I was so excited to find this little taco place on the side of the road. The more hidden and small the shop, the better the food.I had no problem finding this place. When I went inside, I could tell how small it was. There were maybe 3 tables, and could fit probably no more than 10 customers inside at a time. The menu was overwhelming. Even though I grew up being spoken to in Spanish, it wasn't enough to clarify all the menu items. Thankfully they have an English description underneath. I saw a paper sign with "We have birria tacos" written on it, and decided to get a couple. I ordered two birria tacos, and two chicken tacos. The total was $17!!! WHAT?!!! Apparently each birria taco was like $5.20. Frankly, I wouldn't have bought them had I known the price. I would up tipping and the total was a couple cents short of $20 for 4 tacos. When I got home, I was a bit disappointed having felt like I overpayed. I thought there was no way those tacos would be worth the price. I was so wrong! All 4 tacos were heaping with meat, onions and cilantro. The beef birria tacos were so insanely gigantic, like the size of two regular tacos. They both also came with a beef consomé which had a great flavor and was a bit on the thicker side. The meat was juicy and tender and flavorful. It still had a cheese pull, despite driving home for ~13 minutes. The chicken tacos paired well with the green sauce. I haven't tried the orange sauce yet because it looks too creamy for me. Overall I definitely would be back to purchase more from this shop. Five stars!

Amazing Mexican food! Inside is really hot so I suggest eating outside if it's nice out or taking the food to go. The place is small with only a few tables. I had the beef birria tacos and they were sooo good! The meat was very tender and flavorful. The consume was also good. They gave you a lot of meat in the tacos also! I also had the maduros and loved them. The sauces they came with were good. The orange sauce was super spicy! I will definitely come back and try other dishes!

3 things. 1 the place smelled like cleaning products. at least they clean. that's not a negative for me right now. 2 I saw a review that said they skip over customers. I ordered two tacos and sat down and some girls came in and ordered and their food was prepared before my two tacos. I ordered two of the same type of taco too... but idk maybe they were waiting for the meat to cook or something who knows.finally 3. the chorizo was different from other chorizo i've had. had a beefy flavor and was super finely ground and soft. could be a flavor thing. if you ever bought cacique brand chorizo and tried to fry it in a pan it was that type of chorizo. the sauces were good the tortillas were good and I don't think the service was bad necessarily. maybe my charlotte neighbors who look like me don't treat them too well when they come to shop i'm not sure. idk just be nice to these ppl when you come here I feel like my peers might not treat them great based on what I experienced.

I will start by saying that you should believe EVERYTHING you hear about Las Meras Tortas! It's THAT good! I would always see great reviews, hear that it's located in a gas station mart on Statesville/21 (it's actually next door to the mart) and that that line is always long/always a wait, but really good! Well, no lie was told! LOL!I went on a Friday evening and there was a line/wait to order and receive food. But as I said, it was worth it! Ordered the Al Pastor Burrito, Los Sopes and Tacos (chicken, beef and carnitas). They were OUTSTANDING! Las Meras Tortas knows exactly what they're doing and I hope they never go away!Staff was helpful in taking orders, calling them out and trying to get you in/out in a reasonable time. I believe it was about 20-30 minutes wait from ordering to getting out. But like I said, it was WELL worth it! If you're in the area and have a craving for Mexican, you MUST hit them up!

It's on the side of the gas station. Everyone speaks Spanish and only some speak will enough English. Keep that in mind if you tend to ask a lot of questions or want to make lots of modifications. The food is all delicious and the portions are very filling! Everything we got was fresh and comes out quickly.

A lot of times when I stay at my sisters house her and the baby usually wake up around 630. I usually wake up (if I am not already) at the same time. That usually leaves a grumpy and hungry Tommy. My sister always says you can get "gas station tacos" but I didn't know what she was talking about until one day she brought me.Las Meras Tortas is attached to a gas station which believe it or not is right near the Hampton Inn I would stay @ when visiting (before sis moved into a bigger house). So, one day, she finally let me get some. The cool thing about this place? They sell full menu starting at 7am, daily! Great for early birds and late night workers. There are a few seats in there, but during covid times they suggest take out only. I remember getting a burrito, and a few tacos. With the burrito, I got some plantains as the side.I was starving, so I started eating them on the way home. The tacos, were juicy, and decent even with the corn (usually not my first choice) tortillas. I even ordered chicarones, something I usually don't get, and they were juicy goodness. The burrito, was a decent size. I remember starting to get the meat sweats halfway through eating it. I think for the tacos and the burrito it was under $15, not a bad price for the amount of food I got. Glad to know they have solid early morning dining options in Huntersville other than your typical breakfast places!

