Maya Restaurant

First off, the food is really good, and the service friendly and attentive... and they have real cane sugar coke in bottles (yes... it IS different!). The place seems like just a hole-in-the wall joint, with a few tables and a buffet table that runs the length of the restaurant, but seems unused. Not for a fancy night out, but good food in a simple spot.

This restaurant has recently opened a couple months ago, I suggest those who enjoy typical dishes from Honduras should come and give it a try. It is a very small location which makes it difficult to find tables to sit at on the weekends. Customer service here is exceptional! The ladies working here are the sweetest. My favorite dish is the pupusas de frijol y queso (a tortilla stuffed with bean and melted cheese). One of the complaints that I have is that the steak is a little too tough, making it hard to chew. From my understanding, this is the owner's first restaurant that they have ever owned so it still has work to do as far as the food quality, but nonetheless, it has the potential to become one of the top Latin restaurants to eat at in Statesville.

Excellent food, friendly service, family atmosphere. Worth the very short detour on a long distance drive north on 77. This is truly authentic cuisine, and place was full of locals. Flavors were great, we had ground beef dish, chicken dish and burrito. All served with tasty cabbage salad, rice and plantains. We shared some cheese pupusa also, yum. We will definitely come back next time through.

Stayed at the Courtyard Marriott across the street- definitely get takeout here. The service was friendly and fast, and the food was really good. I haven't had papusas in a long time, and they hit the spot. Bean and cheese- best of both worlds. Cabbage slaw was fresh and simple with a good amount of lime, and the carne asada was charred to perfection. The seating is open and limited but I haven't eaten inside a restaurant since the pandemic started. One small complaint I have is that the woman at the counter didn't always wear her mask... so while your food is being prepared you could wait outside... but I'm also in the middle of NC and I would never single this place out as being especially noncompliant. There have been plenty of rest stops and places we've been along the route where people aren't wearing masks. I just stay as distant as possible and only stop when I really need to.

Been wanting to try this place out So I finally did ! The restaurant is clean and organized which I love and the servers are very friendly . I ordered the grilled shrimp and it comes with yellow rice with veggies, refríes beans , plantains and a small salad .The food was very tasty pretty much what my father would make . All that cost $12.00 a great deal for all the food . I definitely come back again !

It seems like they've given up. Wanted to like it. Could have a good business from hotels. Travelers are looking for food. Don't give up.

Great service, friendly staff as well as customers and THE BEST DAMN FOOD YOU WILL FIND. Excellent prices for the volume and quality of food. I cannot say enough good things about this place.

Delicious! Stayed at Hampton Inn across the street and walked to Maya, just pleased to have a close restaurant that wasn't a chain. But it was such a nice surprise! The ladies that served us were sweet, the menu had helpful english translations, the place was tidy and the food was excellent! We had a creamy jalapeño shrimp dish, steak tacos, tilapia, and antojos catrachos. Each dish was fresh and very tasty.

Great food, friendly service and very clean. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you want authentic Latin food!
