Decent North Carolina barbecue with excellent hush puppies and Brunswick stewThey are a fried fish is good for a barbecue house

My husband and I have been coming here more it seems in the past few months. I've been getting the bbq sandwich with slaw and Buffalo chips with ranch. I really do enjoy it. Some days it ses really slow in the kitchen which is why it's a 4 and not 5.

I was in Elkin and wanted to try a restaurant I haven't been to in the past. I found John Boy's on Yelp. It's located just west of Elkin. With GPS it isn't difficult to find. They have a wide menu selection. Since seafood is in the name, I ordered the baby flounder. It came with 3 small filets and 2 sides. I ordered the fries and slaw. I had the option of a hush puppy or role. I ordered the hush puppy but received a role...but that was fine. I enjoyed the flounder and would be interested in trying some of the other seafood and their barbecue as well. The wait for my meal was less than 5 minutes. The restaurant isn't fancy but appeared to be clean. It has a basic diner look. The person working the counter was helpful and kind. Pricing was reasonable.

Classic 1960's style burger chain building both inside and out. Front counter and cook area are classic. It is a walkup order system with friendly counter people. I am surprised in the name being about Barbecue it appears they have one Barbecue product, pork sandwich or plate. A better description would be a small town seafood and sandwich shop. We tried the Big Barbecue sandwich with fries. The sandwiches were ready in about 5 minutes. However it took 25 minutes to get the French Fries. Not sure why. They were not busy at all when we arrived. Since this is the only product that I have tried at this store then I cannot give a full review of their foods. However, i would say that if they are going to use Barbecue in their name, then perhaps they should explore a more diverse array of Barbecue products and add a variety of flavors. I can say as i was leaving that the place was starting to fill up with I assume were local patrons. So while I cannot recommend, I cannot say you would have the same experience.

Excellent Food and Service. Prices were great for what we ordered I love that it has scripture posted and pictures of Jesus hanging up. Will eat there again if we're ever in Rlkin again.

The buffalo chip are my favorite thing on the menu with the ranch. And they are alway so nice.

Great tasting, cheap BBQ place. Hit on the way to VA from NC.The large BBQ sandwich was great, full of meat and coleslaw. I would have liked a little more BBQ sauce, but they have small to-go cups you can get.The chips were very unique and were a mix between a potato chip and a waffle fry. Crunchy outside but soft inside with a small spice.Would definitely recommend both

Very pleased. Great food and even better prices. Had the bbq plate and pork chop sandwich. The sandwich was amazing and plate was good also. Highly recommend the sweet potato also.

It was the first time I have eaten here in a long time. I want be back. It was the worst food ( if want to call it food) I have ever eaten. The service stinks. Table were sticky. Please go anywhere else but here.Fried Seafood and hamburger steak awful.
