This is the authentic mom-and-pop, hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant you are looking for.My fiancée and I love this place. Mi Familia has to be one of the only restaurants in all of Statesville that we can go to and expect a consistent experience. I have yet to be disappointed when we come here -- except when they're closed or away on vacation! As a California kid who grew up loving street tacos, Mi Familia really brings that true home-cooked flavor to the table. I often order carne asada tacos with onion and cilantro (pretty standard, I know), and my fiancée always gets arroz con pollo -- and despite being a picky eater, I have yet to hear a complaint about her order.Surprisingly, I don't have any photos at the table here, but their overall presentation is good. The flavor is on point, all the time, every time. Staff is friendly and always welcoming; they always seem happy that you're there. This isn't fine-dining in any capacity, so don't expect to be waited on like table-service restaurants; seat yourself and someone will be with you with the quickness, though, and if you need something don't be shy to get up and ask at the counter -- they won't bite, I promise.I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for an eating experience that feels like you were invited to eat your favorite tío's cooking.

I've been coming here for years. Authentic and absolutely amazing!Miguel and his family do a wonderful job creating a family atmosphere and a welcoming environment. The food is as culturally rooted as you can imagine. If you're looking for tex-mex this isn't for you, if you want great flavor with minimal ingredients prepared with love then this is your spot!

Due to the Covid a lot of restaraunt dining rooms are not open but are for take out.Two days in a row have happily been eating on the trunk of the car, La familia is a nice find.Mask on walked inside and saw sopes on the board for nine dollars. At first was thinking the sopes here was a bit on the pricey side rhen the box was handed over. Looking inside was pleasantly surprised at three large chicken sopes with all the goodies. Goodies being lettuce, tomato, peppers, onions beans and sour cream with a side of green salsa. This is enough food for two people and after eating one was satisfied. While there found out they make tamales.Last time I wrote about tamales Yelp friends wiped the market/restaurant out and could rarely get my hands on them. Hopefully N.C. is a bit different than Atlanta? On Fridays and Saturdays three different kinds of tamales are made chicken (verde) pork (red sauce) and cheese. Really....Day two show up you know what I'm here for two chicken please!Taking the box outside and opened found two tamales wrapped in corn husks. Medium in size found every bite had moist chicken in it. Now Im not gonna lie these have a spicy kick to them keep your drink close.Liking them purchased a dozen to go.Getting home tried the pork, it was tender and surprised to find had no kick at all.The shocker, individual tamales are only $1.35 each a dozen $13.00 with tax included.Approximately 400 are made at a time that said if you have a large order call in advance. One man orders fourty at a time.Enjoy, please remember to leave me a few!

started working again but still have three nights of class left and no time to stop at the home for foods so here I am: dried, tired, and hungry hoping for something good to eat... turns out this was a great choice. shuffled in and got a sympathetic smile from the owner, he asked if I needed a menu and I declined asking for a carne asada quesadilla +rice +beans +iced water.About two minutes later out comes a dish of chips, salsa, and the biggest cup of water ever! finished it just after my food arrived and got another thank you. Rices were a pale orange, light, and fluffy and tasted like proper southern rice. Beans were simple and smooth like all good beans should be, sitting politely beside the sour cream topped pile o' salads. The ques' was toasted up nicely on both sides and meated up nicely, with a bit of herbs-n-spiced up cheese for good measure. Hot, moist and meaty is a winner in my world, should be in yourn too.

My husband and I visited La Familia one Sunday while in town during dinner, and really enjoyed our experience. This is a small place with a big heart. Everyone was so friendly, and the food is as authentic as it gets.To start, their salsa has a nice kick. Very few Mexican restaurants are willing to spice up their salsa, but La Familia does it just right. My hubby had the fish tacos, and I had a carnitas chimichanga. Both were served with rice and beans which were just yummy, and as authentic as it gets. The fish in the tacos was battered, fried, and very crispy. The tacos had cheese, lettuce, and avocados. My hubby loved them.My chimichanga was huge, full of high quality shredded pork and cheese, and topped with more queso. Cheese fans should love this, just like I did!Service was friendly and very efficient. We'll definitely be back if we're in the area again!

Great Mexican for either Dine In or To GoI've dined here several times over the past couple of years and it's always been a pleasure. The staff takes pride in their restaurant and are proud of their cusine and are eager to share their culinary heritage. I remember one time, having a rather detailed explanation of the various types of Mexican Cheese and the regions they come from and their pro and cons.I would have expected this more in an Italian Restaurant (not a national chain) but was very informative. My Mexican culinary horizons have expanded because of their effort.Yesterday was a bit different. Work has been chaotic and I was tempted to forgo lunch entirely when our able receptionist volunteered to bring me back something from La Familia. I jumped at the offer.I settled on two soft flour Beef Taco's along with beans and rice. Does not sound like much and it brings to mind a typical Taco Bell order. Not the case. The tacos were outstanding. The beef was full or flavor and the tacos were not falling apart with and excess of sour cream. A bit of heat but that came from the preparation of the beef and not Salsa added on at the end. They were great. In the future, I will continue to dine it because it does give me a chance to get some peace but at the same time, It's nice to know that I can get a good meal to go as well.
