excellent location, pricing, and view. This past weekend was my second time booking at the Metropolitan Ballroom and the experience is always pleasant. I definitely recommend this venue! Thanks again!
