Went here over a year ago and it is the greatest bbq establishment no only in NC but id say the east coast of the us! Everything was slide off the bone, finger squeeze, mouth watering bbq. A real establishment where we waited over 2 hours for. The staff will come around with drinks as well! Meant to take some pics

The experience leading up to the meal in itself is worth mentioning. Everyone knows there is a wait and is okay with it because of what's in store (for me, got in line at 8:45am and through the doors at noon). I met some great people in the queue and by meal time we all sat together and enjoyed a well deserved lunch! Pops will greet you at the door and knows all the history of John and Kelly and how they got to the point they're at of local bbq greatness; he's a proud pops. The brisket is the golden standard; best brisket I've had. Make sure you ask for it sliced fatty. Everything else pictured is delicious as well, mac and cheese was phenomenal, the only thing that was worth the try but not again was the Mexican corn. I can't wait to come back to try the other meats! Great bbq, and even greater company both staff and customers!

A 3.5 hour wait I would gladly do over again. My friend and I made a visit to John G's in early April of 2022 and got there around 9:45 for an 11 AM opening. We ended up waiting until about 1:15 before we got in the door. Was it a long wait? 100%. Was it worth it? Hell yes.Everything I tasted was so. dang. good. I ordered brisket, the porky brewster, mac and cheese, jalapeno cheese grits, and cowboy candy. I would have also ordered the beef rib, turkey, and cheerwine sausage but they were out by the time I got up there so if you want anything special, get there as early as you can! The guy at the register told me the first person in line was there at 8 AM so if you want to try everything you'll have to work for it. If you're gonna be there a few hours I'd recommend a chair and a cooler of your favorite drink. They keep some beer in coolers up towards the front for patrons to enjoy while they wait and some of the employees - including the owner - walk around and chat with people in line. A fun experience! Also - be on the lookout for the frequent popups they do in the South End area of Charlotte during the week!

I'm hesitant to review this place as I still consider it a hidden gem and want to keep it to myself. John G's is the best BBQ east of the Mississippi and is likely one of the top BBQ places in the country. I've grown up in North Carolina and lived in Kansas City for a combined 25 years, so when I tell you this BBQ is out of this world, I mean it. John G's does Texas style BBQ, and I get what they mean by "everything's bigger in Texas"It opens at 12, but people start camping out early. We got there at 10. Feel free to bring some lawn chairs and enjoy the free beer they have for those waiting in line. We spend over $100 on ribs, brisket, sausage, and sides, but it was well worth the experience. Only open on Saturdays and expect a wait for 3ish hours from camping out to ordering your food.

Best Texas style BBQ in North Carolina. The brisket is incredibly juicy, the Cheerwine sausage is delicious and the dinosaur bone (beef rib) is one of the best pieces of meat I have ever seen. Get there early as they will sell out fast.

Christ almighty the wait, they had one person cutting meat and 4 people waiting to scoop sides based on his speed. Ridiculous, yes it was good, but there is bbq of similar quality with 1/3 of the wait.

Absolutely the best food i've had!! The service and the atmosphere are amazing. John actually hung out and showed us the smoker. i have to say this a place you wanna try if you're ever near here. We drove almost an hour from Charlotte and well worth the drive and the wait. on a side note, you do wanna get there early to get in line.

FANTASTIC! This is the closest thing you will get to Texas BBQ. Plan on arriving around 8:30am to get a good spot in line. They will give out free beer while you are waiting in line. The brisket is to die for! I loved the tater tot casserole and desserts. You have to round your meal out for a sweet tea! Come hungry and ready to spend some money because you will want to buy everything! The owners are very nice and will come talk to everyone. You feel like part of the family. I cannot recommend enough.

This place is INSANE! Not just the pulled pork as brisket but the BRISKET BURGER is a must have along with the street corn, beans and BACON BURNT ENDS is also another must have . Line up early because they only stay open until they are sold out.
