This is a lovely park with two playgrounds, two covered shelters (that you can rent), two sets of bathrooms, generous parking lot, a small pond, and almost a mile of trails. You can see people of all ages there enjoying it: families with babies, small kids, and/or dogs, and lots of people exercising. We've been here a few times for playing and events, but we had rented a shelter for a birthday party today. There were plenty of empty garbage cans for us to help keep it clean. The best, for us on this cold day, was a great fireplace in the shelter. We brought our own wood and had a nice spot to toast marshmallows and make s'mores with (huge hit with young and old).Call the parks department ahead of time if you want to use a shelter. It's pretty safe here, but I would still suggest locking your cars, just in case.

Formerly Lakewood Park, this is now known as Martin Luther King Jr. Park. The centerpiece is a stocked lake with fishing permitted from Monday to Thursday. Three large picnic shelters, one of which has charcoal grills and a fireplace set up.The walking trails surround the lake, two playgrounds and a very pretty waterfront gazebo that would be quite lovely for photo opportunities, especially when the leaves are turning.Large open outdoor amphitheater.[Review 14553 overall, 51 of 2021, number 2789 in North Carolina.]
