We recently visited for the first time during the members night Candlelight tours. It's a one-weekend thing during the holidays showing what Christmas was like in York County in the late 1700s. The tour guide led us by lantern to various scenes throughout the property. The actors were great and I learned some things I didn't know. I would recommend for older kids, my four year-old was getting a little restless towards the end but she still enjoyed it. After, there were vendors, a brass band playing Christmas carols, food (free on members night), and activities like drip candles and snowflake ornaments for the kids. And of course we met Father Christmas who was really interactive with the kids. They do have a fairly large site. Bring your walking shoes because there are trails. Restrooms are in the Visitors center. During special events watch for a posted detour. We'd like to go back on a non-event day and explore. We're also York County Cultural Heritage Museum members which includes this site and has been a great value.

I love that places like this are still open. We cannot allow history to be canceled. I was only in town for a short time, my friend and I were looking for something to do. I love history I love museums, I love learning. We went on a Sunday and had to do the self-guided tour. We walked around to each of the buildings and read the description on the back of the map. We watched the video afterwards I'm glad I did it in reverse. It helps bring the whole thing together. The grounds are well-kept. I agree with another reviewer you can spend as little or as much time as you would like. The cost is minimal. The reason i'm only giving four stars is because of the short staff on Sunday no reenactments or people at each of the buildings to talk about them.

I was very excited to join my daughter's school for a field trip to Brattonsville. As seven and eight-year-olds in 90° weather I think they did a wonderful job paying attention and listening. The women that work there seem to not like children whatsoever. They were not patient with the kids and answered the children's questions sarcastically, almost to the point of making fun of their questions. It was a very strange interaction that I saw with the workers and the children for somewhere that children can go to learn about history. unfortunately, I was thoroughly disappointed.

Great place to go anytime really! We always really enjoy the reenactments they have of the war and the other events they have. There is much to see and plenty of places to walk around. I've taken many out-of-town visitors to Historic Brattonsville to walk around throughout the year and it's always a great stop to make. You can make this stop as short or long as you like. I love that they keep things maintained so well and the history you can learn by stopping by. Not only can you learn it, but feel it as well. The shop is always a nice stop while you're there when they're open. Definitely worth the stop if you're in the area. I've always felt welcome and greeted by the kind staff at Historic Brattonsville. I feel an appreciation for as well as the importance of history now more than ever.

Went here for the Harvest on the Homestead and had so much fun. We got there at like 2 (the hours were until 4) and the animals were already packing up to leave which was a bummer but we did get to see them briefly. Everyone was super friendly and everything (grounds, buildings, etc) are well maintained. We can't wait to go back for the Candlelight Christmas in December and the hog butchering in January!

What a great day! I had a day off and decided to educate myself a little. I went to Brattonsville and walked around. There is ALOT of ground to cover so bring walking shoes. Check out every building and take in every room. The history is incredible. I enjoyed walking the trails and seeing all types of things. Bring water too.

Perfect way to see a plantation. On Saturdays they have living Saturdays with people dressed up and in character. Very relaxing walking the grounds at your own pace. Great to see history and the old South presented this way. For price you can't beat it. We were visiting Charlotte and didn't want to make the long drive to Charleston and this place fit the bill. Only 35 miles a way!!!
