The prices for a rack aren't listed. Instead it says market price. Today's was $35 for a full rack. Service was good. Food was so-so. The rack was so hard and dry that we couldn't finish it. It's previously been soft and fall of the bone. Today's seemed dry and maybe cooked the day before and reheated. Either way, I would be better off going to chilis or Applebees for a consistent rack and lower price. Had not been here in years and likely not to return any time soon. It's a shame because we really liked this place.

What a great food day - started with hot dogs at Zack's, then onto Hursey's, where we picked up some of their excellent broasted chicken and a pound of chopped barbecue, slaw, and rolls, for dinner.Little has changed here in the 64 years they've sold BBQ and Chicken at this location, still operated by the Hursey family, third generation by now I'd guess. Though there is a small amount of wood near the pit out front, there is no smoke pouring from the double stacks, and hasn't for a number of years now. According to their website, they still cook the pork over "hickory coals", but all is done at their wholesale location in the Elon community. The wholesale location is very large and they ship 1000s of pounds of pork everyday, and enough chili to cover 200,000 hot dogs - the chili amount is a bit ironic since no hot dog is offered at this location due to limited kitchen space! The pork Bar-B-Q served here is from shoulders, not whole hog as is the traditional Eastern NC BBQ method. This results in a more Lexington style approach, and the BBQ sauce and the slaw are closer to Eastern style, so this pork is a bit of a hybrid. I don't detect much smokiness now, and haven't for a number of years. In the final analysis this is pork BBQ that I really like, especially when matched with the excellent slaw, and their very nice hush puppies - take advantage of the Honey Butter for the puppies! The fried chicken is among the very best I've tasted at a restaurant. It is broasted, meaning it is first quickly pressure cooked in hot oil, and then shallow fried to provide the traditional crusty outside - resulting in tender, moist chicken with a very nice crunch! KFC uses a method much like this, with very similar results, in my opinion. If you ever get a chance to sample the pork and chicken here, I encourage you to do so!

I'm not sure where Mr. Hursey is now.... But I think it's time him and his family retires. This was the absolute WORST "bbq" I've ever had. Let me preface it but saying... I'm former military and I've had my fair share of MRE's. Those tasted better than whatever food this place makes. - The "bbq" looks and tastes like I just opened a can of dog food for my dog. But let's get this straight.. I wouldn't even feed this to my dog. - The chicken was fried and drier than my feet after a long summer on the beach. - The coleslaw on the sandwich looked and tasted like my toddler just threw up her morning snack. Let's just say.. if you're in the mood for food poisoning just stop on by here. Lastly.. it should be illegal to let them have a big a** billboard on the side of the highway luring people into this place. ***you've been warned***

Others reviews are true. BBQ meat is soggy. Green beans stems didn't get removed on some so they are tough to eat. Bbq sauce ph is too low or something, first bite burn my throat a little bit but I am good after some water and second bite. Baby back ribs looks kinda big so probably regular ribsWeird thing is that I didn't expect to serve fried chicken on my bbq dinner plate in a bbq restaurant. I thought chicken will be bbq and not fried. Skin is crispy though but chicken meat is bland. They have make enough sales to have 4-5 restaurants in town so locals like it, out of towner probably will be disappointed.

We had Hursey's cater our clubs luncheon and boy was it delicious. The bbq sandwich with coleslaw was yummy as was the grilled chicken sandwich. Even the beans were seasoned well and not over cooked. The desserts were great too, I be hard pressed to decide if I liked the peach cobbler or banana pudding. I had both today. Thanks for making our luncheon easy, reasonably priced and delicious.

Service was absolutely fantastic! The food was really good! I got the BBQ and it was super moist without needing any sauce and had a ton of flavor. I didn't feel it was super vinegary, but definitely still has some of that expected NC vinegar taste. Little bit of a drive for me to go back, but it's worth it.I did get the peach cobbler for dessert and it was okay.... It definitely was canned fruit, so don't expect fresh. I probably wouldn't get the dessert again, but the meat was damn good.

The lady in the drive through is very abrasive and matter of fact when you order it's borderline rude. Normally it would make me upset but the food was bangin' so I'm not even mad.