This is the real deal, Real Mexican food none of that Tex Mex stuff. If your looking for things like flautas, sopes, haurachas and tacos know you can have them here.Flautas come 6-7 per order covered with creama, pickled jalapenos, cheese, lettuce and tomatoes.Sopes here are some of the lighter that I've had. You can actually cut them with plastic ware. Three come per order choose chicken, beef or a mix of both. There are lots of options for tacos. Thursday's is a new favorite some of them are just $1.00. Others $1.99 either way you won't leave breaking the bank. Last visit ordered two pork and two roasted pabalano peppers with cheese both were delicious and went back after doing laundry for two more of each!Food is solid and even ran into a couple who drives from Concord to get take out from here.

This place was recommended to me by The Food Blocker (see previous post). I have no idea why I listened, but I think it was because I saw this as an adventure. This is despite me not being a big fan of gas station restaurants. When I walked in, I ordered two soft tacos. The lady behind me looked at me like I was the whitest dude who had ever walked through those doors. She then started to speaking to me in Spanish. I pretended to understand, stuck up to fingers and said, "Dos tacos." She looked at me sideways again and I stood out of the way. Now ... I usually don't like when someone stands with their ass in my face, but on this day, I unintentionally did this to someone else. I was almost backed up against the wall (facing the counter) and had no idea there was a guy sitting in a chair behind me for a solid three minutes. He didn't move or anything. I was too close for him to move. What was he going to do? Stand up and say, "Disculpe Senor, su culo esta en mi cara!"I wouldn't have known what he was saying because I just used a translation service. Looking at those words, I probably would have thought he was saying, "You are disciplined, sir, despite the asses in here. You can ride in my carriage."Then I would have been really confused. I eventually de-ass-faced the man and got my order, which cost me, "Two Seventeen Ten."I got in the car, nervously opened the box, stared at it, took two bites, and said aloud, "No mas."True story. The End.

I was sitting in the parking lot at NorthLake Mall when I was searching Yelp for new ideas for dinner. Las Meras Tortas popped up and with such stellar reviews- I eagerly went with no hesitation. This place is adjacent to the gas station and is small. Seating is limited with very little standing room. There is a big menu with many options to choose from and also a small prepared hot food area. Placing my order my first time was a bit of a hassle because of the language barrier between myself and the cashier. But we managed to get it together and we waited for food. We could watch them prepare everything since the place is not so big. We went with the following: Elote - Mexican street corn and they do it right. Slathered in mayo with lots of cheese and chili. Pupusas - I went with chiccharones con queso (pork with cheese) and it was hands down some of the best I have had in Charlotte. Their cutrido was legit and on point. The entire meal was flavorful and insane. Burrito - I ordered a bistek (steak) burrito for my man and that sucker was heavy!!! I mean so heavy. He let me try it and as full as I was from the pupusas- I really wanted to eat his burrito too. It was again delicious. Cheese Quesadilla with fries: fries were standard but hot and fresh and the cheese quesadilla was large and very gooey with cheese. My son was in heaven. The only thing that went wrong with my first order was due to the language barrier. I wanted 2 orders of the pupusas (3each) but she rang me up two each. When I asked about it - they quickly fixed it and apologized and corrected my order. On my second visit - the cashier remembered me and made sure she got my order for pupusas right this time. I also decided to order from their prepared hot food items and for $10 I received one whole large fried tilapia with a side of rice and beans. Holy guacamole- you guys, this meal was BANGING! The fish was seasoned well but those refried beans - are made with love and it shows. These are not out of can and you can tell. I don't even like refried beans but they converted me. I would gladly eat theirs with any and every meal. The rice was good too! We also tried their pollo Gorditas. And no they don't resemble anything remotely close what you get at Taco Bell. These are the real deal and again - we were not disappointed. Also went with a bistek los huaraches and it was delicious. We had never ordered that before from any place so I can't compare it to anything but the flavors were good. They make all their mass which means they make all their tortillas and everything else they use. This low key hole in the wall is definitely a hidden gem. And will definitely be our go to for any Mexican food now.
